ADAIR COUNTY NEWS

Adair County News, September 23, 1903

Mr. John V. Goode, who left Adair county fifty-four years ago, and who returned a few months since, is now lying in a critical condition at Mr. Elzy Wethington's, on Casey Creek. He is now eighty-four years old. Since he left Adair county the most of his life has been spent in California. For forty years his whereabouts was not known and his friends and relatives supposed that he was dead.

[(This is not the John V. Goode, son of Edward & Louisa, who died in the spring of 1901.) "Fifty-four years ago" dates Mr. Goode's departure from the auld sod at about 1849, leaving one to wonder if he sojourned West for the California gold rush.]
