ABNER, WAYNE, a resident of Middlesboro, Kentucky, formerly of Pineville, passed away Sunday September 18, 2005 at Pineville Community Hospital.  He was born on February 8, 1961 in Bell County Kentucky, the son of Thea Abner and Wanda Gibson Abner.  He was preceded in

other friends, relatives and loved ones.  Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday September 21, 2005 at the Creech Durham Funeral 
Homes Chapel with Rev. Arthur Jackson speaking.  Interment followed in the Calvin-Jordan Cemetery in Knox County Kentucky.  Pallbearers 
were family and friends.  Visitation was Tuesday from 3-10 pm at the Creech-Durham Funeral Chapel, Creech Durham Funeral Home

Adams, 93, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006, at Middlesboro Health Care Center.  She was born Sept. 14, 1912, in Middlesboro, and was the daughter of the late Vincent Jerome and Katherine Brown Adams. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Middlesboro, and was a member of Order of Eastern Star. She also a taught in the Middlesboro School System for 45 years, including serving as principal at Junction School.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, James “Buster” Adams and Leslie B. Adams; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Adams.  Survivors include her sister-in-law, Dorothy Adams, Middlesboro; nephews and nieces, Larry (Paula) Adams, Middlesboro, Tammy (Eugene) Grim, Middlesboro, James V. AKERS, REV. JAMES LUTHER passed away October 24, 1967, at the Pineville Community Hospital after a short illness.  Rev. Akers 
was a long-time resident of the Forks of Straight Creek, Kentucky. He was born April 7, 1890, in Claiborne County, Tennessee, the son of 
the late David Stewart Akers and Emma (Marcum) Akers. He moved to Kentucky in 1912 and began work with the L&N Railroad, which 
he retired from after 53 years, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Retired Railroaders. He was a Minister in the Church of God of 
Prophecy for 43 years, and served the Cary Church of God of Prophecy for many years until his death.  Luther was united in marriage to 
Mary Katherine "Katie" Dean of Lee County, Virginia. They were married July 3, 1909 in New Tazewell, Tennessee. He is survived by his 
wife, Katie; five sons: Rev. William N. Akers of Anniston, Alabama, Ralph Clayton Akers, Pineville, James Paul Akers, Kettle Island, 
Kentucky, Ray Everette Akers and Curtis Hoover Akers, both of Pineville; a daughter, Mable Frances (Akers) Kilgore of Pineville; four 
brothers: Edgar Akers, Jacksonville, Florida, Gordon D. Akers, Corbin, Kentucky, Joseph Arthur Akers of Pineville, and Marion Nellie 
Akers of Hamilton, Ohio; two sisters: Cora Alice (Akers) Baker, Tazewell, Tennessee and Laura May (Akers) Roy of Pathfork, Kentucky; 
thirteen grand-children and six great-grandchildren. Rev. Akers was preceded in death by two children: Helen Marie Akers in 1932 and

ALLEN, BLENDA ELAINE - 57, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at her home. She was born June 26, 1948 in Middlesboro, KY and graduated from Karns High School in 1966. She was a charter member of Fairview Baptist Church and retired from the Methodist Medical Center where she was a Laboratory Technologist for 25 years. Ms. Allen was very artistic and greatly enjoyed arts and crafts of all kinds. She was preceded in death by sister, Judy Allen in 2004.She is survived by her beloved parents, Ralph H. and Dorothy Burke Allen; her cherished and loving son, Anthony L. Allen; her devoted pets, Spock Allen and Indy Allen; sister, Charlene Allen, all of Knoxville; aunts, Hazel Skaggs, Clara Ingram and her husband Ronnie, and Hester Fisher; uncle, Gilbert Allen; niece, Susan Allen and extended family member, Jill Cordell. She is much loved by her family, who will miss her dearly and was very dedicated to her family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 17, 2005 at 7:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Milton Bolton and Dr. Glen Sullivan officiating. Veteran, he served in the Sicilian, Normandy, Rhineland and Northern France Campaigns and received several medals including the Purple Heart 
for being wounded in action, a European, African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with Bronze Service Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and a 
Distinguished Unit Badge. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen Bryant Allen, Pineville, KY; children Jerry W. Allen, Tazewell, TN ,

Allen, Ruth Mae -74, of Pineville, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Pineville Community Hospital.  She was born in Pineville on October 5, 1929 a daughter of the late Joe and Mary Ellen Brock Patterson.  She had worked as a nurse at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.  She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill Allen, children, Lorraine Allen Cope, Harve Rosswell and Tim Allen. Survivors include her children, Debbie Allen of Pineville, Virgie and Robert Hubbard of Cincinnati, Billy Allen of Cincinnati, Jerry and Marilyn Allen of Bird Branch, Steve and Lesa Allen of Williamsburg, Alex Lasley, Jr. of Middlesboro and James Lasley of Florida; twenty- three grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and brother, Robert Patterson of Kentucky and a host of other relatives and friends.  Services were Tuesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Allen,  Sidney -78, of Florence, KY, formerly of Pineville, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at the St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, KY. He was born November 17, 1926 at Kettle Island, KY to the late Harvey and Susie Fultz Allen. He was of the Baptist Faith and had been a printer for the Cincinnati Enquirer Newspaper. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and in Okinawa for which he received several metals and citations. He was a member of the International Typographical Union in Cincinnnati.  He was an avid gardener and kept up with and had great knowledge of current events. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Pauline Collins, Charles Allen, Fred Allen, Viola Stewart, Paul Allen, James Allen and Earl Allen.Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Wilma Bingham Allen, children, Cathy and Michael Asher of Lexington and Randall and Chelley Allen of Cincinnati, grandchildren, Austin and Josh Asher and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home. Burial was in the Bingham Cemetery at East Pineville. Military honors will be by American Legion Dewey Guy Post #14. Pallbearers were Tommy, Lee Brian, Steve, Eric, Mike and Tim Allen.Donations are suggested to the American Heart Association. ALLEN, WHEELER PHILLIP JR., 65 1/22/2002 - JONESVILLE, Va. - Wheeler Phillip Allen Jr., 65, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, 
at his home, after a long battle with a brain tumor. A resident of Lee County, Va., for most of his life, he was a retired master sergeant having 
served in the United States Army for 21 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and was awarded a Bronze Star and numerous other 
medals for his service. Preceding him in death were his parents, Wheeler P. Allen Sr. and Ressie Edwards Allen; one brother, Roy Byrd Allen; 
and two sisters, Flossie Mae Allen and Ollie Allen Elkins.  Survivors include his wife, Judy Ayers Allen, Jonesville; one son, Jerry Phillip "Butch"

a member of East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Edward, 
Bob Allison, and Roy Allison; five sisters, Bernice Sneed, Bea McKnight, Bonnie Metzler, Edith Burdge, and Edna Ward.  Survivors include 
one sister, Mrs. Dan (Marie) Poore, Middlesboro; special nephew, David G. Poore, Middlesboro; and a host of nieces, nephews;, and friends.  
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Boyd Gray presiding. Music will be provided

ARNETT, ASHER A, a prominent businessman and funeral director of  Pineville, died at the Pineville Community Hospital at 5 p.m. Friday 
February 9, 1973 after a short illness. He was born in Pineville, September 15, 1902, son of the late N. T. Arnett and Rose Campbell Arnett. 
He attended Tennessee Military Institute, Sweetwater, Tennessee, and was a graduate of Danville Military Institute, Danville, Virginia and 
Cincinnatti College of Embalming, Cincinnati, OH. He was associated with his father from 1921 until his father’s death in 1956 in the N. T. 
Arnett and Son Funeral Home. Since 1956 he has continued in business of the Arnett Funeral Home. He was a member of Bell Lodge 691, F 
and A. M. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rose B. Arnett, of Pineville, one sister, Miss Effie Arnett of Pineville. Funeral services will be conducted 
at 3 p.m. Sunday February 11 at the Arnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles F. Jones and the Rev. Sewell Woodward officiating.

Asher, Alex-63, died Wednesday evening, November 23, 1988 at the Mary Breckinridge Hospital following a sudden illness. He was born October 25, 1925, in Stoney Fork, a son of the late Wilk and Hettie Collett Asher.  He was a retired night watchman for the Sandy Fork Coal Company and a believe in the Holiness faith.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lois Asher.  Survivors include his wife, Minnie Hensley Asher, Beverly, Ky.; one daughter, Irene Asher, War Branch, Ky.; three sisters, Mable Asher, New Orleans, Louisiana, Bess Asher, Harlan and Mary Rose Asher, Harlan; three brothers, Arthur Asher, Joe Asher and Steve Asher, all of Harlan, Ky; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.  Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday  November 27, 1988 at the Phillips Fork Community Church, Beverly, with Rev. in Red Bird, the son of the late Joe and Dora Sizemore Asher. He was a member of the Binghamtown Baptist Church for 48 years where he served 
as boys Sunday school teacher, R.A. leader, trustee, and member of the choir. He also served in the bus ministry for 26 years.  In addition to his

Asher, Charles Duncan -74, a lifelong resident of Pineville, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2005 at the Fort Sanders Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born on October 6, 1930 in Pineville, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Asher, II and Effie Colson Asher. Duncan was a 1948 graduate of Pineville High School and was graduated from the University of KY College of Pharmacy in 1955. He served in the United States Navy, stationed at Mare Island at Vallejo, CA. Duncan was an active member of the First Christian Church where he served many years as a deacon and more recently as an elder. He began working at the Pineville Community Hospital in 1972 and helped to establish their inpatient pharmacy. After his retirement, he continued to work there on a part time basis until his health declined. He treasured the friendships he made there and considered his years working at the hospital with the pharmacy staff a special part of his life. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He treasured the time spent with his family and always put their needs above his own. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dr. David Colson Asher and Thomas Jefferson Asher, III. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Marsee Counides Asher, three children, Catherine A. Adams and husband, Doug, of Pineville; Susan A. Hall and husband, Mark of Atlanta, GA and Thomas Matthew Asher of Pineville; six grandchildren, Mary Catherine Adams, David Benjamin Adams, Annalee Adams, William Duncan Adams all of Pineville, Adam Wesley Hall and Andrew Asher Hall of Atlanta, GA; brother, Richard Potter of Brownsville, KY and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Asher, Charles H. -Sr., 91, died Thursday at the Forum at Brookside where he resided for the past ten years.  He was a native of Pineville, KY and a retired engineer after twenty-six years with American Standard. Mr. Asher was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where he formerly served as a Deacon and Elder.  He served over forty years on the Board of Directors of his family’s company, Asher Land and Mineral Limited, retiring in July 2004.He is survived by two daughters, Jane A. Coomer (Stephen) and Mary A. Yarmuth (William) a son Charles H. Asher, Jr. (Paula) six grandchildren, Jeffrey Rasco, Betsy Coomer, Michael Rasco, Christopher Coomer, Jonathon Asher and Jacob Yarmuth, for great grandchildren, Tawny Nutter, Jackson Rasco, Savannah Rasco and Stephanie Rasco, and one sister Jean Asher Pomeroy. The family would like to recognize the many friends and staff at the Forum. Funeral Services were at 10:00 am Monday October 11, 2004 at Pearson’s 149 Breckenridge Lane, with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park.  Visitation was held from 1-4 and 6-9 on Sunday.  Memorials may go to the Wayside Christian Mission or The Healing Place.

Asher, Dr. David Colson, a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Asher II, and the late Effie Catherine Colson Asher, died Sunday April 16, 1989 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky., after a  long illness.  He was a lifelong resident of Pineville, Ky. He graduated from Pineville High School in 1944.  He served in the U. s. Navy during World War II.  He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1948 and the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1953.  He Completed his internship and residence at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY.  He began his medical practice in Pineville in 1955.  There he served as Chief of Surgery at Pineville Community Hospital for 18 years and was Chief of Staff for eight years.  He was also Vice-President of Pineville Community Hospital Association for six years and served on the Board of Directors for 30 years.  He was elected to the Pineville City School Board for 16 years serving as Chairman for 12 years.  He was appointed to the State Board of Education by under Governor Wendell Ford, Julian Carroll and John Y. Brown, Jr. and the position of Vice-Chairman of the State Board of Education. His community involvement included 20 years on the Board of Directors for First State Bank of Pineville and Middlesboro. He was a deacon and an elder at the Fist Presbyterian Church of Pineville.  He was on the Mountain Laurel Festival board of Directors for many years. He was an International Senator with the Jaycees. He was a U.K. Fellow.  He played a key role in establishing the Pineville Boosters Club and other civic activities.  He was a very active member of the Democratic party at the state and local level.  He was elected Chairman of the Bell County Democratic Party for two four-year terms.  He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Smith Asher.  His children, David Michael Asher, Middlesboro, Georgianna Asher Shelby, Harrogate, Tenn., Sharon Asher Goodin, Middlesboro, and Byron Patrick Asher, Pineville.  Grandchildren, Sharon Elizabeth Shelby, Alyuson Michelle Asher, Adrienne Noelle Asher, Rebecca Ann Shelby, Amie Jo Goodin, Evan Thomas Goodin, Jonathan David Goodin.  Brothers are Thomas Asher, Campbellsville, Ky., Duncan Asher, Pineville, Ky., and Richard Potter, Brownsville, Ky.  Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 1989 at the First Presbyterian Church Pineville, with Rev. Frank Leeper and Dr. Dudley Pomeroy.  Burial followed in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery, Pineville.  The pallbearers who served were George Reese, III, Aubrey Bailey, Dr. Talmadge V. Hays, William Pickett, Dr. Shawn Fugate, Click Taylor, Don Mason, and Robert Berger.  The honorable pallbearers were Charlie Dean, Ralph McCracken, Senator Wendell Ford, Lt. Asher, Eldon, Sr. -  Mr. Eldon Asher, Sr., age 69 a resident of Pineville, Ky., passed away Saturday, October 26, 1985 at the Pineville Community Hospital.  He was born July 13, 1916 in Clay County, Ky., the son of the late Tom Asher and Polly Sizemore Asher. He was joined in Holy Matrimony at Redbird, Ky., July 13, 1940 to Miss Helen Brock, daughter of Floyd and Lucy Taylor Brock.  He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Southern Labor Union. He believed in the Baptist Faith.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother, Farmer Asher and one sister, Rella Asher. Asher, Esther G.--98, of Ferndale, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2002 at her sons home.  She was born in Hickory, NC, on June 9, 1903 a daughter of the late Alfred and Beulah Carter Boston.  She was a believer in the Baptist Faith and been a homemaker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Asher whom she married in 1923,  daughter Gayle Smith, sister Alice A. She was born October 23, 1922 in Pineville, KY, the daughter of Thomas Bruce Hail, Sr. and Verna Gilreath Hail. Mrs. Asher was a homemaker 
and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Women's Club and Bridge Club and had been active as a 
Campfire Girl Leader and with the Jaycettes.  She is survived by sons-Garrett Bruce Asher, Jr. and wife Pamela and Ronald Keith Asher; 
daughter-Tara Asher Crowe and husband Jerry, all of Oak Ridge; grandchildren and great-grandchildren-Ashley Van and her children Britney, 
Austin, Zachary and Natalie of Clinton; Blakely Bills and husband Brian and their children Ashtyn, Colby and Kennedy of  Knoxville; Angie 
Hensberry and husband Joseph of Williamston, SC, Ryan Asher of Oak Ridge; Jamie Crowe of Marietta, GA and Ashley Crowe of Oak Ridge.  
She is also survived by her former husband-Garrett Asher, Sr. of  Oak Ridge. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at 8 pm

Asher, Frank - 72, died Sunday May 7, 1989 in Dayton, Ohio.  He was born on January 2, 1917, a son of the late Ben and Lillie Roark Asher.  A retired Frigidaire Corporation employee, he was a believer in the Holiness faith.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Joe Asher, Robert Asher, Ben Asher, Jr., and Malleau Asher.  Survivors include four sisters, Marie Hensley, Calloway, Ky., Viola Campbell, Dillsboro, Ind., Verda Bond, Dayton, Ohio, and Chesney Knigga, Cincinnati, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews.  Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 1989 at the Pineville Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Asher. He was an apprentice optician at Walmart. He retired from the US Air Force after 21 years and had served in the Vietnam Conflict. He

ASHER, GARRETT, SR. - age 82, of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born November 16, 
1919 in Pineville, KY, the son of Carlo Britton Asher and Mary Slusher Asher. He graduated high school in Pineville and completed courses in 
accounting, real estate management, and business administration from the University of Kentucky. Mr. Asher was in U.S. Army from 1944-1945 
and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars & American Legion. He was involved in putting 
together the original Downtown Shopping Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Parkersburg, West Virginia and Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Asher was also 
past president and state director of the Oak Ridge Junior Chamber of Commerce; helped start the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce; past board 
member of first City Council of Oak Ridge; past president of Oak Ridge Industrial Development Board; past Vice President of the Tennessee 
Mortgage Bankers Association; founding member and past President of Anderson County (Oak Ridge) Board of REALTORS; Board member 
of Roane County Tax Equalization Board; past board member of the Roane-Anderson Counties Economic Council; past board member and 
Executive Committee Member of the Bank of Oak Ridge. He was a long time member of Oak Ridge Country Club; active member of Oak Ridge 
Rotary Club, Paul Harris Fellow, past president of Oak Ridge Jaycees; Board of Directors of the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival; served as Commodore of Fort Loudon Yacht Club. Mr. Asher was employed in 1941-1944-TVA Cost Accounting Department. 1945-1954-Assistant

Cumberland Development Co., Vice President of the Chamberlain Co. Started Cumberland Homes which built houses in Oak Hills and Wiltshire 
Estates in the West and Lake Hills in the East areas of Oak Ridge. Much of the land that Mr. Asher acquired included the extension of West Outer 
Drive west of Louisiana Avenue and its side streets, which was the development of Laurel Heights. He is survived by: Sons, Garrett Bruce Asher,

He was a graduate of Union College in Barbourville, KY where he played football for 3 years.  He began his career as a teacher, basketball and 
football coach in the Kentucky school system.  His career ended by retirement from Commonwealth Insurance Co. as Vice-President in Louisiana.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and China Asher; 2 sisters, Mossie Gabbard and Fanny Dickson; 5 brothers, Richard, Foster, 
Dillian, Gilbert and T.J. Asher; and step-son, Richard Parrott.  He is survived by wife, Geraldine Asher; son, Jim Asher of Louisville, KY; 
stepdaughter and husband Joy and Bill Rutledge; stepsons, David and Robert Rutledge and their wives Debbie and Robin Rutledge; step 
grandsons, Andrew and James Rutledge; step granddaughter and her husband Beth and Steve Amos; step daughter-in-law, Pat Parrott;

Asher, Harriet S. - Sycamore, St., Pineville died Friday, June 29 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Harlan County, Ky., a daughter of the late George Washington and Joannah Hall Sargent.  She had been a laboratory and X-Ray technician at the Pineville Community Hospital and attended the First Baptist Church, Pineville.  She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. George M. Asher.  Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1 at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Dr. Dudley T. of the late Alex and Alice Brummett Asher. He was a member of the Victory Missionary Baptist Church and was a self-employed carpenter.

Mrs,Mahala Asher,83 years old, died at the home of County Judge D.M. Bingham here Wednesday following an illness due to the infirmities

Asher, Orville, 33, died suddenly June 21, 1987 at the Red Bird Hospital, Beverly, Ky.  He was born March 31, 1954.  Son of the late 
Malcolm Asher and Fannie Bailey Asher at the Red Bird Hospital.  His faith was of the Primitive Baptist.  Survivors are one sister, Sarah Hobbs, 
Wallins, Ky.; six brothers, john Bailey, Page, Ky., Steve Asher, Beverly, Ky., Malcolm Asher, Jr., Roark, Ky., James Asher, Beverly, Ky.,  Earl 
Kenneth Le Asher, Beverly, Ky., and Odie Asher Carroll, Coldiron, Ky.  Services were at the Cow Fork Primitive Baptist Church at 1 p.m. 
Wednesday June 24, 1987, with Elder Albert Slusher, Elder Colson Knuckles and Rev. Chuck Jack presiding.  Burial was in the Little Creek

Asher, Oscar H.-63, died Monday, June 19, 1989, at For Sanders Regional Medical Center.  He was a veteran of World War II, an elder 
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Knoxville, Stake and a Stake missionary.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and 
Mattie (Martin) Asher; two sisters and one brother.  Survivors include his wife, Mildred Riggs Asher, Arjay; son and daughter-in-law, Darryl 
Herbert and Melissa Gail (Bargo) Asher, Tinsley, Ky.; daughter and sons-in law, Linda Louise (Asher) Brown, Arjay, Brenda Gail Asher, San 
Bernardino, Calif., Darlene Cleo Asher and Kenneth "Bo" Ellis, Pineville; one brother, Sam Ray Asher, Diff, Tenn.; one sister, Virginia Williamson, 
Duff, Tenn; two grandsons, Casey Patrick Brown, Arjay and Kenneth Ellis Jr., Pineville; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his 
passing. Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Valley Chapel.  Burial was in Campbell Memorial Gardens with Presidents Carl Walter, 
Lyn Chumley and Wayne England officiating.  Music was by Mavis Gibson and Lorna Williams. Dedication of the grave was by Elder Fred 
Roark. Pallbearers were Elder Marvin Mink, President Lynn Chumley, Elder Carl Shipley, Elder Donnie Riggs, Elder Charlie Riggs and Elder

ASHER, ROZELLA
, 83, of Pineville, sied on Thursday, March 13, 2003 at the Pineville Community Hospital. She was born at Straight Creek 
on August 16, 1919 daughter of the late Millard and Julia Collett Johnson. She was of the Pentecostal faith and had been a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Charles Rufus Sutton, Roy Todd and Tom Asher, brother Charlie Johnson and sister 
Edith Tackett.Survivors include her children, Jimmy and Linda Sue Todd, Sharon Ann and James Childers and Harold and Debbie Sutton, 
all of Pineville, grandchildren, Sanda Todd, Julie Sutton and Amy Bryant; great-grandchildren, Kevin Smith and Devin Smith and a host of 
other relatives and friends.  Services were Monday at the Trinity Full Gospel Worship Center with Rev. Charles Kersey and Rev. Jeff Kersey. 
Burial was in the Pinelawn Memorial Gardens. Family and friends served as pallbearers.  Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, is honored 
to serve the Asher Family.

Asher, Rufus “Bob White” -79, of Arjay, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at his home. He was born in Phillip’s 
Fork on February 20, 1925 the son of the late Alec and Alice Brummett Asher. He was a Pentecostal and had been a truck owner and operator. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Foister, Wilk and Harvey Asher and sister, Haley Asher. Survivors include his

ASHER, T. ED, ( Thomas Edward Asher) 80, of Pineville, Ky.. An institution in Bell County Politics passed away on (died) Wednesday, 
July 20, 1988 following a long illness. He was born December 8, 1907, to the late Hugh Howard and Ada Mae Thompson Asher and was 
the grandson of T. J. Asher, a pioneer in the coal and lumber operations in Bell County, Ky.. He graduated from Pineville High School and 
attended Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania and Union College in Barbourville, Ky., Asher served as magistrate of Bell County for 
twelve years and was elected to four terms as Bell County Jailer, a position he later resigned to accept an appointment by President Richard 
M. Nixon as a United States Marshal. He served in that position for five and a half years before retiring. For a number of years, Asher served 
a Bell County Republican Party Chairman. In 1986 he was inducted into the Fifth District Republican Hall of Fame. He was instrumental in the 
development of the Bell County 4-H Club and served as club secretary for forth years. He was also selected as “Man of the Year” by the 
Pineville Rotary Club. He was president of Asher Coal Company and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pineville for the past 
66 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Asher. Survivors include his wife, Lynnell Robinson 
Asher who he married in October 1934. Two Daughters; Joan Asher Cawood of Middlesboro, Ky, and Joyce Asher Beatty of Lexington, 
KY. a Sister; Ida Mae Morrow of Clinton, TN, Four Grandsons; Paul Connor Cawood, William Edward Cawood, Robert Asher Cawood, 
and William Edward Beatty and a Granddaughter; Leslie Joann Beatty. and a Great- Grand-Daughter; Sarah Elizabeth Cawood. Services 
were at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Frank Leeper, and Rev. Charles F. Jones and Rev. Ed Hannah. Music was by 
Mr. Annette Walden. Burial was in the Pineville Cemetery.  Pallbearers were; Sherman Hansford, Ernest Mike, J.C. Helton, Bill Rice, Marcellus

Asher, Tom, -Mr. Tom Asher, a resident of St. Creek, Bell County, Ky passed away Tuesday, April 7, 1992 at the Laurel Manor Health 
Care Center, New Tazewell, Tenn.  He was born October 16, 1902 in Clay County, Ky., the son of the late Buck Asher and Martha Mills 
Asher, At the time of his death he was 89 years old.  Left to mourn his passing re the following members of his family:  His wife, Mrs. Roszella 
Asher-St. Creek, Ky. also surviving is one son: Mr. Thomas L. Asher-Louvonia, Michigan; and one daughter: Mrs. Hazel Smith, Monroe, 
Michigan. Two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.  Services for Mr. Asher were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Durham 
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Neal. Burial followed in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Middlesboro, Ky. Pallbearers were 
friends of the family.  Durham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

AUSMUS, KATHRYN JANE, 75, HARROGATE, Tenn. — Kathryn Jane “K.J.” Ausmus, 75, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at her 
home. She was born July 3, 1926, in Middlesboro, a daughter of the late Joe Callison and Elizabeth Hurst Callison. She was a member of 
Faith Temple Church. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Nancy Holder, Middlesboro; and one grandson, Joe Holder 
Jr., Middlesboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Temple Church with the Rev. Matthew Robbins presiding. 
Music will be provided by Matthew and Mark Robbins. Burial will be in Middlesboro Cemetery, where the family will conduct a graveside 
service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Doug Heaton presiding. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Temple Church. Creech Funeral

AYERS, RACHEL KATHERINE, 92 HARROGATE, Tenn. — Rachel Katherine Ayers, 92, born March 16, 1911, passed away Saturday, 
June 14, 2003, at her home. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were her husband, Jake Ayers; and two 
children, Jerlene and Wheeler. She leaves to mourn her passing: son and daughter-in-law, Gillis and Bunie Ayers of Harrogate; daughters, 
Vina Hembree of Ewing, Va., Hazel Hammoc of Harrogate; daughter and son-in-law, Viola and Sillis Carmony of Hancock County, Tenn.; 
25 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Ayers of Hancock County, Tenn.; and a host of 
other relatives and friends.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Coffey Funeral Home, Tazewell Chapel, with Rev. 
Dennis Cosby and Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Music will be provided by the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church choir. Burial will be in Elydale 
Cemetery, Ewing, Va. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Coffey

AYERS, VIRGIE, 93 Ewing, Va. — Virgie Ayers, 93, passed away Saturday, October 4 2003 at the University of Tennessee Medical 
Center, Knoxville. She was the oldest member of the Gibson Station Primitive Baptist Church, and she loved quilting. Preceding her in 
death were her husband, Charlie Ayers; parents, Clark and Becky Hobbs Powell; and one son, Chester Ayers.  Survivors include her sons, 
Clayton Ayers of Monroe, Mich., Charles and Ann Ayers of Morristown, Tenn., and Lewis and Sheila Ayers of Harrogate, Tenn.; daughters, 
Jean “Jeanie” Mills, Vivian Black, Annie and Billy Cunningham, Verda Ayers and Lois Ayers all of Ewing, Va.; 18 grandchildren, 19 
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, and a host of friends and relatives.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. 
Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. George Walker and Elder Spurgeon Thompson officiating. Music will be provided by Earl
