Researching my wife's family - ONEY, SCAGGS (or SKAGGS),HIGHLAND, &
LESTER. Collateral lines would include ALLEN, ELSWICK, FRALEY, WHITT,etc.
Her ggf John Henry ONEY,MD ,son of Squire & Hannah SCAGGS ONEY, was
born in Tazewell Co,VA,29 Jan 1833,& apparently moved with his mother
& other family members after the death of his father ab 1838. He left
home in his teens & went to school in Louisville & Michigan,
served as a contract doctor in the Union Army & settled in
Nashville,TN, married Mary Malinda ELLIOTT in 1867 & died in 1915.
Would like to known what happened to family members who stayed in
Elliott,Carter,Floyd & other KY counties.

Am researching the Charles Manford CRAWFORD, SR family. I have a good
bit on Crawfords, but am stuck at James Harvey CRAWFORD. Am also

I am researching family of Wesley Cox who was married to Francis Lambert.
Wesley Cox family descended from the Cock family of Virginia. John Cock
to Andrew Cock to John Cock to Tobias Cock. Tobias and his wife Francis
Stigall moved to Kentucky around 1838 to Morgan County and name changes
over the years from Cock to Cocks to Cox. Tobias' son was Maston Cox.
Maston married Louisa Conn, lived mainly in Elliott County and they had
Wesley. Wesley Cox married Francis Lambert, the daughter of Eli Lambert.
They lived mainly in Elliott and Rowan countiesTheir daughter Mary
Elizabeth was my grandmother. She married Lee Baldridge

Looking for William McAfee Bradley who came from Virginia c. late 18th
century. Had two sons, George and Isaac. Would like to know date of his
coming to Floyd and from what locality in Virginia. He came from Ireland

Louis H. FOREST, born Oct 1852, VA or WV; m. abt. 1884 Gemima (Jemima),
born Jul 1848.
Children:
Lafayette FOREST, born Sep 1885, Elliott Co., KY; m. Bessie Leona PORTER.
Mary J. FOREST, born Mar 1887, KY.
Martha FOREST, born Sep 1888, KY.
Cyntha F. FOREST, born Jul 1890, KY.
Louis (Lewis) FOREST appears in the Elliott Co. Census for 1900 and 1910.
He does not appear in 1920, however, J. H. FOREST, 68; Germinia FOREST,
72; and Lewis (grandson), 11 appear in the 1920 census for Rowan Co.
I am assisting an the 80-year old daughter of Lafayette FOREST and Bessie
PORTER in finding out about her family. She has been told that Lafayette
FOREST died in a typhoid epidemic sometime between 1917 and 1923. She and
three of her siblings were placed in an orphanage until her mother
remarried in 1923 and reclaimed her children. She has also been told that
her twin brother, Louis H., went to live with Louis and Gemima FOREST
rather than the orphanage. No death certificate has been found for
Lafayette FOREST, nor does he appear in the census as an adult in KY, OH,
VA or WV, although it is said he never left the Elliott Co. area.
Questions:
Is the Lewis FOREST in Rowan Co.1920 the Louis FOREST listed above?
Did Lafayette FOREST marry in Elliott Co.?
Do Lewis or Lafayette FOREST appear on any tax records?
Are there any records of a typhoid epidemic in this time frame that could
help us find death records on Lafayette?
Any help would be appreciated!

The Elliott Co. Vital Statistics page lists marriage of
Owen W. ADKINS and Mary E. RIDDLE on 9 Feb 1877. Does
anyone know who Mary's parents were, or at least her
age and birthplace? I am researching all descendants
of Lewis RIDDLE (ca 1778 Va - 1850's) of Bath Co., KY,
most of whom lived in Bath, Morgan or Rowan Counties,
but I cannot place the Mary E. RIDDLE above.

Joseph SLUSHER and Margaret MAUK on 19 Dec 1878. Does
anyone know who Joseph's parents were, or at least his
age and birthplace? I have a GGG Uncle, Joseph SLUSHER Jr.
(11 Mar 1860 Morgan Co. KY - 18 May 1933 Rowan Co. KY),
s/o Joseph H. SLUSHER and Nancy Ann WADE, who lived in
the Elliottville (Hoggtown) area,
and who would be of marrying age in 1878, but the only two wives
I have listed for him are Mindy MAZE/MAYS, m. ca 1884,
and Sarah E. JENNINGS, m. 30 Aug 1895, both in Rowan Co.
Is this the same Joseph SLUSHER, or a different one?

and Mary Susan RIDDLE, was married 4 times: (1) to Jesse H. CORNETT
on 18 Nov 1880 in Rowan Co. (all 10 children are from this marriage),
(2) to Rev. W. Jerry FLETCHER (ca 1860-1939, s/o Alex & Jane FLETCHER
of Carter Co.) on 8 May 1934 in Rowan Co., (3) to
Granville MAYS (1864-1946, s/o Hent & Poppie MAYS of Breathitt Co) on
18 Dec 1939, and (4) to Andrew J. SPARKS
(ca 1874-after 1959, s/o Joe MAUK & Edith SPARKS of Elliott Co.)
around 1954/1955, when she was in her 90's. Husbands 2 to 4 were all
widowers when she married them. I would like to find out who
their previous wives were, and also find the date and place for
the marriage of Andrew SPARKS and Nancy Jane PETTIT CORNETT FLETCHER
MAYS.
