The Crockett Tree (The symbol (&) is to be read "who married") William Crockett, Sr., married Lucinda Crockett and to this union were born the following children: James, Joe, Bob, John, Mary, and William, Jr. William Crockett, Jr., married Rebecca Anderson and to this union were born: John, well known character of the Rheber Section and around Liberty. It is to him that we are indebted for the following history. The famous David Crockett who was born about 1786, elected to Congress from Tennessee in 1816, and killed while defending the Alamo in the Texan was, was a second cousin to John's father, who knew him well. Wm., Jr., erected the first schoolhouse in the precinct around Rheber and it was known as the Crockett School. The seats were of the split log type and the windows had no glass. Other children besides John were Jim, Dock, Bob, Granville, Cindy, Bettie, Sarah, Molly, and Abigail. Dock has two children, Odie, and Flonta. bob has Clell and Ray. Granville has Bill and Lula. Abigail married Theo. Walden. The Crockett Trail takes its name from this family.
