The Christopher Riffe Family Tree (Note: The symbol (&) is to be read "who married.") About 1781, Christopher Riffe, who was of German parentage, left Maryland and went to Rockingham County, Virginia, where he met and married Agnes Spears, daughter of George Spears. To this union were born John, Christopher, Jr., Annie, Sallie, Mary, George. Agnes died when George was a baby, about 1802. On May 9, 1806, he married Elizabeth Coffey, sister to Colonel Jesse Coffey and Osborn. To this union were born Peter Bim, and Lehannah (mentioned in the book "Celests" by Peter Bim). Of the above children, John and Christopher went to Missouri; Annie & Thomas Blain; Sallie & a Coffey; Mary & a Watson; George & Bettie Anderson, and to this union were born John, George C., Crit, Clay, Jennie, Mary, Emily, Susan, Martha, and Jesse. Peter Bim & Julianna Watkins February 2, 1832, had the following children: George, John Betsey, Lee Anna, Rose Anna, Florence and Doxie. Lehannah, full sister to Peter Bim & Jesse Portman, uncle to Duff Portman (living in 1938). The children of George Riffe and Bettie Anderson married as follows: Mary & a Jenkins; Emily & a Hunn, Susan & a Carpenter; Martha & a Carpenter, and later a Tucker. Bettie, a daughter by the first husband, married a Rutherford. The children by the last husband were Tom, Bob, George, and a girl, Lucy & a Routt. Jesse, son of George & Mary Dodd. To this union were born John, Crit, James P. McKee, William, and Abigail (who married T.L. Carpenter, a daughter, Mary, married Chas. F. Montgomery, son of Brother Joe). No record can be found of the marriage of Abram Riffe who lived in the Dunnville and Riffe Creek section we know from early records. (Note: At this time, 1938, we are fortunate in contacting eighty-five year old Bettie Riffe Blain, who had a bright, active mind and knows the Riffe history like a book. She married J.M. Rutherford sone sixty-five years ago. She is a granddaughter of Annie Riffe, daughter of Christopher). Annie Riffe married Thomas Blain. To this union was born George Blain & Phoebe Catherine Anderson, daughter of Walter Anderson. To this union was born Bettie Riffe Blain & J.M. Rutherford sixty uears ago and moved to near Franklin, Kentucky, in Simpson County. This lady, Bettie Riffe Blain Rutherford, is now eighty-five years of age (1938), has an active mind and knows her family history like a book. The author is indebted to her for quite a bit of the Riffe History through her grandson, Jim Billy McInteer.
