Charles Barnett 

Charles Lee Barnett, age 87, of Shelbyville died Monday, June 14, 2004.  He was a native of London, the son of the late Samuel and Jessie Barnett, former operator of Barnett Farm Supply, North Pleasureville, a farmer, a Mason, a member of First Christian Church, Shelbyville and a member of the Board of the Christian Church in Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; four children: Charles Wayne Barnett, Maysville; Carole Sue Kimmins, Freeport, New York; Sally McClain, Shelbyville; and Lee Barnett, Cropper; one sister, Ruth Downes, Louisville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, June 18, at First Christian Church, Shelbyville.  Shannon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marshall Barnett

Marshall Barnett, 63 of Route 1, Eminence died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 15 at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.  He was a farmer near Eminence and a member of the Cropper Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Thelma McGuire Barnett, Eminence; three daughters, Mrs. Gene Gilbert, Frankfort, Mrs. E. W. Wishman, Eminence, and Mrs. Michael Barnsfather, Pleasureville; three sons, Everett L. Barnett, Eminence, William Carter Barnett, Shelbyville, Glenn A. Barnett, Pewee Valley; mother, Mrs. Chris Barnett; twelve grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Woodward, Shelbyville, Mrs. Cora Mae Vibens, Shelbyville and Mrs. William Shely, New Monuth, New Jersey; and two brothers, Gus O. Barnett, Mt. Eden and William Robert Barnett, Eminence.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 17 at the Christ Ambassador Church, Shelbyville.  Burial was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Nancy Barnett 

Nancy LaMaster Barnett, age 77, of Bagdad, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at Crestview Health Care Center in Shelbyville.  She was a homemaker, member of Bagdad Baptist Church, and daughter of the late Fowler Orem and Nancy Bartlett Tandy LaMaster.

She is survived by one son, James Allen Barnett, Bagdad; two sisters: Mary Bennett Hixson, Cottontown, Tennessee; Jean Gayle, Frankfort; and five grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John V. Barnett, and her son, Paul Barnett.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 22 at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Dr. Edward H. Erwin officiated.  Interment was in Bagdad Cemetery.

Orah Barnett 

The whole community is filled with sorrow and gloom at the passing of Orah Barnett, which occurred Tuesday morning at 7 o’clock.  He had (a) deep cold which later developed into pneumonia.  His physician and nurse fought it with all the skill at their command but the Grim Reaper had marked him for his own.

Orah was born and reared in this community where he has many warm friends.  He was born September 20, 1891 and is survived by his father, Mr. John Barnett who has watched him tenderly since infancy, his mother having died when he was a small boy, and one brother Price Barnett of New Castle who was at his bed side when the end came.  Several uncles and aunts and many friends who mourn his loss.

The deepest sympathy is felt for Mr. Barnett over the loss of this son, their devotion was great and also to the brother.  They will miss him so much.

Funeral services were held at the Union Baptist Church at Turners Thursday morning, with burial at that place.  Services were conducted by Elder Weaver of the Primitive Baptist Church.

Robert Barnett 

Robert “Shorty” Barnett, age 77, of Eminence, died  Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at his residence.  He was a native of Anderson County, member and deacon of Union Baptist Church, farmer, painter, and owner of Barnett Cab Service for 37 years, and son of the late Chris and Emma Skimhorn Barnett.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Ola Wilhoite Barnett, Eminence; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Ray Barnett.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at Sholar Funeral Home.  Rev. Vic Johnson, Union  Baptist Church, officiated.  Burial in the Eminence Cemetery.

Robert Barnett, Sr. 

Robert O. Barnett, Sr., age 89 of New Castle died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at his residence.  He was a farmer and worked 22 years for Farm Credit in New Castle.  He was a member of Campbellsburg Baptist Church and son of the late Ashby and Cora Simmons Barnett.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. Barnet, New Castle; one daughter, Vickie McCubbin, Roanoke, Virginia; two sisters: Ella Barnes, Florida; Doris Barnett, Louisville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one son, Robert O. Barnett, Jr. and four brothers.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 5 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Michael Duncan, Hospice Chaplain, officiated.  Interment was in New Castle Cemetery.

William Barnett 

Mr. William Barnett, one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of the community, died Monday, February 22, and was buried in Eminence Cemetery on the following day.  The cause of death seems to have been paralysis of a progressive character.  It cam upon him something like two years ago and he grew worse steadily until death was the result.  Mr. Barnett was a man of fine character with good business capacity and was a useful citizen.  He leaves three children, viz, Mr. James Barnett, Miss Birdie Barnett and Mrs. Charles Bright – all most excellent people who have the unfeigned sympathy of everyone.

Mrs. Willie Barnett 

Mrs. Willie Mae Barnett, 70, of Shelbyville, died Monday, April 1st at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.

She was a native of Spencer County and a member of the Fisherville Baptist Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Henrietta Ritter, Pleasureville, Mrs. Barbara Jean Nethery, Bowling Green, Mrs. Charlotte Arington and Mrs. Betty Harp, Finchville; one son, Scott Barnett, Shelbyville; one half sister, Mrs. Evans Burgin, Eubank, Kentucky; One brother, James Edward Nation, Mt. Eden; and one half brother, J. W. Cook, Shelbyville.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3rd at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery.

Wilson Barnett 

Wilson Thomas Barnett, 50, passed away Wednesday, December 29, at the Suburban Hospital, after a long illness.

He was a Spencer County native, a resident of Fisherville where he was a member of the Baptist Church and an employee for 15 years at Southern Strip Steel Company in Eminence.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Jamison Barnett; daughters, Connie Gnagie, Fisherville; Beverly Goins and Brenda Tucker, both of Jeffersontown; sons, Carroll, Bullitt County; and Arnold of Jeffersontown; six grandchildren and one step grandchild; his mother, Mrs. A. D. Barnett, Shelbyville; brother, Scottie Shelby County; and sisters, Jean Nethery, Bowling Green; Henrietta Ritter, Oldham County; and Charlotte Arington and Betty Harp, both of Shelby County.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 31, at the Shannon Funeral Home.  Rev. Bill Stocksbury officiated with burial in the Grove Hill Cemetery.

Rena Barnsfather 

Mrs. Rena Barnsfather, 86, of Pleasureville, died Monday, December 9 at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.

She is survived by two daughters, Miss Zelma Barnsfather, Pleasureville and Mrs. Frank H. Coombs, Smithfield; two sons, Clayborn Barnsfather and Paymond Barnsfather, both of Pleasureville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 12 at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Larry Wetherington, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Kenneth Barton

Mr. Kenneth Lyle Barton, age 77, of Franklinton died Saturday, July 30, 1994 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville.  He was a retired farmer, a sexton at the Franklinton Cemetery for 40 years and a member of Berea Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Corinne Roberts Barton, Pleasureville; three daughters: Mrs. Travis (Lynda) Wilson, Turners Station; Mrs. Wendell (Carol Sue) Truman and Miss Barbara Jean Barton, both of Pleasureville; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Monday, August 1, at the Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. and Mrs. Mike Huff, pastor of the Franklinton Baptist Church, officiated.  Rev. Nancy Giese, pastor of Berea Christian Church, assisted.  Interment was in Franklinton Cemetery.

Mrs. Nora Barton 

Mrs. Nora Barton, 86 of Route 2, Pleasureville died Monday, May 4th at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.  She was a member of the Berea Christian Church for 70 years.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Barton, Route 2, Pleasureville and Glenn Barton, Taylorsville; one sister, Mrs. A. W. (Pearl) Bush, Route 2, Pleasureville; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Thursday, May 7th from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Rev. Stephanie Boughton, pastor of the Berea Christian Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Robert Pettyjohn, pastor of the Franklinton Baptist Church.  Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Sidney T. Barton 

Sidney T. Barton, 67, died Friday at Miami, Florida.  He was a new Castle native and a retired employee of the Armour Company.

His wife, Mrs. Birdie Smith Barton, survives.  His sister, Mrs. Nancy Barton Thomas of New Castle also survives.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Prewitt Funeral Home here.

Barbara Bates 

Barbara Bates, age 62, of Campbellsburg, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange.  She was a member of Port Royal Baptist Church and daughter of the late Warren and Lucy Kent Jones.

She is survived by two daughters: Vickie Stivers, Shelbyville; and Mrs. Jeff (Carla) Conrad, Lawrenceburg; one son, Franklin Keith Bates, Turners Station; Companion of many years, Junior Brewer, and three grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Bates, and infant daughter, Lisa Marie Bates.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, March 23) at 1 p.m. at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Carl Rucker, pastor of Port Royal Baptist Church, will officiate.  Interment will be in Port Royal Cemetery.

Laura May Bates 

Laura May Bates, 90, of Shelbyville, died there Wednesday.  Funeral, 2 p.m. Friday at Sholar-Thomas Funeral Home in Pleasureville.  Visitation after 5 p.m. Thursday.

Theresa Bates 

Theresa Nell Bates, age 52, of Pendleton, died Thursday, February 1, 1990 at her residence  after an illness.

Mrs. Bates, the former Theresa Nell Whitlock, was a native of Exie, Kentucky.  She had worked as an intake counselor for Charter Hospital.

She was a member of the Sligo Baptist Church. 

She is survived by her husband, Harold Bates, Pendleton; three sons, H. Grieg Bates, Pendleton, Dan Todd Bates, Lexington, and Matt Bates, Pendleton; her mother, Lelia Whitlock, Greensburg; three sisters, Maxine Bagby, Louisville, June Wilgus, Madisonville, and Trevia Hopkins, Louisville; one brother, Voris Whitlock, Exie.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 3 at Radcliffe Funeral Home in LaGrange with Reverend Dale Hanson, Pastor of the Sligo Baptist Church and Reverend Robert Alston, Associate Pastor of the Walnut Street Baptist Church officiating.  Interment was in the Sligo Cemetery.

Vernon Bates 

Mr. Vernon Lee Bates, age 67, of Port Royal, died Monday, February 19, 1990 at the Veterans Hospital in Louisville.

He was clerk at Hawkins Farm Center in Port Royal for 29 years, and an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by three brothers, Raymond Bates, Route 1, Turners Station, Robert E. Bates and Leon Bates, both of Carrollton; several nieces and nephews; dear loyal friend, Wm. Van Hawkins and family, Port Royal.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22 at the Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Robert Wilson, Pastor of the Port Royal Methodist Church, will officiate.  Interment will be in the Port Royal Cemetery with full military services by American Legion Post No. 41 of Carrollton.

Mrs. Lois Batterton 

Mrs. Lois Batterton, 62 of Eminence, died Thursday, November 26th at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Batterton, Eminence; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Lynn Perry, Hendersonville, Tennessee; one son, Keith Batterton, Harrodsburg; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 28th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Eddie Phenix, former pastor of the Eminence Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Batts 

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Batts, age 81 of Route 1, Turners Station, Kentucky died Friday, August 17 at the Baptist Home East, Louisville, Kentucky.  She was a member of the Campbellsburg Baptist Church and Organist for over 40 years.

She is survived by one son, Boyd D. Batts, Louisville, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Mrs. John (Carla) Gerding, Berlin, Germany; and Mrs. Dudley (Susan) Daniel, Florence, Kentucky; two great-grandsons, Robert Dunean Gerding and John Andrew Gerding, both of Berlin, Germany.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 19. Prewiit’s Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.  Officiated by Rev. Roger Winnsett, pastor of the Campbellsburg Baptist Church.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Gladys S. Batts 

Galdys S. Batts passed away Friday, September 15, 1995 in New Castle.  Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 18, 1995 at Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Carl Rucker, pastor of the Campbellsburg Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in Campbellsburg Masonic Cemetery.

John M. Batts 

John M. Batts, 46, of New Castle, died Tuesday, August 13 at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville.

He was a member of the New Castle Methodist Church, and a maintenance man at Lincoln Income Life Insurance Company, Louisville.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Bramblett Batts, New Castle; his mother, Mrs. Lois Mitchell Batts, New Castle; and one brother, William Eugene Batts, New Castle.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 16 from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Rev. Barclay Brown, pastor of the New Castle Methodist Church will officiate and be assisted by Dr. Clayton Klingenfus, pastor of the New Castle Christain Church.  Interment will be in the New Castle Cemetery.

Mark Batts 

Mark Batts, age 43 of Pleasureville, died Friday, February 10, 2006.  He was a member of Living Waters Church in Clay Village and son of the late Lewis E. Batts.

He is survived by his mother, Anita Batts, Pleasureville; one sister, Gena Batts Newcom, Shelbyville and one niece.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 12 at Sholar Funeral Home.  Anita Batts and Rodney Morgan officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Mrs. Minnie Batts 

Mrs. Minnie Hill Batts, 85, of Eminence died Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Robertson in Louisville.  She was a member of the Eminence Methodist Church.

Other survivors are one brother, R. M. Hill, Louisville; four sisters, Mrs. Joe Manual, Mrs. E. J. Eversole, Mrs. Ben Perry and Mrs William Shelton of Louisville; and one grandson, Robert Lee Robertson.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday at Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence.  Rev. Thomas Adams officiated.  Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery.

Thomas B. Batts

Thomas B (Tommy) Batts, 65, died Monday at the home of his son, Courtland Batts, Smithfield.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cleo Batts, Louisville; two sons, Courtland Batts, Smithfield, and Thomas C. Batts, North Carolina.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Campbellsburg Christian Church with Rev. John S. Chambers officiating.  Burial was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

Walter L. Batts 

Walter L. Batts, 31, Port Royal, died Friday AT St. Anthony Hospital in Louisville.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Port Royal Baptist Church, with Rev. Carl Whirley officiating.  Burial was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Elba Batts, one daughter, Catherine Marie Batts; his father, Luther Batts, all of Louisville; two sisters, Mrs. Mary K. Batts and Mrs. Irene Krieg, both of Louisville.

Walter Batts 

Walter Morris Batts, 79, of Route 1, Turners Station, died Sunday, May 13th at his residence.

He was a native of Henry County; a retired farmer; and a member of the Turners Station Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Neva Mahoney Batts, Turners Station; one son, William Morris Batts, Turners Station; two grandchildren, Anita Batts and Lynetta Batts, both of Turners Station.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16th T Barnett-Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.  Rev. Carl Rucker and Rev. Tim Snow officiated.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.
