James Rooks, about 60 years of age, was reported to have been burned to death near his home near Pellyton, Casey county, the latter part of the week. A post-mortem examination, however, disclosed that he had a fractured or crushed skull, which was thought to have been inflicted by a hammer, according to reports. None of the family was at home at the time, except the wife, who with Eli Garrett are being held in default of bond on murder charges.
