Ollie Melvin

 

Ollie Franklin Melvin, 85, of Bedford, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at his residence after a long illness.  He was born in Trimble County to the late Daniel Franklin Melvin and Edna Garret Melvin.  He was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church and a Master Mason.

 

He is survived by two children: Elizabeth Lynn Melvin Shelley and Franklin DeMint Melvin, both of Bedford; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Edna Mae Jones Melvin; two sisters: Lena Garrett and Margaret Mahoney and two brothers: George and Kenneth Melvin.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 4th at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford.  Rev. DeBelle officiated.  Interment was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

Charlie Miracle

 

Charlie Miracle, 45, of Campbellsburg, died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the University of Louisville Hospital.  He was a 1982 graduate of Henry County high School, a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in LaGrange and worked as a chemical operator at Arkema.

 

He is survived by his wife: Chandra Powell Miracle, Campbellsburg; one daughter: Abigail Kelley Miracle, Campbellsburg; one son: Cody Allen Miracle, Campbellsburg; parents: Wintford and Anna Miracle, Campbellsburg; two brothers: Damian Miracle, Campbellsburg and Steve Miracle, Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 29th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Mike Huff, Pastor of the Providence Baptist Church and Father Mark Spalding of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Mary Ann Montano

 

Mary Ann Fowler Montano, 81, wife of John Montano, Campbellsburg, died Monday, February 1, 2010.  She was born in Adamsburg, SC, October 9, 1928, the daughter of the late William Fowler and Evelyn Adams Fowler.  She was a member of the Philippi Baptist Church for 71 years and was a homemaker.  Mrs. Montano was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

 

Surviving in addition to her husband of 53 years are a daughter: Milene McCall and husband, Charles, Carrollton; one son: Kerry Fowler and wife, Melinda of Norwood, NC; five grandchildren: Asilene and John McCall, Desiree, Keffer and Patrick Fowler and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kerri Anne.

 

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5th at the Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale.

Geneva Roberts Oliver

 

Geneva Roberts Oliver, 83, of Bedford, died Monday, December 28, 2009.  Daughter of the late Willie and Lucille Welch Roberts, Geneva worked at General Electric for many years and was a member of the Cemetery Hill Church.

 

She is survived by a granddaughter: Sherri Cole and husband, Steve, Bedford; a grandson: Josh Oliver, Louisville; three sisters: Marjory Wainscott and husband, Raymond, Bedford, Thelma Shaw, Eminence and Anna Mae Wood, Tennessee; one brother: William C. Roberts, Sarasota, Fl; and three great-grandchildren: Seth Hahn, Haley Hahn and Austin Oliver.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Kenneth Oliver and three sons: Kenneth Oliver, Jr., Gary Oliver and Leslie Oliver.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 31st at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Shawn Golden, Pastor of the Campbellsburg Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Carla Payton

 

Carla Jean “Bunny” Payton, 51, of  Shelbyville, died Monday, November 2, 2009.  She was formerly of Smithfield and was a member of the Eminence Baptist Church.  She graduated from the Shelbyville High School and was a member of the Shelbyville Women of the Moose Lodge.

 

She is survived by her parents: Billy and Norma (Hawkins) Doyle, Smithfield; one daughter: Jessica Mendosa, Louisville; one son: Billy Joe Payton, Shelbyville; two sisters: Lisa Greenwell and Julie Doyle, both of Smithfield; one brother: Ricky Doyle, Pendleton and two grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5th at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home.  Rev. Michael Duncan, Pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated.  Burial was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Leland Payton


Leland Payton, 70, of Pleasureville, died Thursday, November 12, 2009, at U of L Hospital.  Son of the late Hubert and Pauline Chisholm Payton, he was a U. S. Army Veteran, a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and a member of the New Castle Masonic Lodge.  He served as the Henry County Sheriff and Chief of Police and later retired as Henry County Circuit Court Clerk serving many years.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mary K. Crawford Payton, Pleasureville; two sons: Leland Craig Payton and wife, Marylene, Eminence, and Chad Thomas Payton, Port Royal; one step-daughter: Donna Chilton and husband, Kelley, Simpsonville; two sisters: Doris Ann Gregory, Frankfort and Donna Payton, Port Royal; four brothers: Hubert T. “Tap” Payton and Maurice “Squeak” Payton, both of Frankfort, Royse Payton and Glenn Thomas Payton, both of Port Royal; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 15th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Carl Rucker of Campbellsburg officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

James Powell

 

James Homer Powell, 75, of Sulphur, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at his residence after a long illness.  He was the son of the late Joseph H. Powell and Lucy B. Carr Powell.

 

He is survived by three sons: James S. Powell and wife, Delcie, Bruce C. and James P. Powell, all of Sulphur; two brothers: Allen Powell, Louisville and Earl Powell, Sulphur.  He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ernest Thomas and Joseph H. Powell.

 

A memorial service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27th at Ransdell Funeral Home in Campbellsburg.  Rev. Nick Coleman officiated.

Betty Purvis

 

Betty Jean Purvis, 77, of Eminence, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange.  Daughter of the late William and Nevada Thurman Dutton, she worked at General Electric

As an assembler and was a member of the Eminence United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Diane L. Clark and husband, Ronnie, Eminence and Nancy J. Rainey, Louisville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer “Waff” Purvis.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 22nd at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Michael Duncan, pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.
