Dr. George Doyle Is Taken By Death

Obituary from The Winchester Sun-Thursday March 23, 1967

 

Dr. George Fergison Doyle, 88, retired ophthalmologist and otolaryngologist was found dead at 4 PM Wednesday at his home, 134 S. Maple St.

Deputy Clark County Corner Dennis Combs placed the time of death at 6 AM Wednesday and attributed death to a heart attack

Dr. Doyle was a native of Pennsylvania, a Baptist, and was a Captain in the United States Medical Corps during World War I.

He was a graduate of Union College in Philadelphia and practiced 36 years in Winchester, retiring in 1951. Prior to coming here he practiced in Philadelphia.

He was an assistant instructor in histology and embryology at Jefferson Medical College and was a member of the American Medical Association , the Kentucky State Medical Association, former president of the Clark County Medical Society and an emeritus member of the Jefferson County Medical Society.

He was a former secretary of the Clark County Historical Society and was a member of the Kentucky Historical Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and Omega Upsilon Phi fraternity. He was a compiler of information about Revolutionary soldiers in Clark and Clark County marriage bonds, and had been the associate editor of the Kentucky Folk Lore and Poetry magazine.

Survivors are two sons, Roger Drake Doyle, Cincinnati, and Dr. George F. Doyle Jr., Louisville; six grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Friday in the Lexington Cemetery by the Rev. Edwin Perry.

Pallbearers will be Henley Moore McCready, William Ogden, Dr. Robert E. Strode, Stewart McCullum, Russell Drake, Jack Metcalf Sr., Andrew Lane, and Jimmy Vaughn.

The body is at the Edgington Funeral Home where friends may after 5 pm today.

Donations may be made to the Winchester Public Library in lieu of flowers.
