Hunter - Sams: The Hunter/Sams area of Bethlehem Cemetery. You can see the marker under the tree in the very corner of a concrete border with tall posts.
Hunter, James B. (Jan 1,1857 - Mar 3, 1929) and Sarah F. Hunter (Feb 10, 1863 - June 29, 1944). The stone is possibly a replacement, or could date from Sarah's death in 1944. There are no other markers inside the border. In this picture can be seen the marker for Henry Sam Sams (July 7, 1871 -- Feb 14, 1921) and Mary May Sams (Aug 22, 1881 -- Jan 3, 1962). [Editors Note: According to Henry's death certificate, he was born in Blandville, the son of Adoniram and Elizabeth (Watson) Sams.]  Submitted by Patti

Hunter, James Walter (Nov 18, 1891 Elkton, KY - Feb 28, 1988 ) and Buvetta Sams Hunter (June 29, 1914 - Sept 30, 1999).  [Editor's Note: J. Walter Hunter was the brother to Willliam Wesley Hunter, and son of James & Sarah. Other children were: Maggie b. ca 1887, Victor b. ca 1888, Gertrude b. ca 1890 and Ida or Laura b. ca 1893. Buvetta was a daughter of H.S. and May (Mary Mahala King) Sams, daughter of Thomas W. King. Buvetta's siblings were Ruby b. ca 1901, Eddie b. ca 1904, Ora b. ca 1907, Henry b. ca 1910, Cordie b. ca 1912 and Archie b. ca 1918.  Buvetta had a daughter, Ruby, in 1934.]   Submitted by Patti

Hunter, William Wesley (June 28, 1886 - Dec. 24, 1926) and Pearl Sams Hunter (Nov. 27, 1889 - Apr 8, 1959)  The parents of Lorena Hunter Melton. Ernie remembers that his grandmother wanted to be called "Mama Pearl."  Submitted by Patti

Melton, Lorena Mae Hunter - Ben Willliam Melton. Ben was from Mt. Vernon (Jefferson Co.) Illinois. He died Jan 3, 1994 and may be buried here (with no marker) or elsewhere. He isn't listed in Jefferson County. There was a funeral for Lorena in Ina, Illinois, in the morning, and another in Wickliffe in the afternoon. Submitted by Patti

Sams, Eurah Burnley (Jan 5, 1878 - Feb 5, 1910) "Tender Mother A Faithful Friend"  [Editor's Note: Eurah, daughter of Nat B. & Sallie Burnley of McCracken Co., was married to George L. Sams (Oct 10, 1868 Blandville - Jan 1, 1935 Ballard Co.), and mother to Burnley Lee Sams (Apr 21, 1902 Ballard Co. - Feb 25, 1939 Ballard Co.). George was a widower with children, Pearl b. ca 1890, Annie b. ca 1983, Maud b. ca 1896, and Myrtle b. ca 1898, when he married Eurah. Was Pearl and William Wesley's son G.L., also named George L?  In 1910, George L. Sams was living in Ballard Co., with children Maude, Myrtle and Burnley. George later married Annie or Amy?]  Submitted by Patti

Shepard, Maude Sams (May 11, 1896 - June 2, 1972)  Next to Pearl's grave is a marker for Maude. Likely Pearl's sister. The top of the stone is broken off the base and lying on the ground. Maude died just 2 weeks before Lorena. [No photo] Submitted by Patti
