I am looking for an obituary for William Eaves who died in Carroll County - at Lee's Branch, 1 Mar 1853.  He was born in Virginia.  We believe that his wife was Nancy Highlander.  They were married 28 Jan 1798 in Orange Co. Virginia.  We believe that they moved into Gallatin Co. about 1803 - 1805.  That part of Gallatin Co. became Carroll Co. in 1838. Verification is needed on wife's maiden name.... Also the name of his parents, if possible.  Since he was very old - for that time - about 95 - when he died, I'm hoping that there would be an obituary about him giving this information. Thanks, Lois Eaves, LoisEaves@att.net

I am trying to locate an obituary for Jefferson Davis Beard. He was born on Oct. 5th, 1861, and died May 30, 1943 in Carroll County.  He was buried May 31, 1943 in Ghent, Ky.  I am trying to trace my ancestors and it would be helpful if I had a list of family members. Any information would be very helpful. I have a copy of his death certificate, but it does not have a lot of information on it. Thanks, Nelleane Beard Nelleane@aol.com

I am research information on 3rd great grandfather and his family that were listed in the 1840 Federal Census to be living in Carroll county.  His name was Thomas Hickman and was married to Nancy Waller @ 1826-7.  Thomas was also listed in the 1830 Federal Census but in Gallatin County.  In 1840  the family had eight children ranging in age from 13 years to 6 mos.  Thomas Died in Mar of 1850 but in White County Indiana. Thanks for your efforts in this matter, Jay R. Hickman jrhick@gmail.com

Posted 6/13/2005 Surnames: Cobb

My ancestor, John Cobb, said he was born 1814 in Henry County, KY - as these counties changed boundaries during the early days, I am hoping there is someone in Carrolton County who may recognize the Cobb name. We know he had two sisters: Mary and Hester - and an unnamed brother.  He also did not give us the names of his parents. Thank you so much.  Margie Hinton in California marhinton@earthlink.net (sorry but you will receive a spam blocker message when you email me back, but I monitor these messages daily)

Posted 4/15/2005 Surnames: Turner & Bledsoe

I'm seeking information on the family of the Samuel Turner who married Mrs. Eliza Kemper Bledsoe in Owen County, KY on 26-Oct-1837.  Samuel Turner seems to appear out of nowhere in 1837 and has more or less vanished from the scene by 1846, but he shows up in tax and various court records in both Owen and Carroll Cos., in the years in between.  He also was around long enough to father a child (who became my great-great-
grandmother) on one of his step-daughters.  Be that as it may, my only hints about his family may be that he was involved in several legal ventures with several other Turners who may (or may not) have been his relatives.  These other men named Turner were as follows:  John V. Turner, Robert R. Turner, and Joseph B. Turner. Any and all help will be most welcome. Thanks, Jeff Duvall jeffery@iquest.net

Posted 2/27/2005 Surname: Butler

I found the gravesite of William Butler, I believe, behind the new LaGrange Baptist Church on Commerce Drive in LaGrange. There is just one grave behind the church and it is marked
Butler - Company F 9th Kentucky Calvary. I thought it was very interesting that it was one gravesite by itself in a family plot, but no other Butler's were buried there. It was a Civil War tombstone. Does anyone know about this gravesite in LaGrange, KY?? Thanks, Lawrence Doty LTDotyIV@aol.com
