Cornelius Hammonds

 

Cornelius Roman Hammonds, 33, of New Castle, formerly of Louisville, died Friday, May 2, 2008.  He was a member of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Louisville and the son of the late Bobby Lee and Betty Jean Pollard Hammonds.

 

He is survived by his wife: Joy Cox, New Castle; two daughters: Jaiera Cox and Jewell Cox, both of New Castle; one son: Jaylyn Cox, New Castle; and two brothers: Bobby Hammonds, Jr. and Anthony Hammonds, Louisville.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6th at Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Louisville.  Rev. Denise Owens-Davis, pastor, officiated.  Prewitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lena Hanlon

 

Lena A. Hanlon, 72, of Murfreesboro, TN, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at her residence after a lengthy illness.  She was native of Carroll County, the daughter of the late Eula Mae Griffith Garrett and Courtland Garrett and was a Mary Kay Senior Director.

 

She is survived by her husband: James D. Hanlon, Murfreesboro, TN; her children: Mona D. Couch-Aud, Owensboro, Dennis D. Couch, Louisville, Beverly D. Duncan, Bowling Green, John Edward Duncan II and wife, Dana, Madison, TN; two brothers: Johhy Marion Garrett, Campbellsburg and Robert E. Garrett, Owensboro; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14th at Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.

Cora Hardin

 

Cora Hardin, 90, Route 1, Turners Station, died Saturday, March 5, 1987 at Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.  She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 7th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Mike Peacock officiated.  Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Leslie Hardin

 

Leslie C. Hardin, 79, of Franklinton, died suddenly Sunday, March 2, 1997 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Thomas and Fannie Jones Hardin, a former owner and operator of Hardin’s Grocery, Franklinton and a member of the Drennon Christian Church.

 

He is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Norman (Judy) Roberts, Franklinton; two sisters: Mrs. Willie B. (Mary Margaret) Ricketts, Carrollton and Glenna Waford, Turners Station; one half-brother: Charles Adams, Campbellsburg; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by

his wife Olivene Oliver Hardin.

 

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 5th at the Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Kerry Grogan Pastor of the Drennon Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Franklin Cemetery.

Olivene Hardin

 

Mrs. Olivene Oliver Hardin, 75, of Franklinton, died Saturday, September 18, 1993 at her residence after an illness.  She was a retired analyst in finance printing in Frankfort for 27 years, a member and Sunday School teacher at Drennon Christian Church, a postmaster in Franklinton and assistant postmaster in Pleasureville for 18 years. 

 

She is survived by her husband: Leslie Hardin, Franklinton; one daughter: Mrs. Norman (Judy) Roberts, franklinton; three sisters: Mrs. M. J. (Beatrice) Baugh, Franklinton, Mrs. William(Lillie) Krebs and Mrs. Wanda Jones, both of Louisville; one brother: J. T. Oliver, Bethlehem and three grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21st, at Drennon Christian Church.  Rev. Pam Smith, Pastor of the Drennon Christian Church, officiated.  Lin Powell, new Castle, assisted.  Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Mahaley Harford

 

The remains of Mrs. Mahaley Harford, widow of the late Henry Harford, were brought to the home of Mrs. J. H. Malin last Tuesday afternoon.  Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning by Rev. James E. Wright, Campbellsburg.  Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.  Mrs. Harford, years ago lioved near Bethlehem, but of late years had been living st Kingswood.  She is survived by one son: Elmer Harford, Cincinnati, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Lee, of Kingswood, besides many nieces and nephews.  (November 21, 1844 – August 2, 1925)

Pauline T. Harp

 

Pauline T. Harp, 85, of Eminence, died Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange.  She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Grace Jones Tingle, a retired General Electric employee of 25 years, and a member of the Drennon Christian Church.

 

She is survived by one sister: Lacie Lee New, Owenton; one brother: Orville Tingle, Pewee Valley; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

 

Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon Monday, February 16th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Gary Polston, Pastor of the New Castle United Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

Alonzo Harris

 

Funeral services for Alonzo Harris, 71 (1856-1927), who died following a nine day illness of pneumonia, at his home near Port Royal, were held at the Port Royal Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by two sisters: Mrs. John Sours and Mrs. Mandy Blackburn, and one brother, D. P. Harris, Cincinnati.

Willanna Harrison

 

Willanna “Bill” Cravens Harrison, 76, of Frankfort, formerly of New Castle, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at St. Joseph East Hospital, Lexington.  She was a native of Henry County, the daughter ofc the late Francis Earl and Clyde Brown Cravens, a retired bank teller, a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the New Castle Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Jenifer Harrison and Judy Taylor, both of Frankfort; one sister: Emilene “Dickie” O’Nan, New Castle and one granddaughter.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G “Tommie” Harrison.

 

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Dr. David Charlton, Pastor of the New Castle Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Elizabeth Long Harrod

 

Mrs. Elizabeth Long Harrod, 64, died of a heart attack following pneumonia at her home near Pleasureville at 12:45 A.M. Friday, March 13, 1936.

 

She is survived by her husband: Thomas Harrod and sons: Russell Harrod, Franklinton, and Joseph Harrod, U. S. Army, a daughter: Mary Etta Moore and one sister, Miss Nan Long, Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14th, at the Methodist Church in Pleasureville. With Rev. James E. Wright, Campbellsburg, assisted by Rev. G. W. Hoffman.  Burial was in the Defoe Cemetery.

Raymond Harrod

 

Raymond W. Harrod, 88, of Cottonwood, AZ, formerly of Henry County, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Verde Valley Medical Center.  He was the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Long Harrod, a member of the Pleasureville United Methodist Church and was retired after 21 years of service from the Air Force.

 

He is survived by his wife: Esma Bailey Harrod, Cottonwood, AZ; one niece and one nephew.

 

Graveside services with full military honors were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5th at the Defoe Cemetery.  Rev. Colin Curtis, pastor of the Pleasureville United Methodist Church officiated.  Sholar Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Russell Harrod

 

Russell Harrod, 92, of Pleasureville, died Monday, September 22, 2003 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Long Harrod, a farmer, a member of the Pleasureville Masonic Lodge #410 for 50 years, and a member of the Pleasureville Christian Church, where he was an elder emeritus.

 

He is survived by his wife: Rose Douglas Harrod; One brother: Raymond Harrod, Cottonwood, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Services were Wednesday, September 24th at 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasureville Christian Church.  Rev. Libby McManis, Pastor of the Pleasureville Christian Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Colin Curtis, Pastor of the Pleasureville United Methodist Church.  Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Sue Miller Hartman

 

Mrs. Sue Miller Hartman died at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, February 2, 1936 at her home near Cemetery Hill.  Death was attributed to pneumonia.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church in Pleasureville, Monday, September 3rd  in the afternoon, by Rev. Lloyd Moody, assisted by Rev. G. W. Hoffman.

 

She is survived by her husband: Christopher Hoffman, and four sons, Lester Hartman, Carrollton, Chester Hartman, Port Royal, and Columbus Hartman and Henry Hartman who made their home with their parents at Cemetery Hill.

Elnora Hawkins

 

Elnora Black Hawkins, 93, formerly of Henry County, died Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.  She was the daughter of the late Melvin Elijah and Bertha Black and a homemaker.

 

She is survived by four sons: Donald Arington, Frankfort, Robert L. Arington, Lexington, Thomas Arington, Cincinnati and James C. Arington, Louisville; one sister: Maudie Westrick, Carrollton;six grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl T. Hawkins.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday February 14th, at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Jeff Arington officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Steven Duane Hawkins

 

Steven Duane Hawkins, 58, of Port Royal, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry B. and Pauline Burns Hawkins.  He was a life-long resident of Port Royal.

 

He is survived by three brothers: Mike Hawkins, Port Royal, Dale Hawkins, Sr., Central City, Donald B. “Sweat” Hawkins, Worthville; two nieces; four nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2008 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home,

Officiated by Rev. Ron Laughlin, Pastor of the Port Royal Methodist Church.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Alma Hayden

 

Miss Alma Hayden, 21 (May 15, 1911 – September 22, 1932), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayden, Eminence, died Thursday morning at the home of her parents after an illness of several months.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m.on Friday at the residence by Rev. Charles Grant, assisted by Rev. John Dickson.  Burial was in the Eminence Cemetery.

 

The deceased is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayden, and a brother, Albert Hayden, all of Eminence.  Two uncles also survive.

Lynne Morris “Morrie” Haymond

 

Lynne Morris “Morrie” Haymond, 59, of Warsaw, died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at her residence.  She was a graduate of Gallatin County High School and the University of Kentucky.  She was a retired employee of the State Cabinet for Health and Human Resources in Henry County.  She was also a member of the Warsaw United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by her step-mother: JoAnna Williams Haymond, Warsaw; two sisters: Barbara Haymond Hurter, Paris and Holly Haymond Young, Prospect; two nieces; two nephews and two-great-nephews.

 

A memorial service was held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 7th at Garnett-New-McDonald Funeral Home, Warsaw.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.  Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home was in charge of interment arrangements.

Funeral services for Miss Mahala Hays, 81, who died at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville Saturday, were held Monday afternoon by Rev. R. S. Wilson.  Burial was in the Cave Hill Cemetery.

Larry Herndon

 

Larry W. Herndon, 58, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 after a 13-year battle with leukemia.  He drove a semi for Mercer Transportation, was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the International Buckskin Association.

 

He is survived by his wife: Sherri Lee Herndon; two step-daughters: Jerri Roberts and Jamie Rahilly; two sisters: Elaine Curtsinger and Phyllis Ingram and six grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10th at Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Jerry Shelley officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Samuel Hicks, Sr.

 

Samuel Cecil Hicks, Sr., 71, of Scottsburg, IN, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at his residence.  He was the son of the late Charles Edward and Dicie Williams Hicks, retired from Como Products in Columbus, IN and a member of New Hope Church of God in Scottsburg, IN.

 

He is survived by his wife: Prudie Vires Hicks, Scottsburg, IN; four daughters: Brenda Jo Seal and Cecilia Lynn Hicks, both of Crothersville, IN, Melissa Ann Hickman, Scottsburg, IN, and Linda Gail Hicks, New Castle; three sons: Charles Gregory Hicks, William Anthony Hicks and Samuel Cecil Hicks, Jr. all of Scottsburg, In; three sisters: Lena Heintzelman, Pierceton, IN., Eily Shepherd. Prestonsburg and Iris Morgan, Hazard; two brothers: Wallace Hicks, Hamilton OH and Odell Hicks, Saratoga, UT; caregiver: Karen Harris; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7th at Buchanan Funeral Home, Austin, In.  Rev. Joe Johnson and Pastor Eugene Cook officiated.  Interment was in the Spurgeon Cemetery, Austin, IN.

Maude Hieatt

 

Mrs. Maude Hieatt, 58, wife of T. J. Hieatt, died Tuesday at 2:00 a.m.  She leaves one son: Dr. Beard Hieatt, Louisville, and Mrs. Anna Long, Savannah, GA.  She made her home with Miss Patterson Hoover. 

 

Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Sallie Vories Hieatt

 

Mrs. Sallie Vories Hieatt died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nat C. Cureton, in Louisville, last Friday after several months illness.

 

Mrs. Hieatt was born in Henry County on March 11, 1851.  She was a daughter of the late Senator W. L. Vories and Sarah Scott Vories of Henry County.  Early in life she united with the Christian Church.  She was married to William Hieatt, a prominent farmer of this county, in 1872 (born 1851), who died in July, 1888.  Five children were born to this marriage, all living.  Two daughters: Mrs. Cureton and Mrs. James Pryor, Lexington, and three sons: W. S. and Allen Hieatt, both of Louisville and Irvine T. Hieatt, Eminence.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and by a sister: Mrs. Minnie V. Hardin, Owen County.

 

Mrs. Hieatt lived in Henry County for sixty-five years and was greatly beloved by those who had the pleasure of her association.  She was outstanding in literary attainment and her strong mentality was with her to the end of her long life.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the residence of Judge Cureton, Sunday morning by Dr. William Newton Briney, pastor of Broadway Christian Church and exercises at the burial in the family lot at Smithfield were conducted by Rev. H. W. Elliott, Sulphur, a life long friend of the family.

Nora Mason Hopkins

 

Mrs. Nora Mason Hopkins, 77 (1854-1932), died Saturday at Ocala, FL, after a short illness.  The deceased was the widow of the late W. A. Hopkins, prominent citizen of Eminence and City Judge for several years.  She had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Batterton, Birmingham, AL since her husband’s death with exception of a part time with Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Bourne, New Castle.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the Eminence Cemetery Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Monday.  Mrs. Batterton is the only survival besides a granddaughter, Miss Pauline Batterton.

Anna Hughes

 

Anna Metten Hughes, 84, of Smithfield, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at her residence.  She worked for 35 years for Armour Foods and she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Metten.

 

She is survived by three daughters: Marcia Kellogg, Carole Smith and husband, William, and Deborah Clark and husband, Billy; one son: Keith Hughes and wife, Jennifer; five brothers; three sisters: six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by husbands, Wallace Fitzpatrick and John Hughes and grandchildren, Frank Smith and Kimberly Smith Logsdon.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22nd at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood.  Interment was in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

Dorothy Huisinga

 

Dorothy Glen Stigers Huisinga, 80, of New Castle, died Monday, February 4, 2008.  She was the daughter of the late Dwane and Edna Wilson Stigers and a registered nurse.

 

She is survived by her husband, John Huisinga, New Castle and two nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 8th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. O. B. Smith of Sulphur officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Sallie C. Hukill

 

Mrs. Sallie Carter Hukill, 81(1854-1935), died Friday, December 27, 1936, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. S. Jones, near New Castle.  Mrs. Hukill fell last spring and broke her hip and was unable to recover.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the Franklinton Baptist church on Monday at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. S. R. Mann, New Castle, officiating.  She had been a member of the Baptist Church since she was 14 years old, having become a member in Owen County.  Burial was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

 

Besides her daughter, Mrs. Jones, the deceased is survived by two other daughters: Mrs. N. L. Erwin and Mrs. Emma Gardner, both of New Castle; a son: Sidney Hukill, Gratz; a sister: Mrs. Gertrude Witt, Louisville and a brother: Sidney Carter, Shelbyville.  Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

Lillie Hull

 

Died on Sunday night, April 13, 1924, at the residence of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hull.  She had never been very strong and died of that dreaded disease tuberculosis.  Lille had been a member of the Baptist Church for nine years.  She was born June 29, 1900 and was one of the most patient sufferers.

Horace Hunt

 

Horace Hunt, 57, died of heart trouble at his home at Pleasureville Monday at 10:20 p.m.  The funeral services were conducted at the Eminence Cemetery on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

 

He is survived by his widow: Mrs. Amanda Raisor Hunt; one daughter: Mrs. Kenneth Gordon; and one son: Ercel Hunt, both of Louisville, and one sister: Mrs. Isaac Van, Frankfort.

 

The Eminence Lodge I.O.O.F. had charge of the services.

Thomas Husband

 

Thomas Fielding Husband, 90, of Frankfort, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.  He was the son of the late William R. and Lola Tindell Husband, a 27-year veteran of the U. S. Postal Service, a former employee of the Fire Marshall’s office and a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served in WWII.  He also was a member of the Bridgeport Christian Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Colleen Moore Richardson Husband, Frankfort; two daughters: Connie Riddell and Husband, Douglas, Frankfort, and Deborah Turner and husband, Larry, Lawrenceburg; one step-daughter: Carol McClughen and husband, Michael, Champaign, IL; one step-son: Gary Douglas Riddell and wife, Tsuski, Eugene, OR; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a wife: Effie Lee Hurst, a granddaughter: Elizabeth Riddell and one brother: Paul Husband.

 

Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29th at the Bridgeport Christian Church.  Rev. Keith McAliley, Dr. Bernie Meece, Dr. John Chenault, Rev. Wallace Kent and Rev. Jon Sutphin officiated.

Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post #4075.

Jerry Imel

 

Jerry L. Imel, 56, of New Castle, died Tuesday, October 31, 2000 at his residence after a long illness.  He was the son of the late Frank and Pauline Dyke Imel, owner and operator  of J. Imel Construction for twenty-four years and a member of the Henry Christian Church.

 

He is survived by his wife, Connie Brown Imel, New Castle; one daughter: Halaina Imel, Louisville; one son: Bryan Imel, New Castle; one brother: Robert Imel, Shelbyville; and two grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 2nd, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Dr. David V. Cooper, Pastor of the Campbellsburg Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Anna Ireland

 

Anna Hazel Ireland, 93, of Louisville, formerly of Sulphur, died Monday, January 7, 2008, at Richmond Nursing Home.  She was a retired machine operator and inspector for General Electric, a former member of the Homemakers of Sulphur and a member of the Dixie Valley Church of God.

 

She is survived by one son: William Ireland; one daughter: Betty Wilson; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Hiram Ireland and one daughter: Mary “Rita” Williamson.

 

Funeral services were held at noon Thursday, January 10th at the Heady Hardy Funeral Home, Louisville.  Interment was in the Louisville Memorial Gardens West Cemetery.

Ruth Jackson

 

Ruth Jackson, 73, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.

She was the daughter of the late Harve and Louise Mumphrey Wilson, a member of the Shelbyville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and a homemaker.

 

She is survived by her husband: William Jackson, Shelbyville; one son: Barry Jackson, Logansville, GA; three daughters: Teri Jackson, Louisville, Denise Swepson, Alpharetta, GA and Tracee Williams, Sandy Springs, GA; two sisters: Emma Thomas, Eminence and Wilma Wilson, Louisville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Private graveside services were held at Grove Hill Cemetery.  Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville, was in charge of arrangements.

Isaac Newton “I. N.” Jacoby

 

Isaac Newton “I. N.” Jacoby, 82 (September 2, 1849 – January 26, 1932), died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. L. Stalker, on Tuesday at 10:15 p.m.  Death was attributed to pneumonia.  The deceased had lived in Pleasureville all his life and was a member of the Pleasureville Christian Church.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasureville Christian Church, conducted by Rev. L. D. Fisher.  Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

 

The deceased is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Stalker, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Elry Clubb, Franklinton; and two sons: Lorenzo Jacoby and Fred Jacoby, both of Pleasureville.

Alice Jones James

 

In loving memory of Mrs. Alice Jones James who departed this life September 3, 1924.  She was born August 22, 1862 and married Edward James May 26, 1886.  She joined the Franklinton Baptist Church when 18 years old and lived a faithful member until death, although sickness kept her from attending as she would like to have done. 

 

She leaves two children: Willie D. James and Nora Lee Thompson.  Four grand children; three sisters: Mrs. Arbenia Jones, Annie E. Barton and Minnie Smith; and two brothers: Preston and Willie Jones and many friends who mourn her loss.

 

Her funeral was preached in the Bethlehem Baptist Church by W. F. Sewell and Rev. Leek.  She was laid to rest in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Cordia Emma Henderson “Cordie” James

 

Mrs. Cordie Henderson James, 17, (1917-1934), died at her home near Lacie at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 27, 1934. 

 

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 29th at the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. L. D. Fisher, Somerset, officiating.

 

She is survived by her husband: Marshall James, Lacie and one son, 22 months old; one brother: Oldham Henderson, Lacie; and an aunt: Mrs. Cordie Erskine, who raised and made her home with her.

Giles Witt James

 

Giles Witt James, 99, of Shelbyville, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at his home.  He was born in Henry County, the son of the late Fount and Anna James, and was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church.  He was also a farmer.

 

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Betsy and Fred Allen, Shelbyville; three nieces: Dorothy Watkins, Pleasureville, and Frances Downey and Elizabeth Hinton, both of Louisville; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-seven years, Mary Blache Nolin James; two son: Reuben and Donald James, Sr.; one brother: Willie James and two sisters: Ollie Aynes and Emma Martin.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 29th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Kenneth Shouse, Pastor the New Liberty Christian Church in Anderson County and Rev. Kenny Talbott, Chaplain at the Women’s Correctional Institute in Pewee Valley, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Claude “C. J.” Jenkins

 

Claude “C. J.” Jenkins, 71, of Louisville, died Friday at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville.

He was a native of Eminence, a retired employee of the Courier-Journal, an employee of Terri’s Kiddie Castle and a member of the Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include his wife: Mae. E. Jenkins; one son: Tony Hill; four daughters: Etonda Mitchell, Karen Allumbaugh, Telisa Stanford and Te’Andrea Jenkins; twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at King Solomon Baptist Church, Louisville, with burial in Green Meadows Memorial Cemetery.

Sam Jennings

 

Eugene Samuel “Sam” Jennings, 72, of Eminence, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.  He was the son of the late Gene and Rosie Jennings and operated Jennings Mobile Service Station in Eminence.

 

He is survived by his wife: Patsy brewer Jennings, Eminence; one son: Sam Jennings, Jr.; one daughter: Leslie Busby, Lexington; two brothers: Ed Jennings and Guy Winters, both of Eminence; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one brother, James Jennings and one sister, Stella Winters.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Ed Berry and Nick Coleman of the Henry Christian Church and Rev. Jerry Anderson of the Pleasureville Baptist Church officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Carl Johnson

 

Carl Wallace Johnson, 55, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Hosparus Unit at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange.  He was the son of the late Carl “Booty” and Clara Mae Guthrie Johnson, a former mold technician for General Electric, Ichikoh and Katayama, the owner/operator of Johnson Interior and Exterior and a member of the Clay Street Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Sylvia E. Johnson, Shelbyville; two sons: Charles Mondale Johnson and Jeremiah Scott Johnson, both of Shelbyville; two step-sons: Harry O. Moore, III, Louisville and Martin L. Smith, Shelbyville; one stepdaughter: Teracia Thomas, Louisville; three brothers: Herbert Johnson, Little Rock, AR, Gregory Stone and Eddie Shepers, both of Louisville; one sister: Lisa Johnson, Chicago, IL; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12th at Clay Street Baptist Church, Shelbyville.  Rev. Ronald Holder officiated.  Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Alva Ellegood Jones

 

Mrs. Alva Ellegood Jones was a daughter of John and Martha Ellegood, many years deceased.  She was born March 10, 1869 and married Joe Jones early in the year of 1891.  To this union five children were born, three had gone on before.  Mrs. Betty Miller about eight years ago.  A year later, Mrs. Venie Welch. The five years ago, a son, George Jones.  Only two sons, Prentice and John, both married, with the husband survive.

 

Mrs. Jones had been in bad health for about tyhree years, in fact paralyzed, and her death was not much of a surprise.  She died at her home in Charleston, IN, August 28, 1924 and the remains were brought to Franklinton for interment on Friday.  Rev. Willie Sewell was called to conduct the funeral but failed to get the message in time.  The funeral will possibly be later.

 

She was a member of the Methodist Church.  A splendid woman with a host of friends.  Two sisters, Mrs. Joe Heightchew and Mrs. D. P. Jones also survive.

Anna Lou Harbin Jones

 

Anna Lou Harbin Jones, 85, passed away on Monday, June 28, 1993, at Charlestown, IN.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 30th at Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle. 

Rev. Mitch Embry officiated.  Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Avery Jones

 

Mr. Avery Jones, 89, of Campbellsburg, died Saturday, September 15, 1993, at Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.  He was a former manager of Lake Jericho, a retired farmer and a member of the Campbellsburg United Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Joe N. (Jean) Orem, Campbellsburg; two grandchildren: Mrs. Steve (Barbara) Mills and Mrs. Kenneth (Cindy) Richardson, both of Campbellsburg; and four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Helena Jones.

 

 Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 27th at Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Brad Klassen, Pastor of the Campbellsburg United Methodist Church, officiated.  He was assisted by Rev. Scott Orr, Pastor of the Campbellsburg Baptist Church.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Helena James Jones

 

Mrs. Helena James Jones, 88, of Campbellsburg, died Thursday, August 12, 1993, at Tri-County Baptist Hospital, LaGrange.  She was a member of the Campbellsburg United Methodist Church for 60 years.

 

She is survived by her husband: Avery Jones, Campbellsburg; one daughter: Mrs. Joe N. (Jean) Orem, Campbellsburg; two granddaughters: Mrs. Steve (Barbara) Mills and Mrs. Kenneth (Cindy) Richardson, both of Campbellsburg; and four great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15th at the Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Scott Orr, Pastor of the Campbellsburg Baptist Church, officiated.  He was assisted by Rev. Carl Rucker, Pastor of the Campbellsburg Christian Church.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Jennie Chandler Jones

 

Mrs. Jenie Chandler Jones, 62, widow of Mr. Tholly Jones, died Monday afternoon at the home of her niece, Mrs. Ernest Taylor, Sulphur, from illness of several weeks standing.  She is survived by one brother: Mr. George Chandler, Trimble County; one sister: Mrs. Eddie Abbott, Madison, IN and a number of nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Sulphur Methodist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. S. J. Bradley.  Burial was in the Sulphur I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Jones was a life-long member of the Sulphur Methodist Church.

Melvin Jones

 

Melvin Jones, 76, of Westport, died Friday, June 20, 2003 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Frank P. and Eleanor Quickert Jones, a WWII Army Veteran, A Korean Conflict Air Force Veteran, a retired foreman at International Harvester, and a member of the Drennon Christian Church.

 

He is survived by four sons: Melvin D. Jones, Edwin R. Jones, and Anthony R. Jones, all of Westport; one step-daughter: Mrs. Johnny (Brenda) Haney, Louisa; two step-sons: Jack Rucker, Ingram, TX and Mike

Mahoney, Dallas, TX; three sisters: Mrs. M. B. (Helen) Hardin, Port Royal, Mrs. Kenneth (Eleanor) Sharp, Turners Station and Mildred Sharp, Campbellsburg; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Dunaway Jones.

 

Services were held Monday, June 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Darrell Goodlett, Pastor of the Bardstown Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Robert S. Jones

 

Robert S. Jones, 66, of New Castle, died suddenly Wednesday, February 11, 1976 at his residence.  He was a retired farmer and a member of the Drennon Christian Church.

 

His survivors are: his wife: Mrs. Anna Lou Harbin Jones; one son: James Andrew Hall, Jr., Smith Grove; one sister: Mrs. Laura Hall, Shelbyville; and one brother: Douglas Jones, Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday from Prewitt’s Funeral Home, New Castle.  Dr. Clayton Klingenfus officiated.  Burial was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Sarah Jones

 

Sarah Jo Wise Jones, 77, of Bedford, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange.  She was the daughter of the late Elmo Herman Wise and Ruby Myrtle Richmond Wise and a homemaker.

 

She is survived by three sons: Leslie Douglas Jones and wife, Ann, Pleasureville, Stephen J. Jones, and wife, Billie Jo and Christopher W. Jones, all of Bedford; two daughters: Brenda Diane Jones Hudson and husband, Chester, Bedford, and Gwen Jones Wilson and husband, Darrell, Crestwood; two sisters: Wanda Lucille Wise Summitt, LaGrange and Rachel Mae Wise Jeffries, Crestwood; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Eugene Jones and one brother: Bernard Douglas Wise.

 

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 1st at Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford.  Dr. Darrell Wilson officiated.  Interment was in the Bedford I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Squire Francis Jones

 

Squire Francis Jones, of Franklinton, died June 13, 1925, at his home.  He was born March 20, 1841, in this community.  On January 8, 1863, he married Miss Lucinda Jane Maddox. 

 

He is survived by his wife, daughter, Mrs. J. V. Whitfield, and one son: F. Eloy Jones; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  One daughter, Mrs. John C. Bryant, died four years ago.

 

Mr. Jones has been a faithful member of the Drennon Ridge Baptist Church for over 63 years.

Stella Harp Jones

 

Stella Harp Jones, 89, of Sulphur, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at the Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange.  She was a member of the New Castle First Baptist Church; daughter of the late Mordica and Catherine Long Harp and was preceded in death by her husband: Duard “Joner” Jones; son Donald Lee Jones and half-brother: Omer Harp.

 

He is survived by a son: David E. Jones, Sulphur; three sisters: Beulah Harp Adler, Austin, IN, Laurena Kurk, Louisville and Mary Alice Hawkins, Eminence; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 27th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Dr. David Charlton, Pastor of the New Castle First Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Mary Jane Kalusy

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Kalusy, 74 (1862-1934), widow of Godlove Kalusy, farmer of Eminence, were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Eminence Christian Church, with Rev. W. S. Harsell, Covington, officiating.  Burial was in the Eminence Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Kalusy and her eldest daughter, Miss Effie Kalusy, had been visiting two other sisters, Misses Alice and Virginia Kalusy, teachers in the Covington City Schools, for several weeks and had planned to return to Eminence on Saturday when Mrs. Kalusy was stricken and died.  She is also survived by a son, A. J. Kalusy; one sister: Mrs. A. D. Hawkins; and one brother: A. C. Powers, all of Louisville.

Clara Young Karr

 

Mrs. Frank M. (Clara Young) Karr, (1869-1931), of Eminence, died Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Southern Baptist Hospital in Louisville.  The deceased had been critically ill for the past two months.  The body was brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Middleton on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Middleton on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Roy Johnston, Pastor of the Eminence Christian Church officiating.  Mrs. Karr was a member of the Eminence Christian Church.

 

Surviving her, besides her husband, Frank M. Karr, is her mother, Mrs. William H. Young and three brothers: Phatcher Young, Percy Young and Stanley Young, all of Louisville.

William Kelley

 

The death angel has again visited our midst and claimed for its own Mr. William Kelley.  He was an honest, up-right man and leaves a host of friends and a sweet Christian wife, a daughter and two brothers to mourn his loss.  He was an honored member of the Odd Fellows and Masons.  He was a Mason for 48 years.  May the Lord that he trusted comfort his dear wife is the prayer of their friends.

Dawayne “Delaine” Allen Kelly, 40, of Franklin County, died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.  He was a construction worker.

 

He is survived by his father: Bill Kelly, Lawrenceburg; mother: Brenda Kelly Boothby, Defoe; Jacob Kelly, Paducah; one daughter: Heather Kelly, Frankfort; two sisters: Teresa Gogle, Jasper, IN and Glenda Kelly, Louisville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Rick Brewer officiated.  Interment was in the Defoe Cemetery.

Tressie Kelly

 

Miss Tressie Kelly, 23, died Monday, February 1, 1932, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Kelly, near Franklinton.  Her death was attributed to tuberculosis.  The deceased is survived by her parents and several brothers and sisters.

 

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Rhoda Sullivan, of Point Pleasant, conducted by Rev. L. D. Fisher.  Burial was in the Point Pleasant Cemetery.

Lyle Kemper, Jr.

 

Lyle Kemper, Jr., nine months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Kemper, died last Thursday at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Grant, Richmond.  The child was sick two weeks and death was attributed to double pneumonia and brain fever.

 

The body was brought to New Castle on Saturday and funeral services were conducted at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery with Rev. L. A. Fryman officiating.

Albert Kephart

 

Mrs. Mollie B. Hall, Pleasureville, has received a telegram stating that Albert Kepharet died in California on Tuesday.  He is a former Henry Countian and has many relatives here.  The deceased is survived by his wife: Mrs. Emilene Burk Kephart.  Mrs. Hall is the aunt of Mr. Kephart.

Warren Thomas Kephart

 

Warren Thomas Kephart, 76, died at his residence near New Castle Tuesday afternoon, death resulting from the effects of influenza contracted in March.

 

Funeral services were held at the residence at 2:30 Thursday afternoon led by Rev. T. C. Meador, assisted by Rev. Fryman.  Mr. Kephart was a prominent farmer of this community, a member of the Methodist Church, serving as Steward a number of years.  He was liked and respected by all who knew him.

 

The surviving members of the family are his wife: Mrs. Caro Wells; four children: E. M. Kephart, Mentor, OH, Mrs. C. A. Riley, Louisville, Mrs. S. W. Gilbert and W. T. Kephart, Jr., of New Castle; one brother: W. F. Kephart, Pleasureville; one nephew: Carey Bayse, Louisville; and two nieces: Mrs. Henry Curtwright, Louisa, KY and Mrs. W. G. Mershon, Louisville.

Blanche N. Kincaid

 

Mrs. Blanche Newman Kincaid, 35, of Bagdad, who died at the Baptist Hospital, Louisville, Tuesday night was buried at Pleasureville on Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock.

 

The deceased is survived by her husband: Stanley Kincaid and four small sons; her mother: Anna Newman, and four brothers: Oscar Newman, Pleasureville, Druful Newman, Shelbyville, Sidney Newman, Turners Station and Albert Newman, Florida.

Albert Curtis King

 

Albert Curtis King,. 75, entered into rest at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, January 19, 1`936, after five days illness of double pneumonia and heart trouble.  Born in Estill County, November 7, 1860, he made his home in that neighborhood until thirty-eight years ago when he moved to Henry County.  Fourteen years ago the family came to Oldham County and settled in LaGrange.  He was a member of the New Castle Baptist Church.  Mr. King was married in 1901 to Miss Mary Elizabeth Cook of New Castle, who survives him.  Other surviving are Powell King, Louisville, the son of his first marriage; one daughter: Miss Hallie King; five grandsons; two sisters: Mrs. Katherine Tuttle, Irvine and Mr. John Tuttle, Lexington.

 

Services were held at the home on First Avenue Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. T. E. Ennis was in charge, assisted by Rev. W. B. Garriott.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Berry Kitson

 

Mr. Berry Kitson, another of Pleasureville’s old citizens to quit this field of life, had for a number of months been a sufferer of a complication of diseases, though his suffering at times seemed unbearable, he never complained, saying his suffering was nothing to what his Lord suffered for him.  Mr. Kitson was a kind, considerate man, we are told that he wanted the people who ministered to him during his illness thanked publically for their many acts of kindness.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church by Rev. James E. Wright.  Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.  Mr. Kitson is survived by his widow and several nieces.

Wesley Knight

 

Wesley Knight, 48, of Campbellsburg, died Monday, June 16, 2008.  He was employed with the Kentucky State Reformatory as a correctional officer for 25 years, a member of KBA/KMA, FOP and Rivers of Life Church in LaGrange.

 

He is survived by his mother: Ann Clark Barnett, LaGrange; an aunt, uncles and friends.

 

Services were at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24th at the Oldham County Funeral Home, LaGrange.  A graveside service were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 5th at Bagdad Cemetery,  Bro. David Mattingly conducted the service.

Lawrence C. Kyle

 

Lawrence C. Kyle, 31, died at the home of his mother, Mrs. C. C. Moody last Thursday night, following a long illness of heart trouble.

 

Funeral services were held at the New Castle Baptist Church, Saturday afternoon, and were conducted by Rev. G. W. Boswell.  Burial followed in the New Castle Cemetery.  He was a member of the New Castle Baptist Church, having joined recently and was a member of the American Legion.

 

For four years, Mr. Kyle served as a sailor in the United States Navy, on the battleship Louisiana, seeing service in Navy yards in this country, in Mexico and Vera Cruz.

 

Following his release from the Navy after the war, with his health impaired, he spent some years at Tucson, AZ and Fort Collins, CO.  A great part of the time since his discharge he was in government hospitals in Ohio and Arkansas.  It was at Hot Springs where he was taken seriously ill the last time, when his mother and brother went after him, bringing him to New Castle where the last few months of his life was spent.

 

Besides his mother he is survived by one brother: Clarence P. Kyle and one half-sister: Virlinia Moody, all of New Castle.

 

Lawrence was born in this county, and attended school at New Castle.  One year, after he had finished school, was spent in Kansas City, two years at Waddy, and at the age of 18 he joined the Navy.  Since that time and the time of his release he was but a visitor in New Castle, making his home from time to time at Carrollton.
