William M. Cravens

Mr. William M. Cravens passed away on March 27, 1924 in St. Louis, MO. His death was caused by heart failure. About four years ago Mr. Cravens had inflammatory rheumatism which left his heart in a weakened condition. For about a year he had been more or less under the care of a physician but was never confined to his bed.

On the 26th of March he called at his sons office and spent some time there and made several other calls on friends in other places. He was feeling tired that afternoon but did not want to be assisted home.

He retired immediately after his evening meal. It was always his custom to arise very early in the morning and to read his paper until breakfast. On this morning as he did not get up, Mrs. Cravens went to his room, lowered his window and closed the door. She noticed that he looked very pale, but as he was in a comfortable position she left him so he could rest. When breakfast was announced he was called three times but his voice was already silent and he had gone on to his just reward.

Mr. Cravens was born in the year 1841 near Lexington and moved to Henry County at the close of the Civil War. He was the son of Thomas and Jane Morris Cravens. In his early years he was a great student of the bible and joined the Christian church when he was 13 years old.

He is survived by his widow: Mrs. Matilda Cravens; two daughters: W. J. Buch, Jackson, MS, and Mrs. J. A. McMyler, St. Louis, MO; and by three sons: John T., Pryor G. And B. B. Cravens , of St. Louis, MO.
