Carroll Powell

 

Carroll C. Powell, 65, of Eminence, died Tuesday, March 1, 1983, in Louisville.  He was a member of the Eminence Baptist Church, a retired cabinet maker, a charter member of the Henry County Emergency Squad No. 2, past Master of the Eminence Lodge 282 F & AM and a former member of the Eminence Fire Department.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Minnie A. Powell, Eminence; one son: James A. Powell, Birmingham, AL; one daughter: Mrs. Nancy Carroll Heightchew, New Castle; six grandchildren; two brothers: Merle Powell and John Powell, both of Eminence; and one sister: Mrs. Allene Powell Brent, New Castle.

 

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 3rd at the Eminence Baptist Church.  Rev. Michael Duncan, pastor, officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.  Ricketts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clara Forquer Powell

 

Clara Forquer Powell, 90, of New Castle, passed away on Monday, April 1, 1996.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3rd at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Dr. David Charlton, pastor of the New Castle Baptist Church, officiated,

assisted by Rev. Billy Forquer.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Bessie Powell

 

Mrs. Elisha E. (Bessie) Powell, (1893-1962), 67, of Port Royal, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marie P. Davis, Louisville.  Mrs. Powell had been in ill health for some time.

 

Besides her husband and daughter, she is survived by a son: Robert L. Powell, Batavia, OH; one sister: Mrs. Lyndon Chilton, Turners Station and three grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at McCarty Funeral Home, New Castle. Burial was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Florence F. Powell

 

Mrs. Florence Ford Powell, (1876-1960), 83, widow of J. R. Powell, died at 11:55 p.m. Monday at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.  Mrs. Powell, who suffered a stroke fifteen days ago, would have been 84 years old on Thursday.  She was a native of Trimble County, a daughter of the late Silas and Retta Swift Ford.  She had been a life-long member of the Sligo Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Raymond Sibley, of Trimble County with whom Mrs. Powell had made her home, and Mrs. Fred Gilbert, St. Petersburg, FL; one son: Robert F. Powell, Phoenix, AZ; two sisters: Mrs. Olive F. Boyer, Philadelphia, PA and Mrs. Ora Callis, Louisville; one brother: S. W. Ford, Carrollton; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Thursday, at the Sligo Baptist Church.  Rev. Bruce Fisher, pastor, will officiate.  Interment will be in the Sulphur Cemetery.

Floyd E. Powell

 

Floyd E. Powell, 89, of New Castle, died Saturday, September 21, 2002, at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange.  He was the son of the late Allen and Margaret Grant Powell, a retired farmer and a member of the Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by five daughters: Mrs. Gene (Alma) Clark, Winchester, Mrs. Eugene (Katye) Mahoney, Campbellsburg, Mrs. David (Carolyn) Jones, Sulphur, Mrs. Paul(Laverne) Jones, Smithfield and Mrs. Phillip (Donna) Gunn, Springfield; one son: Ray Powell, New Castle; three sisters: Mrs. Claude (Aline) Shannon, Jr., Louisville, Mrs. Donald (Lillian) Burns, Sr., Shelbyville and Audrey James, Middletown, Ohio; three brothers: Gilbert Powell, Louisville, Owen C. Powell and Larry W. Powell, both of Eminence; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by wife: Mary Frances Mahoney Powell; one son: Floyd Allen Powell; four sisters: Frances Carol Powell, Dorothy Powell, Margaret Wainscott and Bratty Wilson; five brothers: Jessie Powell, Morris Powell, Wirt Powell, Edgar Powell and Glenmore Powell; one grandchild: Phillip Powell Gunn and one great-grandchild: Melissa Creech.

 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Officiated by Rev. Nick Coleman, Sulphur.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Gayle K. Powell

 

Gayle K. Powell was born April 30, 1937 and died February 17, 2007 in Lexington.  He was a native of Henry County.

 

Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 21st at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington.  Rev. Bill Marcum and Rev. Bobby Aldridge officiated.  Interment was in the Lexington Cemetery.

Hattie Powell

 

Mrs. Hattie Ransdell Powell, (1892-1982), 89, of New Castle, died Thursday, February 11, 1982, at the Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.  She was a member of the New Castle Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Coleman (Imogene)Arnsparger, Pleasureville; one grandson, Dale Arnsparger, Bagdad; one great-granddaughter, Laura Arnsparger, Bagdad; son-in-law: Coleman Arnsparger and granddaughter, Vonda Arnsparger, Bagdad.

 

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 13th from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Rev. Mike Parsons, pastor of the New Castle Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Robert Coney, pastor of the Elmburg Baptist Church.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Julian Powell

 

Julian Powell, (1903-1956), 54, Turners Station farmer, died last Wednesday, January 25, 1956, at the Baptist hospital in Louisville after an extended illness. 

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Loretta Powell; two daughters: Miss Marilyn Powell, Louisville and Mrs. Oral Sanders, Turners Station; four sons: Randolph, Joe and L. P. Powell, Louisville and David Powell, Turners Station; one sister: Mrs. Bertha Ricketts, Eminence; his father: E. B. Powell, Eminence; two brothers: Vivian and Lester Powell, Turners Station and eight grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Turners Station Baptist Church.  Rev. B. S. Guthrie, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. John Chandler.  Burial was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Mamie Powell

 

Mrs. Mamie Neal Powell, 83, died Wednesday, December 26, 1985, at the home of her daughter in Turners Station.  She was a native of Nelson County and a member of the Turners Station Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by three sons: William Randolph Powell, Smithland, KY, Lorenzo B. (L.B.) Powell, Prospect and Joseph Earl Powell, Louisville; two daughters: Mrs. Juanita Sanders, Turners Station and Mrs. Marilyn Helen Horn, Pendleton; one brother: Raymond Neal, Louisville; two sisters: Mrs. Essie Mills, Louisville and Mrs. Anna Mae Montgomery, Pendleton; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 28th at the Barnett-Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.  Rev. Allen Brewer, pastor of the Turners Station Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Martha Gray Powell

 

Martha Gray Powell, 85, New Castle, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in New Castle.  She was a native of Henry County and the wife of the late Lindon L. “Sug” Powell.  She was a school teacher and a retired dietician for the State Regulatory Agency survey team and was a member of the Drennon Christian Church.

 

She is survived by on son, Lin Powell and his wife, Sandy, of New Castle; two daughters: Sally Bond Lowery and her husband, Michael, Ft. Myers, FL and Martha Willoughby, Jeffersonville, IN; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be Friday, June 17th at 2 p.m. at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home, officiated by Lin Powell.  Interment will be in the New Castle Cemetery.

Pearl Duncan Powell, 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at LaGrange.

Minnie Powell

 

Minnie Arnold Powell, 88, of Eminence, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.  She was retired from Brunswick after 20 years of service, a member of the Eminence Baptist Church and the daughter of the late James Lego and Bessie Booth Arnold.

 

She is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Ken (Nancy) Heightchew, New Castle; one son: Jimmy Powell, Birmingham, AL; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Powell.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 24th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Michael Duncan, pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, will officiate.  Interment will be in the Eminence Cemetery.

Thomas Powell

 

Mr. Thomas L. Powell, 74, of Pendleton, died Tuesday, October 22, 1985, at the Baptist East Hospital, Louisville.  He was a native of Trimble County, a retired farmer, and a member and trustee of the Sligo Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Thelma Clifford Powell, Pendleton; three sons: Gene Powell, Bedford, Billy Powell, Pendleton and Jerry Powell, Bedford; one brother: Raymond Powell, Bedford; one sister: Mrs. Laura Moore, Pendleton and five grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 25th at the Sligo Baptist Church.

Mary Prather

 

Mary Belle Prather, age 84, of Eminence, died Monday, January 22, 2007, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.  Daughter of the late Jordan and Susan Jan Smithers Hawkins, she was a member of the Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church in New Castle.

 

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two sisters: Evadna Horton and Zelma True.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 25th at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Duncan, pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

“Rex” Reginald Lang Prather

 

“Rex” Reginald Lang Prather, of New Castle, was born January 21, 1919 in Woodford County, the son of the late William Thomas and Mayme Ada Greene Prather.  He was married to the late Ellene Martin Stewart Prather for 59 years.

 

He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was a Lieutenant in the US Navy during WWII.  He was retired as Vice-President of Guardsman Chemicals, after which he served as Mayor and City Councilman of New Castle for many years.  He was a member of the New Castle First Baptist Church for over 50 years.

 

Rex passed away on  Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville at the age of 86.

 

He is survived by his four children: Mrs. Thomas (Sarah Martin) Haydon, Troy, OH, Mrs. David (Marty) Stahl, New Castle, Stewart Lang (Deborah) Prather, Louisville and Donald T. Prather, Shelbyville; his brother: William Thomas Prather, New Castle; two sisters: June Rolph and Martha Jean Cox, Versailles; his grandchildren: Mrs. Mike (Beth Haydon) Collins, Mrs. Mike (Amy Haydon) Sizemore, Leslie Coomes, Mrs. Jeff (Stephanie Coomes) Stone, Christopher Stahl, Graham, Katherine and Gregory Prather, Virginia, Martin and Anne Prather, and his great-grandchildren: David and Rachel Collins, Sarah Sizemore and Jackson Stone.

 

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 13th, at 2:30 p.m. at the New Castle First Baptist Church.  Dr. David Charlton, pastor of the New Castle First Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.  Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle, was in charge of arrangements.

Wilson Prather

 

Wilson (Bill) Prather, 80, of Eminence, died Saturday, October 1st 1983, at his residence.

He was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Church, New Castle.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Mary B. Prather, Eminence; one daughter: Naomi Davis, Nokomis, FL; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Roy Prather, Perma, OH and Charlie Prather, LaGrange; two sisters: Nellie Richardson, Eminence and Mrs. Mattie Hedges, LaGrange.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 3rd at the Calvary Apostolic Church, New Castle.  Rev. Jesse Foree and Rev. Paul Perry, officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.  Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence, was in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Cecil Pratt

 

Mrs. Lillian Cecil Pratt died October 2, 1991 after a brief illness.  She was born June 14, 1905, in Moorefield, KY, the daughter of Rufus Edward Blount and Nannie Dee Wilson Blount.  In 1921, Mrs. Pratt graduated from Midway College in Midway, KY.  She then attended a business school in Louisville until her marriage to Clifford Pratt in 1923 when they moved to Oklahoma. 

 

Funeral services were held Friday, October 4th, from the chapel of Pace Funeral Home.  Interment followed in the Restland Memorial Park.

 

Survivors include two daughters: Rose Dee Smith of Campbellsburg and Edythe Ann Smith of Livingston; four grandchildren: Isaac Key Smith, Louisville, Lillian Ann Arbogast, Bowling Green, Robert Mark Smith, Livingston and Frederick Micahel Smith, Livingston.

 

Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Louise Preston, 50, of Bethlehem, died Wednesday, September 11, 1985, at the Humana Hospital University, Louisville. 

 

She is survived by Teddy Beckham, Bethlehem; one daughter: Bertie Sharp, Louisville; one son: William Preston: Carrollton; one grandson; one brother: Bill Little, Vevay, IN; three sisters: Mrs. Katherine Knox, Bedford, Mrs. Josephine Harmon, Dallas, TX and Mrs. Helen Richards, Martinsburg, IN.

 

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 14th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Eugene Webster officiated.  Interment was in the Point Pleasant Cemetery.

Mrs. Mae Masterson Preston, 78, of Route 2, Pleasureville, died Friday, December 8, 1989 at her residence.  She was a member of the Point Pleasant Christian Church

 

She is survived by her husband: Bruce Preston, Route 2, Pleasureville; eight daughters: Katherine Ricketts, Springfield, Mrs. Sam (Frances) Grigsby, Eminence, Mrs. Garnett (Louise) Gardner, Campbellsburg, Mrs. Lois Chilton, Campbellsburg, Mrs. Hardin (Virginia) Watkins, Tell City, IN,  Mrs. Margaret Moberly, Eminence, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Martin, Eminence, and Mrs. Ronnie (Bonnie) Kidwell, Eminence; four sons: Estill “Buck” Preston, Tobinsport, IN,  Harvey Preston, New Castle, Jessie Preston, Bethlehem and Johnny Preston, Pleasureville; two sisters: Mrs. Emma Preston, LaGrange and Mrs. Merle (Nellie) Knight, Hammond, IN; forty-three grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 11th at the Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Scott Hamric, pastor of the Franklinton Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Point Pleasant Cemetery.

Tara Jo Preston

 

Tara Jo Preston, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Wayne Preston, New Castle, died suddenly here Friday, Febraury 8, 1985.

 

Other survivors are her grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rice, Eminence, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Robinson, Corbin and Mr. and Mrs. David Preston, Sulphur; great-grandparents: Mrs. Emma Preston, New Castle, Mrs. Lillie Watkins, New Castle and Mrs. Lewis Rice, Owenton.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11th from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Dr. Clayton Klingenfus, pastor of the New Castle Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Frank Prewitt

 

Frank Prewitt, 90, of Eminence, died Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at the Baptist Hospital Northeast.  He was the son of the late Cecil and Susie Tye Prewitt and a member and past deacon of the Eminence Baptist Church.  During WWII he spent three years in Costa Rica building the Pan-American Highway.

 

He is survived by his wife: Helen Prewitt, Eminence; one daughter: Mrs. Edwin (Ilene) Coombs, Summerfield, FL; two sons: Eddie Prewitt, Eminence and Bobby Prewitt, Frankfort; two step-sons: Bobby Erwin, Eminence and John Roberts, New Castle; one step-daughter: Mrs. Dale (Barbara) Whitaker, Smithfield; four sisters: Mrs. Curtis (Euna) Smith, Eminence, Sarah Mings, LaGrange, Mrs. Ed (Grace) Nowak, Windham, Connecticut and Mrs. Jim (Barbara) Cornett, Show Low, AZ; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Prewitt, two sisters and two brothers.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 3rd at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Michael Duncan, pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Libby McManis, pastor of the Pleasureville Christian Church.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Josephine Prewitt

 

Josephine Shuck Prewitt, 92, of New Castle, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 19, 2006.  She was the daughter of the late Omar and Sallie Roberts Shuck and wasretired after 36 years of service from the Henry County Health Department.  She was a member of the New Castle Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher.

 

She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Stephens, Port Ludlow, WA, Mrs. Chuck (Kay) Ledbetter, Charlestown, IN and Gay Prewitt, New Castle; five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Prewitt, Sr.; her son, Billy Prewitt, Jr.; one sister and one brother.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22nd at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Dr. David Charlton, pastor of the New Castle First Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Richard Stephens.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Billy Prewitt, Jr., 63, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004. 

 

Survivors include his wife: Betty Ogden Prewitt, New Castle; his daughter: Jorene;

his son: Guy Prewitt and his parents:  Mr. and Mrs. William “Bill” Prewitt, Sr.

 

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30th, at the Henry Christian Church.  Rev. Michael Duncan officiated, assisted by Rev. Carl Rucker, Rev. Robert Fields, Dr. David Charlton and Rev. Nick Coleman.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

William G. “Bill” Prewitt, Sr.

 

William G. “Bill” Prewitt, Sr., 93, of New Castle, passed away Friday, July 19, 2005, at the Hospice Center at Baptist Northeast in LaGrange.  He was a native of Shelby County.  He moved to Henry County in 1942 and worked for McCarty Funeral Home for nine years, then forming Shannon Prewitt Funeral Home in 1953.  It became independent in 1960 as Prewitt Funeral Home at its current location.  He was a member and former board member of the New Castle Christian Church and a former member and deacon of the New Castle Baptist Church.  He was the son of the late John William and Verna (Cox) Prewitt.

 

He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Josephine (Shuck) Prewitt, New Castle; three daughters: Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Stephens, Port Ludlow, WA, Mrs. Chuck (Kay) Ledbetter, Charlestown, IN and Ms. Gay Prewitt, New Castle; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be today (Wednesday, August 3rd) at 1 p.m. at Henry Christian Church, officiated by Dr. Clayton Klingenfus, pastoral staff of Southeast Christian Church, assisted by Rev. Nick Coleman, associate minister at Henry Christian Church, Rev. Carl Rucker, pastor of the Port Royal Baptist Church, Dr. Dave Charlton, Pastor of the New Castle First Baptist Church and Rev. Anthony Pierce, pastor of the New Castle Christian Church.  Interment will be in the New Castle Cemetery.

Viola Creech Prewitt

 

Mrs. Viola Creech Prewitt, 89, died Sunday, February 24, 1985, at the Garrard County Memorial Hospital.  She was a native of Clay County; a former Garrard County school teacher, a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and a charter member of the Nina Homemakers.

 

She is survived by her husband: Cameron C. Prewitt; two daughters: Mrs. Herald (Ruth) Sebastian and Mrs. Thomas (Mildred) Carey, both of Lancaster; one son: James T. Prewitt, New Castle; two brothers: Edgar Creech, St. Petersburg, FL and Allen Creech, Bayonne, NJ; three grandchildren: David Herald Sebastian, US Air Force in New Mexico, Anna Margaret Shaw, Georgia and Charles Edward Prewitt, New Orleans, LA

And three great-grandchildren: Angela Sebastian and Lee and Beth Prewitt.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 26th at Ramsey Funeral Home.  Rev. William G. Humphrey officiated.  Interment was in the Lancaster Cemetery.

Ben Nathan Price, 60, (June 22, 1914 – April 5, 1974) of Wilmington, Delaware, formerly of Henry County, died Friday at 7 p.m. in the Delaware Hospital in Wilmington.

Mrs. Ella Thompson Price, 71, of Middletown, widow of N. T. Price, died at 12:50 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 1951, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Louisville.  The daughter of William and Virginia Ratcliff Thomasson, she was a native of Shelby County.

 

Survivors are three daughters: Mrs. Emmett Thompson, New Castle, Mrs. Lee Ensminger and Mrs. Howard Taylor, Middletown; three sons: William Price, James C. Price and Virgil Price, all of near Middletown.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 22nd at the First Baptist Church of Middletown by Rev. George Hall and Rev. Dan C. Moore.  Burial was in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Harold Randall Price, 23, of Pleasureville, was killed in an auto accident, Tuesday, January 1, 1985 in Shelby County.  He was employed with the Jerry Imel Construction Company and was a member of the Turners Station Baptist Church.

Joe Price, 41, (1904-1944) was found dead on the side of the road at the top of the Gratz Hill in Henry County, Saturday morning.  Coroner Henry D. Ricketts pronounced death due to a heart attack.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Cemetery Hill Church, with Rev. Roud Shaw officiating.  Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Mrs. Sadie Doane Price, 57, of Eminence, died Monday, February 25, 1985, at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville.  She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the Eminence Baptist Church.

Charles “Pete” T. Proctor, 70, of Campbellsburg, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at his residence.  He was a retired carpenter and mechanic, and the son of the late Harry and alice Farley Proctor.

 

He is survived by his wife: Jean A. Proctor, Campbellsburg; seven sons: Carl T. Proctor, Scottsburg, IN, Edward Proctor, Milton, Randy Smith, Campbellsburg, Darrin Smith, Pleasureville, Mark Smith, Boyne, IN, Jacob Smith and Jeremy Smith, both of Eminence; three daughters: Carolyn Beatty, Scottsburg, IN, Marsha Thompson, Hanover, IN and Penny Stearns, Madison, IN; two brothers: Bill Obie Proctor, Carrollton and Robert L. Proctor, Campbellsburg; one sister: Mildred “Millie” Harmon, Bedford; twenty-two grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Lee Proctor, one brother and one grandson.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15th at Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford.  Pastor Larry Franklin officiated.  Burial was in the Bedford I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Ellie Pruitt

 

Mrs. Ellie Pruitt, 72, (188_-1958) Sulphur, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at her home.  She was a member of the Sulphur Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include: one daughter: Mrs. Bessie Sears, Greenwood, IN; two sons: Felix Pruitt, Indianapolis, IN and Raymond Pruitt, Sligo; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. Etta Miskell, New Castle, Mrs. Mattie Kidwell, Sligo and Mrs. Nellie Coons, Prospect.

 

Funeral services were conducted by W. A. McCarty Funeral Directors at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sulphur Baptist Church.  The Rev. Don Gillis officiated.  Following the funeral service, the body was removed to the Louisville Crematory where the remains were cremated.  The cremated remains were buried Thursday in the Sulphur Cemetery.

Alvin N. Pyron, 70, of Louisville, died Tuesday, July 26, 1983 at the Veterans Hospital, Louisville.  He was a native of Mt. Vernon, Texas; a retired farmer, an Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Methodist Church.

Mrs. Ida P/Pryor, 85, of Route 1, Turners Station, died Wednesday, April 10 at the Jewish Hospital, Louiville.  She was formerly of Sebring, FL and a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by one son, Edgar M. “Buddy” Pryor, Turners Station; two grandsons: Dr. E. M. Pryor, Campbellsburg and Tim Pryor, Turners Station and two great grandchildren.

 

The body was cremated and memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, april 13th, from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Dr. Clayton Klingenfus, pastor of the New Castle Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Jordon Muncey Pryor, infant son of Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Pryor, II died Wednesday, April 4, 1984 at the Norton’s-Children’s Hospital, Louisville.

Carl Puckett

 

Carl B. Puckett, 73, of Eminence, formerly of Winchester, died Thursday, January 20, 1994 at his residence after an extended illness.

 

A native of Clark County, he was the son of the late Owen and Mollie Hall Puckett.  He was owner of the Puckett Insurance/Real Estate Agency in Eminence since 1955.  He was an elder of the Eminence Christian Church and a veteran of WWII. 

 

He is survived by his wife: Joyce Stivers Puckett, Eminence; one son: Bradley M. Puckett, Eminence; five brothers: Clarence, Virgil and Bill, all of Winchester, Omer and Linville Puckett, both of Lexington; two sisters: Mrs. Russell (Ida) Chism and Mrs. Joe R. (Elizabeth) Lightner, both of Winchester; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Lloyd Puckett, 63, Eminence, died Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at home.  He was born in Oldham County to the late Lincoln and Alpha (Powell) Puckett, Sr.

 

He is survived by two sisters: Lee Delahanty and Yvonne Dawson, both of Pendleton; a brother: Lincoln Puckett, Jr., Henry County; three sons: Jason Puckett and James Puckett, both of Trimble County and  Shane Puckett, New Castle; two daughters: Angie Crecelius, Shelbyville and Teka Lynn Hawkins, Tampa, FL; and five grandchildren.  Two brothers preceded him in death.  The body will be cremated.  Ransdell Funeral Home, Eminence, is in charge of arrangements.

Homer “Waff” Purvis, 77, of Eminence, died Friday, March 2, 2007, in Louisville.  Son of the late Homer Clark Purvis, Sr., and Hazel Crawford Purvis, he was retired from the Reformatory as a prison guard.

 

He is survived by his wife: Betty Jean Purvis, Eminence; two daughters: Diane L. Clark and husband, Ronnie, Eminence and Nancy J. Rainey and husband, Mike, Louisville; three brothers: Dan Purvis, Indianapolis, IN, Jesse Purvis, Madison, IN and Calvin Mahoney, California; one sister: Molly Lou Louden, Sulphur; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary “Cissy” Roberts.

He is survived by his mother: Mamie Whitaker Purvis, New Castle; a sister: Mrs. David (Judy) Wilson, Shelbyville; two half-brothers: Billy Ray Purvis and Jackie Purvis, both of Eminence; a nephew: Jason Smith, Smithfield and an uncle: Chester Whitaker, Dallas, TX.

Oscar Purvis

 

Mr. Oscar Purvis, passed away at his home near Lacie, Sunday, January 1, 1928.  He leaves two sisters, one brother and a mother.  His father died some time ago.  He made his home with his mother up until the time of his death.  He was very good and kind to her.

 

He was to have been married to Miss Joe M. Roberts, daughter of Marshall Roberts on the 1st of February.  He lived a Christian life and was a hard worker all his life and will be missed by many friends whose hearts are made glad by that hope that is extended to all Christians of meeting in another world hereafter.

 

Funeral services were held and burial was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Mattie L. Pyles

 

Mrs. Mattie L. Pyles, 70, (March 6, 1864 – April 6, 1934) wife of J. B. Pyles, was found dead in bed, Friday at her home near Smithfield.  She was born March 6, 1864.

 

Besides her husband she is survived by two brothers: Zach LaMaster and Ben LaMaster and seven children: Mrs. R. C. Montfort, Weldon Hill, Charley Hill, Orrin Hill, Leslie Hill, Marshall Hill and Mrs. George Wills.  Fourteen grandchildren also survive.

 

Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery.

Thomas Jefferson Pyles

 

Mr. Thomas Jefferson Pyles, 94,  died September 2, 1902, near Adcock, in Carroll County, and was buried Thursday morning, September 4th in old Sulphur Fork graveyard, near here.

 

“Uncle Tommy” was ninety-four the day of his death, having been born September 2, 1808.  He, of course, had lived during the administration of all our presidents save two, and was named for our third president.  He has a host of relatives in this county and in Carroll who mourn the loss of this aged man.
