THE DAWSON FAMILY (Note: The symbol (&) is to be read "who married.") Benjamin Dawson, Sr., first sheriff of Casey County, and wife had the following children: Sallie & a Naines; Nancy & a Stephens; Polly & a Drake; Betsey Ann & a Powell; Millie & a Sweeney (father to Joel); John, William, George, and Benjamin, Jr. Benjamin, Jr., married Millie Coffey and to this union were born the following: Jesse Butler; Sarah & a Kent; Margaret Jane & a McGee; Susan Catherine & a Brumfield; Mary Francis & a Stevens; Mary Elizabeth & a Levigne; John, Cordelia, Joseph, Henry Clay, and Benjamin were unmarried. Millie, twin sister to Ben, married a Spainhouser. Christopher Riffe, whose wife was named Jane had a son named William Tate Dawson. He married Matilda Brown. To this union were born: Clarence, Riffe, Fred, Madge, and Jennie. (The last mentioned came to Liberty on September 5, 1938, searching for information concerning the Dawson and Coffey families. She had a record of the Dawson family tree from a reunion held in Missouri. It is to her that I am indebted for this tree.)
