 Ollie Bell McDonald

"Mrs. Ollie Bell McDonald, 68, died at the McDowell Hospital on Tuesday of this week following a heart attack.

"She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lonnie Hudson, Dunnville; Mrs. Earl Haggard, Liberty, and Mrs. Marion Richards, Cincinnati.

"Also surviving are seven grandchildren, a brother, Joe Hughes, Liberty; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Witt, Liberty and Mrs. Jay Moran, Dunnville.

"Funeral services will be at the Green River Valley church on Friday at 2:00. Revs. Oris Bailey and Ray Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

"The body will remain at the Gosser-McKinney Funeral Home until time for services."

"Mrs. Ollie McDonald, 57, died on May 23. She was the wife of Ernest Ray McDonald to whom she was married on May 29, 1927. She was the daughter of Welby and Rhoda Austin Lay.

"Services were held at the Dunnville Christian Church on May 26. Burial was at Thomastown Cemetery.

"She was the mother of Mrs. Pauline van Ron, Eugene McDonald, Norma Reed, Mrs. Phyllis Bundie, and Rollan McDonald; and grandmother of 15.

"She was a sister of Earl Lay, Liberty; Irene Cruzick, Lexington, Q.C. Lay, Lexington, Verlin and Ikey Lay, Edinburg, Ind.; and Ray Lay, Nicholasville.

"McKinney-Burton was in charge of arrangements."

 Ritty Ree McDonald

"Ritty Ree McDonald was born April 10, 1901. She departed this life January 2, 1963, making her 61 years, 9 months and 22 days old.

"She was the daughter of Addie and Verlissa Hatfield Hopper.

"On Sept. 10, 1922, she was united in marriage to Dewey McDonald; to this union one child was born.

"She is survived by her husband, Dewey McDonald, her daughter, Mrs. Russell Simpson, and one grandchild, Denis Lee, deceased, July 11, 1961, and the following brothers and sisters: Ruel and Alfred Hopper, Gilpin; Rufus, Lucy and Treva of Cincinnati; Jewel of Philo, Ill.; and Mae of Monticello, as well as a host of relatives and friends...

"Services were held on Jan. 4 at the Rich Hill Church of Christ by Tom Murphy. Interment was at the Poplar Hill Cemetery. Bearers were Cola, Roy, Hershel, Dallon and Dale McDonald, and Sherriell Abel. Miller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."

   "ROSA MAE McDONALD, 82

"Rosa Mae McDonald, Route 6, Liberty, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1986 at the Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford. She was 82 years old.

"Born in Texas on Dec. 24, 1903, she was the daughter of the late William P. and Willie Mae Bagley Milligan.

"She had formerly been a salesperson for Singer Brothers in Texas and was a member of the Athens Church of Christ. She was first married to Roscoe Hatter, who preceded her in death. She then married Dewey McDonald on Nov. 16, 1969. He survives.

"Other survivors include a daughter, Genevieve Swerdlin of Denton, Texas; two step-daughters, Maxine Simpson of Liberty and Stella Shreve of Mannsville; two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren.

"Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at Athens Church of Christ with Bro. Virgil T. Eubank officiating. Burial was in the Poplar Hill Cemetery.

"Pallbearers were John Lawhorn, Melvin Hatter, Russell Simpson, Roy McDonald, Garry McDonald and Sherrill Abel.

"McKinney-Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."

  "SADIE McDONALD, 80

"Sadie McDonald, Popplewell Street, Liberty, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1991 at Stanford House Nursing Home. She was 80 years old.

"Born in Casey County on Aug. 22, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Clara Frances Lawhorn Lanham.

"She was a former beautician and L.P.N. and a member of Trace Fork Separate Baptist Church. She was the widow of Vincie McDonald.

"Survivors include two brothers, John Lanham of Dunnville and Chester Lanham of Liberty; three sisters, Mary Lutes of Lexington, and Beulah Peevler and Lucy Lawhorn, both of Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

"Funeral services were Dec. 13 at Trace Fork Separate Baptist Church with the Rev. Clifford DeHart officiating. Burial was in the Trace Fork Cemetery.

"Pallbearers were Bobby Lutes, Anthony Bowmer, Gene and Mike Richardson, Ralph Dean and Alan Peevler.

"Bartle Funeral Home in Liberty was in charge of arrangements."

 "SETH McDONALD RITES THURSDAY AT RICH HILL

"Funeral services for Seth McDonald, 86, were held at the Rich Hill Church on Thursday of last week. Bro. Thomas Murphy officiated.

"Mr. McDonald died on March 20.

"He was born on August 12, 1875, the son of Emery and Frances Thomas McDonald.

"He was married to Louisa Elmore in January, 1897. She died on January 11, 1945. They became the parents of six children, four of whom survive.

"Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Flossie Abel; and three sons, George, Dewey and Clyde McDonald, all of Gilpin. There are 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

"Burial was at Poplar Hill Cemetery. Bearers were Russell Simpson, Sherril Abel, and Cols, Herschel, Gerald, and Ray McDonald.

"Miller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."

 "MRS. VINA ANN McDONALD RITES HELD AT THE HOME

"Funeral services for Mrs. Vina Ann McDonald, 71, were held at her home at Teddy on Saturday of last week. The Rev. Orlando Rodgers officiated.

"Mrs. McDonald died on Thursday of last week at her home of a heart condition. She had been ill for several years, and seriously ill for 15 weeks.

"She was the daughter of the late Lucy Thomas and W.H. Thomas of Dunnville, and was born on Dec. 18, 1888.

She was married to Add J. McDonald on July 25, 1907, who survives. They became the parents of two sons, Ernest Ray of Cincinnati and Willie Earl of Cain's Store.

"She is also survives by a half brother, John McDonald, Arygle; a half sister, Mrs. Myrtle Byrd, Dunnville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

"Burial was at the Thomastown Cemetery. Gosser-McKinney Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."

 Vincie E. McDonald

"Vincie E. McDonald, Route 2, Liberty, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1986 at his home. He was 81 years old.

"Born in Casey County on Nov. 24, 1904, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Merritt McDonald. He was a retired barber and a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington. He was also a member of Roman Eagle Lodge and Lexington Lodge No. 1 F&AM.

"Survivors include his wife Sadie Lanham McDonald.

"The funeral was Sept. 20 at Trace Fork Separate Baptist Church with Rev. Coy Puteet and Clifford Dehart officiating. Burial was in the Trace Fork Cemetery.

"Bartle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."

 "VIRGIL McDONALD DIES

"Virgil McDonald, 86, died on Monday of this week at the Waynesburg Rest Home, where he and his wife had been for around three years. She died there on July 25.

"They had no children. Their closest relatives are nieces and a nephew, Oral Thomas, Alice Thomas, and Mrs. Ella Mason.

"Services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Bartle Funeral Home with the Rev. Woodrow Damron officiating. Burial was at the Thomastown Cemetery."

  "WILLIAM ADDISON McDONALD, 82

"William Addison McDonald, Route 6, Liberty, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1993 at Russell County Hospital. He was 82 years old.

"Born in Casey County on Dec. 10, 1910, he was a son of the late Crit and Ollie Toms McDonald.

"He was a carpenter and had professed his faith to God as a young man and lived up to that faith.

"Survivors include his wife, Stella Sallee McDonald; three daughters, Mrs. Gene (Rebecca) Baldock of Yosemite, Mrs. Thurman (Angela) Anderson of Newtonsville, Ohio, and Mrs. Glennis (Elizabeth Ann) Murray of Lynchburg, Ohio; a brother Hollis McDonald of Elizabethtown; a sister, Ethel Dean Williams of Liberty; an aunt, Tiona Toms; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

"A sister, Juey Ann Coffey, preceded him in death.

"Funeral services will be today (Oct. 27) at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Leonard Streeval officiating. Burial will be in South Fork Cemetery."

 "W. T. McDONALD PASSES

"W. T. McDonald, born March 4, 1863 to W.C. and Myriah McDonald 5th of ten children died Nov. 23, 1949. He had been in failing health for several months since October 9 when he was strickened with a stroke. His wife whom he married in 1923, his daughter Dorothy, two step-daughters, Mrs. Lon Hudson and Mrs. Earl Haggard, seven step-grandchildren Delois, Buford, Lonnie Jean, Shirley, Linda and Diann Hudson, and Barbara D. Haggard, one brother, Napoleon McDonald of Illinois, two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Sutherland of Red Hill and Mrs. Cordia Godare of Indiana survive.

"The funeral service was held at Green River Valley Church at 10 o'clock and conducted by the Rev. O.E. Smith. Interment was in the Green River Valley Cemetery with the Bartle Funeral Home in charge.

"The pallbearers were Clem Murphy, Alfred Goode, Carl Davis, Edward Martin, Charles B. Lawhorn, and Charles Cain. The flower girls were his grandchildren and nieces, Barbara Haggard, Diann Hudson, Delois Hudson, Shirley Hudson, Mary Terry, Marie Tartar, Beulah Davis, Rachel Witt, Alma Ruberts, Pearl White, and Louise Spielburger."

 "ALICE PATRIA MEEKS RITES HELD SUNDAY

"Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Patria Meeks, 66, were held Sunday afternoon at the Thomas Ridge Christian Church, with the Rev. Bledsoe officiating. Death came on Saturday afternoon.

"She was born on September 15, 1898, the daughter of John Brock and Lena Walters Roberts.

"She was married to Gloid Meeks on October 30, 1917.

"She was the mother of Chester Meeks, Greenwood, Ind.; Mrs. Opal Roy, Liberty, Delmer Meeks, Cincinnati; Mrs. Marie Bernard, Dunnville; Mrs. Gladys Emerson and Argle Meeks, Greenwood, Ind.

"There are 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

"She was the sister of Leslie, Jason and Welby Roberts, Windsor; Stanley and Wade Roberts, Cincinnati; Mrs. Myrtle Patterson, Windsor; Mrs. Mary Burton, Cincinnati; and Mrs. Bertha Luttrell, Windsor.

"Burial was in the church cemetery. McKinney-Burton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."


"Casey County News" (Liberty, KY), Thursday, June 23, 1960

 "STROKE PROVES FATAL TO CHARLIE MEEKS ON 10TH

"Charlie Meeks, 80, died quickly following a stroke on June 10. He was the son of C.C. and Isabelle Meeks and was born Sept. 14, 1880.

"He was married to Miss Eva Walters of Dunnville on May 24, 1914. She survives.

"There are five surviving children: Wlodroe (sic), Avery, and Mrs. Shirley Ballinger, all of Cincinnati; and Travis at Dunnville. There are eight grandchildren.

"Also surviving are four brothers, Mike and Leslie, Cincinnati; and Gloid and Mulva Meeks of Dunnville; four sisters, Mrs. Dollie Meece, Mrs. Laura Thomas, Mrs. Flossie Walters and Mrs. Hester Russell.

"Funeral services were held at the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Orlando Rodgers officiating."

   "DELMER C. MEEKS, 67

"Delmer C. Meeks, Route 1, Dunnville, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1992 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was 67 years old.

"Born in Casey County on Oct. 20, 1924, he was a son of the late Gloid and Alice Roberts Meeks.

"He was a farmer and former employee of Tartar Gate Co. He was also a veteran of World War II.

"Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Lawson Meeks; two sons, Barry C. and Gary Lee Meeks, both at home; three daughters, Cynthia Preston and Alice Meeks, both of Russell Springs, and Rhonda Meeks of Lexington; a brother, Argle Meeks of Windsor; and three sisters, Opal Roy and Gladys Emerson, both of Windsor and Marie Bernard of Russell Springs.

"Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Meeks; and a sister, Beatrice Meeks.

"Funeral services were Sept. 21 at McKinney- Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Sherman Floyd and Bro. Wayne Keith officiating. Burial was in the Thomas Ridge Cemetery."

 "EVA MEEKS, 86

"Eva Meeks, Rt. 1, Dunnville, died April 10, 1982 at the Community Multa Care Center in Fairfield, Ohio. She was 86 years old.

"Mrs. Meeks was born in Casey County on Oct. 7, 1895 to William H. Walters and Cora Luttrell Walters, both deceased. She was married to Charlie Meeks, who also preceded her in death.

"Survivors include: three sons, Hollis, Woodrow and Avery Meeks, all of Cincinnati; one daughter, Shirley Ballinger of Cincinnati; one brother, Wade Walters of Dunnville; two sisters, Grace Sanders, Somerset, and Ada Thompson, Springfield, Ill.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

"One son, Travis, and two brothers, Lewis and Carlie Walters, preceded her in death.

"Funeral services were at the Oak Grove Baptist Church on April 13. Bro. Roger Popplewell officiated. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

"McKinney-Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."

 "GLOID MEEKS, 83

"Gloid Meeks, 83, Casey County, died Oct. 30 at McDowell Hospital in Danville.

"He was born in Casey County April 27, 1894, a son of Crit Meeks and the former Elizabeth McDonald, both deceased.

"He was married to the former Alice Patra Roberts on Oct. 30, 1917 and she preceded him in death on May 28, 1965.

"He was a retired farmer and veteran of World War I.

"Survivors include six children, Chester Meeks, Greenwood, Indiana, Opal Roy of Windsor, Delmer Meeks, Marie Bernard, Gladys Emerson and Argie Meeks, all of Dunnville; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Melvie of Russell Springs and Leslie of Cincinnati; three sisters, Laura Thomas of Dunnville, Flossie Walters and Hester Russell, both of Liberty.

"Funeral services were conducted November 1 at Thomas Ridge Christian Church with Rev. Chester Bottoms officiating.

"Burial was in Thomas Ridge Cemetery.

"McKinney-Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."

 "MULVIA MEEKS, 96

"Mulvia Meeks of Russell Springs died Monday, April 26, 1933 at his home. He was 96 years old.

"Born in Casey County on July 22, 1896, he was the son of the late Christopher and Isabelle McDonald Meeks.

"He was a farmer and a member of Patterson Chapel Church of Christ. He was the widower of Sophia Meeks and Thelma Childress Meeks.

"Survivors include two sons, Cecil Meeks of Blue Ash, Ohio and Hulon Meeks of Maderia, Ohio; four daughters, Fern Moran, Edna Chumbley, and Reva Vest, all of Blue Ash, Ohio and Mona Dause of Lexington; a sister, Hester Russell of Liberty; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.

"Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two sons, Attis and Archie Meeks; five brothers, Mike, Charlie, Gloid, Leslie and Louie; four sisters, Dolly Meece, Laura Thomas, Flossie Walters and Ethel Meeks; and a grandchild.

"Funeral services will be today (April 28) at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Alden Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Bertie Russell Cemetery."

  "THELMA MEEKS FUNERAL AT PATTERSON CHAPEL

"Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Meeks, 59, of Dunnville were held at the Patterson Chapel Church of Christ on Sunday of this week. Bro. Paul Johnson officiated.

"Death came to Mrs. Meeks at the Somerset Hospital on the 23rd following cancer and a long illness. She had been in the hospital for 49 days.

"She is survived by her husband, Mulvia Meeks; four daughters, Miss Mona Meeks at home; Mrs. Paul Moran, Mrs. Arnold Chumbley, and Mrs. Dallas Vest, Blue Ash, Ohio; and Hulon Meeks, Silverton, Ohio.

"Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Flonnie Luttrell, Phil; Mrs. Lily Norfleet, Windsor; and Mrs. Bessie Luttrell, Phil; and one brother, Dewey Childress, Dunnville.

"There are 12 surviving grandchildren.

"Interment was at the Birdie Cemetery in Casey County. Gosser-McKinney Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."


"Casey County News" (Liberty, KY), Thursday, November 12, 1969

   "TRAVIS MEEKS FOUND DEAD ON MONDAY

"Travis Meeks, 61, was found dead about 200 yards from his home on Thomas Ridge on Monday morning of this week. It is believed he died on Sunday afternoon.

"Meeks left the home with a shotgun and dog about 2:30 Sunday afternoon and went down a hollow behind the home. He walked here frequently.

"He was found Monday morning lying face down in a path as if asleep. It is believed he passed out following a hemorrhage of the lungs, lay down, and never recovered.

"Meeks was guarded by his dog all during his death. There were two indentations in the leaves near the body where the dog lay. He met the rescue party Monday morning.

"Meeks lived with his mother, Mrs. Eva Walters Meeks. He was not married.

"He may have been exposed to more action than any other serviceman from this county in World War II. He served under General George Patton on tanks. Three tanks were shot from under him. He was the only survivor in one tank when it was destroyed.

"Meeks spent several years in the Veteran's Hospital following his three years in the service. His war experiences were difficult to recover from.

"He was born on November 17, 1919, the son of Charles and Eva Walters Meeks. Mrs. Meeks survives.

"He was a brother of Hollis, Woodrow, and Avery Meeks, and Mrs. Shirley Bollinger, all Cincinnati.

"Services were held at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Roger Popplewell officiated. Burial was at the church cemetery.

"McKinney- Burton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."
