Inez Adams, 85, of New Castle, died Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Homestead Nursing Center in new Castle.  She was the daughter of the late Willie and Elizabeth Jones Robertson.

 

She is survived by one son: Gary Wayne Adams of Murfreesboro, TN.

 

Graveside services were held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 15th at the New Castle Cemetery.  Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home was in charge of  arrangements.

Shirley Adams

 

Shirley Ann Adams, 64, of Pleasureville, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Leona Chisholm Adams.

 

She is survived by her husband: Pete Adams, Pleasureville; and one daughter: Patricia Ritchey, Eminence.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29th, at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville.  Rev. Andy Hancock, pastor of the Orville Baptist Church, and Rev. Dan Taylor, Pastor of the Grub Ridge Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Grub Ridge Cemetery.

Cathy Wibbels Auxier, 51, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in Louisville.

 

She is survived by her husband: Anthony L. “Tony” Auxier; daughter: Ella Nicole Auxier, both of Shelbyville and one son: Timothy Robert “Timmy” Auxier, Louisville.

 

Memorial services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7th at Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.

Mrs. Ruth R. Aynes, 48, died on July 5, 1967 in Louisville. 

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 7th at the Adkins – Radcliffe Funeral Home in LaGrange.  Rev. Charles Card officiated.

 

Interment was in the Smithfield Cemetery.

William Bailey

 

William Allen Bailey, 81, formerly of Eminence, died Tuesday. May 25, 2010, at Hosparus in Louisville.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.

 

He is survived by his daughter: Margaret Penick, Louisville, and one son, Ronnie Bailey.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 29th, at Hathaway and Clark Funeral Home.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Ora Barton

 

Ora Elizabeth “Ippie” Roberts Barton, 87, of Taylorsville, died Sunday, September 12, 2010, in Shelbyville.  Born in Henry County on September 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ora Lee and Rachel Casey Roberts and the widow of Ira Glenn Barton.  Mrs. Barton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Taylorsville.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Rowe, and five sisters.

 

She is survived by her son: Ira Lee “Tex” Barton (Pat), Springfield; her daughter: Glenora Pace (William), Mt. Eden; three grandsons: Michael Pace (Tray), Taylorsville; Rob Pace, Willisburg and Chris Barton (Ginger), Lawrenceburg; a granddaughter: Beth Ellen Weakley (Willie) Willisburg, great-grandsons: Samuel, Jamie and Zachary Pace, all of Smithfield; Nathan Pace, Taylorsville and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 15th, at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home in Shelbyville.  Tex Barton and Chris Barton officiated.  Interment was in the Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington.

James S. Bate, Jr.

 

James S. Bate, Jr., 59, died at 11:45 p.m., Sunday, September 5, 1960.  He was born in Henry County at Locust Hill Farm near Smithfield.

 

He is survived by his wife:  Eugenia Harris Bate, Louisville.  Mr. Bate directed the Income Tax  Division of the Internal Revenue Service for Kentucky during the 1930’s and 1940’s. 

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. September 7that Pearson’s Funeral Home in Louisville.  Burial was at 12:30 p.m. in the family lot at the Smithfield Cemetery.

Charles W. Bauer

 

Charles W. Bauer, 76 (1876 – 1952), owner and operator of the Halcyon Hotel, farmer and extensive property owner at Eminence, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon.  He had been to the Henry County Clinic in the morning and returned to the hotel.  He went to the furnace room and while returning to his room via the back stairs evidently suffered a heart attack and fell.  He was dead on the stairway when found by Mayor A. N. Miles.

 

He came to Eminence in 1898 from Cincinnati, starting as an employee in the drug store there then operated by George McRoberts.  Shortly after starting to work there he opened a jewelry sales and repair department in the store.  He later bought the store and operated it for several years.  He gradually accumulated property in Eminence and at the time of his death he was owner of a string of buildings on the East side of Main Street, opposite the L & N passenger depot which connect throughout with the Halcyon Hotel.

 

He was graduated in 1897 from the noted Chicago Optical College.  In 1899 he graduated from the Cincinnati Pharmaceutical College.  He owned a store in New Castle for several years after the turn of the century.  The New Castle store was operated by a brother, Edward C. Bauer.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Grace Ellis Bauer, and a son: Charles W. Bauer, Jr., both of Cincinnati; two daughters: Mrs. Robert Schlie, Smithfield and Mrs. C. W. Cyl-Champlin, Louisville; a sister: Mrs. Stanley Wilson, Phoenix, AZ; two brothers: Louis Bauer and Edward Bauer, both of Brownsville, Texas.

 

The Ricketts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  A short graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. at the grave in the Eminence Cemetery.

Evelyn Beckley

 

Evelyn Thomas Beckley, 93, of Frankfort, formerly of Lockport, died Thursday, August 5, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.  She was the daughter of the late Mike and Emma Thomas.

 

She is survived by one brother: Estill Thomas, Sr., of Pleasureville.

 

Cremation was chosen.  A memorial service was held on Sunday August 15th at 3:00 p.m. at the Lockport Methodist Church.  Clark Funeral Home in Versailles was in charge of arrangements.

Melodye Heightchew Beckley

 

Melodye Heightchew Beckley, 39, of Eminence, died Monday, March 22, 2010.  Melodye was formerly employed at PBI Bank in Pleasureville and Farmer’s Deposit Bank in Eminence.  She was a member of the Forks of the Elkhorn Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her mother’ Marilyn Moore Heightchew.

 

She is survived by one son: Jakob Trent Beckley and his father, Bill, of Pleasureville and father, Paul Dean Heightchew of Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Todd Lester, Pastor of Forks of the Elkhorn Baptist Church, officiated; assisted by Rev. Dawn Montgomery and J. T. Stinson.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Marjorie Berry

 

Marjorie Hall Berry, 88, of Port Royal, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Homestead Nursing Center in New Castle.  Daughter of the late Louis and Irene Fields Hall, Marjorie retired as Cottage Parent at the Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville, after 15 years of faithful service and was a member of the English Christian Church.

 

She is survived by two sons: Gilbert M. Berry and his wife, Priscilla, Gainesville, FL and Charles L. Berry and his wife, Donna, Lacie; six granddaughters and fourteen great0grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Berry and her brother, John Hall.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 2nd, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Bro. Keith Miller of the English Christian Church officiated.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Russell Beverly

 

Russell Howard “Butsie” Beverly, 88, of Bethlehem, died Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.  He was born September 17, 1922, in Henry County, the son of Marvin and Lucille Hackett Beverly.  Mr. Beverly retired from General Electric in Louisville and farmed after retirement.  He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of the Lockport United Methodist Church since he was nine years old.

 

He is survived by his wife: Ida Dale Beverly, Bethlehem; one son: Frank James Beverly, Bethlehem; two sisters: Alma Casey, Kilgore, TX and Wilma Parrish, Lockport; two grandchildren: Jessica Ray Beverly and Russell James Beverly, both of Bethlehem and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one son: Russell Howard Beverly, Jr., one brother: James Albert Beverly and one sister: Elaine Beverly Moore.

 

Funeral services were held October 6th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Don Hatton officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

James C. Bickers

 

James C. Bickers, 93, of Carrollton, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.  Son of the late Shelby, Sr. and Myrtle Tingle Bickers, he was a farmer and worked 40 years for the Golden Burley Warehouse.  He was a mail carrier for 30 years in Henry County.  He was a member of the Campbellsburg United Methodist Church. He was preceded by two brothers: Everett Sr. and Andrew Paul Bickers.

 

He is survived by his wife: Lucille Jennings Bickers, Carrollton; one sister: Margaret Staudt, Ft. Myers, FL; one brother: Shelby S. Bickers, Jr., Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12th at the Carrollton IOOF Cemetery.  Rev. Carl Rucker officiated.  Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

George Blades

 

George W. Blades, 93, of Eminence, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.  He was the son of the late Joseph and Maude Hall Blades.

 

He is survived by three daughters: Mary Miles and Dorothy Watson, both of Eminence and Shirley Mumphrey, Louisville.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 24th, At Eminence First Baptist Church.  Rev. Charles Duncan, Jr. officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.  Prewitt Eminence Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Kalusy Bohannon

 

Elizabeth Kalusy Bohannon, 73, of Eminence, died at 8:20 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Broyles, near Smithfield.  She was a member of the Old Home Rebekah Lodge No. 16, Eminence. 

 

Survivors include two other daughters: Mrs. Ernest Tingle, New Castle and Mrs. Kenneth Bickers, Evansville, IN; two sisters: Mrs. John Smither and Mrs. Will Githerman, Carrollton and a half brother, Ora Willhoite, Muncie, IN. 

 

The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. at the Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence.  Burial was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Virginia Kent Gibbs Bond, 90, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at her residence.

 

She is survived by three sons: Jimmy Gibbs, Finchville, Cecil Gibbs, Taylorsville and Kenny Gibbs, Bagdad.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27th, at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville.  Interment was in the Simpsonville Cemetery.

Linnie Sams Bowser, 66, of Churchill, TN, died Friday, February 25, 2010 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.  A native of Lockport, she was born October 9, 1943, to the late William and Mary Sams.

 

She is survived by one daughter: Deanna Gullotta (Tony) of San Diego, CA; one son: Robert Jennings, Reno, NV; two grandsons; one sister: Emma Parrish Biever, Frankfort; three brothers: Donald Sams, New Castle, George Sams, Lawndale, CA and Louis Red Sams, Frankfort.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay; two sisters: Louanna Bell and Bessie Prather and two brothers: Johnny Sams and Jamers Pete Sams.

 

Cremation was chosen.

Pearl Margaret Byrd, 86, of Sulphur, died September 15, 2010, at Baptist Northeast Hospital in LaGrange.  She was the daughter of the late Otis Smith and Azora Jackson Smith.

 

She is survived by three children: David W. Byrd and Delcie Powell, both of Sulphur and Dallas Drury, Campbellsburg.

Hildred Stewart Carpenter

 

Hildred Stewart Carpenter, 90, of New Castle, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Baptist Northeast Hospital.  Daughter of the late Claude and Effie Allen Stewart, she was a homemaker and a member of the Oldham Woods Church of Christ in LaGrange.

 

She is survived by her daughter: Pat Watson and husband, Henry, Jr., Mt. Washington; one son: Mike Carpenter and wife, Linda, Huntsville, AL; daughter-in-law: Rhonda Carpenter, Smithfield; one brother: Herman Stewart, Portland, OR; grandchildren: Toni Hall, Micah Horn, Ronnie Lovell, Brandon Lovell, Charity Peterworth, Matthew Watson, Dwana and Daniella Doane; and twelve great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband: George Earl Carpenter, Sr., and one son: George Earl Carpenter, Jr.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 13th, at Prewitt’s New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev Rick Holladay, pastor of the Greenville United Methodist Church officiated.  Interment was in the Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

Baldomero Galinda Castro, 41, of Pleasureville, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at his residence.  He is the son of the late Ricarda Castro and served in the Mexican Army.

 

He is survived by his father: Baldomero Galinda; his wife: Donna Phillips Castro; two stepchildren: Gustave Lopez, Jr. and Angela Lopez.

Jesse “Buster” Chisholm

 

Jesse D. “Buster” Chisholm, 79, of New Castle, Died Tuesday, September 14th, 2010, at the Homestead Nursing Center in New Castle.  Son of the late Jesse and Virginia Head Chisholm, he was a U. S. Marine Veteran.  Buster was a member of the New Castle First Baptist Church for more than 60 years.  He was preceded in death by a brother: James Richard Chisholm and one sister: Jennie Chisholm Purvis.

 

He is survived by his wife: Alma James Chisholm, New Castle; one daughter: Kimi Vaughn and husband, Kevin, New Castle; one son: Tony Chisholm and wife, Alicia, Campbellsburg; one sister: Dorothy R. Chisholm, Birmingham, AL; and four grandchildren: Jesse, Alex, Jacob and Ariel and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A. M., Friday, September 17th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Dr. David Charlton of Shelbyville officiated and Rev. Nick Coleman assisted.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Shirley Montgomery Clark, 70, of Eminence, died Friday, May 21, 2010, at Flaget Hospital in Bardstown.  Daughter of the late J. T. and Susie Greer Montgomery, she was a member of the Henry Christian Church.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Karen Wentworth, Bethlehem and Susie Kingsolver, Chaplin; one son: Earl Joseph Clark, Pendleton; two sisters: Betty Jean Clark, Shelbyville and Barbara McDaniel, Frankfort; one brother: John T. Montgomery, Bagdad; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Earl Clark.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 24th, at the Henry Christian Church.  Rev. Ed Berry, Pastor of the Henry Christian Church officiated, assisted by Bro. Van Combs, Jr., 77 of Elmburg, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at his residence.  He was the son of the late Van and Eunice Hall Combs, a native of Perry County and a farmer.

 

He is survived by two daughters: Audrey Way, Pleasureville and Barbara Coons (Lou), LaGrange; one brother: Robert Combs (Trish), Louisville; one sister: Jane Wilson (Chester), Cadiz; three grandchildren: Chad McGowan(Kristie), Jennifer Whitaker and Clint Marlette; five great-grandchildren: Paige Whitaker, Hannah Whitaker, Lexi Barnes, Kayleigh McGowan and Chandler McGowan and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Margaret Downey Combs, three brothers: Fred, Farris and John Combs and two sisters: Louise Brewer and Irene Castro.

Dorothy G. Cox, 86, of new Castle, died on May 15, 2010.  She was the daughter of the late Cammie and Clara Gaines Cox and U. S. Navy Veteran.

Paul Stanley Cox, III, infant, of Pleasureville, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at University Hospital.

 

He is survived by his parents: Joanna Marie Harp and Paul Stanley Cox, Jr., both of Pleasureville; grandparents: Mary and Dannie Cox, Shelbyville and Donna Sue Winans of Jonesville.

 

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a. m., Tuesday, July 20th, at Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Darlene Jarrett Crask

 

Darlene Jarrett Crask, 60, of Campbellsburg, formerly of Louisville, died Saturday, May 9, 2010, in LaGrange at the Baptist Hospital Northeast.  Darlene was born on September 12, 1949, in Louisville to the late Leland O. Jarrett and Mary Louise Stout Jarrett.  She graduated from Fern Creek High School.  She retired as an administrative specialist for juvenile justice.  She was a member of the Watterson Trail Church of Christ. 

 

She is survived by her husband: Roland Crask, Jr., Campbellsburg; two children: Candie Webster and her husband, Troy, Lockport and Amy Crask May and her husband, Mark, Shelbyville; her mother: Mary Louise Stout Jarrett, Louisville; one sister: Anita Jarrett Isenberg, Louisville; and two grandchildren: Noah and Zachary Webster.  She was preceded in death by her father, father-in-law: Roland Crask, Sr., and mother-in-law: Mary McAlister Crask.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 12th, at Ransdell Funeral Home in Campbellsburg.  Rev. Carl Rucker officiated.  Interment was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

Roy N. Davis, 79, of Eminence, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in Louisville.  He was retired from vehicle enforcement with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and was the son of the late Herman Samuel Davis and Mary Ethel McClain Davis.

 

He is survived by his wife: Betty Tipton Davis, Eminence; one son: Stephen Davis, Eminence; one step-daughter: Tracye Reiland (Paul), Memphis, TN; Two step-grandsons: Jonathan Morgan Reiland and Brendan Reiland, both of Memphis, TN; two brothers: W. Mac Davis, Lawrenceville, IL and Ray Wallace Davis, Shelbyville; and one sister: Geneva Whisman, Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 17th, at Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Bro. Arvil Duncan officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery.

Edward Denham

 

Edward Newell Denham, 60, of Pleasureville, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.  He was the son of Leslie and Wilma Young Denham.

 

He is survived by his wife: Rhonda Martin, Pleasureville; and two daughters: Leslie and Laura Denham, Pleasureville.

 

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Sholar funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Paul Briscoe, pastor of the Lockport Baptist Church and Charles Denham officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Robert Dixie

 

Robert Alexander Dixie, 82, of Eminence, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.  He was the son of the late Leroy and Sarah Morgan Dixie.

 

He is survived by five sisters: Lillie Dixie, Carolyn Payne and Betty Dixie, all of Eminence, Pearl Robinson, LaGrange and Rose Hernandez, Pleasureville, and John Dixie, Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 22nd, at the Main Street Baptist Church.  Pastor Meredith Trabue officiated.  Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jasper Downey, Sr.

 

Jasper Downey, Sr., 85, of Pleasureville, formerly of Louisville, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the VA Medical Center, Louisville.  He was the son of the late Marvin D. and Ida Bell Maupins Downey and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his wife : Frances Louise Downey, Pleasureville; four sons: Jasper Downey, Jr., Larry Downey and Wayne Downey, all of Louisville an Jasper Downey III of Pleasureville; four daughters: Diane Bolin, Laura Watts, Connie Wolfe and Toni Rucker, all of Louisville.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev Terry True officiated.  Interment was in St. Stephens Cemetery, Louisville.

Neville Downey

 

Neville Downey, 88, of Frankfort, died Monday, May 31, 2010.  He was a U. S. Navy and WWII Veteran.

 

He is survived by his wife: Marjorie O’Nan Downey, Frankfort; and one daughter: Judy Tincher, Frankfort.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 4th at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.  John Underwood, Pastor of the Pleasant View Methodist Church officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery with military honors.

Marion Watkins Drane

 

Mrs. Marion Watkins Drane, 76, of Smithfield, widow of William Drane, died September 18, 1852 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.  She is survived by a son: Capt. Lail Drane, Japan; a brother: Richard Watkins, president of the Smithfield Milling Company; and two sisters: Mrs. Etta Pyle, Winter Haven, FL and Mrs. G. E. Hill, Louisville.

 

The funeral was held at 3:00 p.m. on September 21 at the Smithfield Cemetery.

George Donald “Donnie” Drury, 63, of Campbellsburg, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange.  He was the son of the late George Oliver Drury and Clara Harmon Drury.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

 

He is survived by his wife: Harlina Hammons Drury; two sons: Bobby and Steve Drury and one daughter: April Drury, Texas.

 

Funeral services were held at noon, Tuesday, February 23rd at Ransdell Funeral Home.  Rev, Russell McCane officiated.

Charles C. Duncan

 

Charles C. Duncan, 76, died at 6:45 a.m. at the Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville.  He was a native of Henry County and was a machinist for Sheu and Kniss machine shop.

 

He is survived by his widow: the former Ricca Ormes; a daughter: Mrs. William Beasey, Shelbyville and four grandchildren.

 

The funeral was held at the O. D. White & Sons Funeral Home, Louisville, at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Sylvia H. Ellis, 89, of Pleasureville, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Homestead Nursing Center in New Castle.  She was the daughter of the late Joe and Bessie Slatterly Henderson.

 

She is survived by two sons: Glenn Lee Ellis, Lexington and Danny R. Ellis, Pleasureville.

Elizabeth M. Farkas, 78, of Eminence, died Tuesday, July 17, 2010, at the Kindred Hospital in Louisville.  Daughter of the later Anthony and Mary Papp Glock, she was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

 

She is survived by her husband: Joe Farkas, Eminence; one daughter: Heidi Naud and husband, Peter, Erie, PA; and two grandchildren: Jacqueline and Nathaniel Naud of Erie, PA.

 

Funeral mass was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 30th, at St. John’s Chrysostom Church in Eminence.  Father John Perez officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Dorothy Ann Fetter

 

Dorothy Ann Fetter, 87, of Louisville, died Monday, August 2, 2010, at Homestead Nursing Center in New Castle.  Daughter of the late Virgil Richie and Pauline French Ellis, she was a native of Princeton, IN and a member of Southeast Christian Church.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Janet Sledge and husband, Dan, Louisville and Debbie Klempner and husband, Andy, New Castle; two sons: Charles Fetter and wife, Sandy, Princeton, NJ and Mark Fetter and wife, Phyllis, Louisville; one sister: Lois Davis, Peoria, AZ; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and half-brothers and sister.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Charles Dewey Fetter.

 

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 3rd at Cave Hill Cemetery.  Dr. Corky Klingenfus officiated.  Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Phillip Fink, 46, of New Castle, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.  He was the son of the late Earl Wayne and Ada Pauline Louden Fink.

 

He is survived by two sisters: Donna Byerly, LaGrange and Sue Corte, Goshen; two brothers: Walter A. Fink, Bedford and Tommy W. Fink, Eminence.

James Henry Fisher, 77, of Lockport, died Saturday, June 19, 2010.  He was born in Henry County, the son of the late Alix and Daphne McAlister Fisher.  He was a farmer and a member of the Lockport Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Jean Fisher, Lockport; two sons: Darrell Wayne (Tina) Fisher, Lockport and Bradley Lynn Fisher, Turners Station; an honorary son Willie Palmer, Lockport; two daughters: Carol Jean (John) Coomes, Eminence and Kimberly Ann (Dan) Ballard, Owenton; one brother: Alix Fisher, Jr., Lockport; three sisters: Barbara Chadwell, Eminence, Nancy Booth, Shelbyville and Patsy Boling, Bagdad; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one brother: Delbert Fisher.

John “Sam” Foree, Sr., 82, of Eminence, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at The Richwood in LaGrange.  He was the son of the late Lester and Mattie Bell Harris Foree.

 

He is survived by his wife: Doris Skidmore Foree, Eminence; four sons: Derek Sleets, Madison, IN, Dannie Foree, Pleasureville, Keevin Foree, Turners Station and John Foree, Jr., Valley Station.

Shirley A. Frazier

 

Shirley A. Frazier, 70, of New Castle, died Saturday, March 6, 2010.  Daughter of the late Janie (King) and Raymond “Jimmy” Streible, she was a member of the Southeast Christian Church.  She attended Sullivan University and Jeff State.  Shirley was an ex-ray technician at Fern Creek Medical Center and a doctor’s assistant for Dr. David Decker in Louisville.

 

She is survived by her husband: Jadie Frazier, New Castle; two sons: Jim Frazier and his wife, Kathy, Dayton, OH and Timothy Wyatt Frazier, Louisville; two sisters: Brenda Smith, Crestwood and Linda Mudd, Centerfield; and five grandchildren: Michael, Kori, Ryan, Shelby and Megan Frazier.

Thomas “Baby Boy” Garner, 23 of Bedford, died Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Baptist Northeast Hospital in LaGrange.  He was the son of the late Thomas Garner, Sr.

 

He is survived by his mother:  Emma Hicks and husband, Lorenzo, Bedford; one sister: Gail Robison, Tampa, FL; five brothers: Thomas Garner and Kevin Garner, both of Tampa, FL; Cleveland William Riley and wife Tiffany and Benjerman Riley, Jr. and  wife LaDondra, both of Bedford; and Ezzie Thomas Garner, Jaken, GA. He was preceded in death by one brother: Richard Carnell.

Tom Gividen, 72, of Sulphur, died Friday, September 24, 2010, at Audubon Hospital, Louisville.  Son of the late Earl and Lucille Joseph Gividen, he was a U. S. Army Veteran.

 

He is survived by two daughters: Beth Hall, New Castle and Marla Jones, Pendleton and one son, Greg Gividen.

James Lee Godbey, 80, of Eminence, died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at his residence.  He was the owner and operator of Godbey’s Wrecker Service for 32 years.  He was a U. S. Army veteran and the son of the late Jack and Gladys Watson Godbey.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Janette Adams.

 

He is survived by his wife: Ann Carrier Godbey; two daughters: Connie Godbey and Kelli Gilbert; two sons: Danny Lee Godbey and Ron Travis; two sisters: Geneva Ruble (Freddie) and Betty Tipton; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Miranda Louise Goodhew, 16, formerly of Perry Park, died Monday, September 20, 2010.  She was a junior at Henry County High School.

 

She is survived by her mother: Maggie Goodhew Bryant; step-father: Marc Bryant; her father: Karl Lindig; grandparents: Ken and Margo Goodhew, Stan and Valerie Bryant and Joe and Cheryl Miller; great-grandparents: Charles and Marie Bailey and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial was said, Thursday, September 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Transfiguration Mission Church in Perry Park.  Revs. Michael Barth, Gerald Reinersman and Kavungal Davy officiated.  A memorial service followed at the Perry Park Golf Resort Restaurant.

Lee “Ed” Hammond, 76, of Eminence, died Monday, May 24, 2010.  Son of the late Ollie and Lorena Cook Hammond, he retired from KSR as a Correctional Officer and was a member of the Harvest Community Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Doris Jane “Dot” Saylor Hammond, Eminence; two daughters: Robin Smith Johnson and husband, Joe III, Louisville and Ginger Smith Rose Gault and husband, Rob, Shelbyville; one brother: Marvin Hammond, Bagdad; two sisters: Lucille Perkinson, Carrollton and Pauline Porter, Corbin; and three grandchildren: Joshua and Jessica Johnson and Callie Rose.  He was preceded in death by two sisters: Lillie Simons and Dorothy Tippett and one brother: Marshall Hammond.

Miss Sarah Williams Harbison, retired school teacher and native of Shelby County, died December 5, 1953 at her home in Shelby County.

 

Survivors include two nieces: Mrs. Robert B. Wilson, Smithfield, and Miss Ellen Dean Harbison, Shelbyville, and a nephew: Andrew L. Harbison, Shelbyville.

Janet Lynn Coleman Harris

 

Janet Lynn Coleman Harris, 58, of Brownsboro, died Monday, August 2, 2010, of breast cancer.  Mrs. Harris was born to Sophie Bernice Park and the late David Plummer Coleman, Jr., on December 6, 1951 in Columbia, SC.  She was a faithful member of the Springdale Community Church and was active in several organizations.

 

Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband of 33 years, State Senator Ernie Harris; her children: Jonathan (Elizabeth) Harris, David (Jennifer) Harris and Anne Harris; her mother: Sophie Coleman; a sister: Mary (Randy) Barnes; a sister-in-law: Lou Ann Coleman; her brother-in-law: and sister-in-law: David and Martha Harris; and four grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her father: D. P. Coleman, Jr., and a brother: David Roe Coleman.

James R. Hawkins, 70, of Shelbyville, formerly of Eminence, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Norton Healthcare Pavilion.  Son of the late James and Lena Blackaby Hawkins, James was a U>S> Army Veteran, serving in Vietnam.  He was a member of the VFW and the Eminence Baptist Church.  James was preceded in death by a brother: John S. Hawkins and one sister: Nancy Hawkins Tipton.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mary Leslie Brierly Hawkins, Shelbyville; on daughter: Jamie Hawkins, Eminence; and grandchildren: Kimberly and Matthew Hawkins.

Mrs. Stella Turner Head, 81, (December 12, 1887 – January 28, 1968) a former resident of Smithfield, died Sunday at her home in San Antonio, TX.  Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence was in charge of arrangements.  The funeral was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery.

Estle Heightchew

 

Estle Heightchew, 88, of Bethlehem, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Owenton Manor.  He was the son of the late Obie and Lora Roberts Heightchew, an independent truck driver, a farmer, a bus driver for the Henry County School system for 125 years and a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by one son: Estle Heightchew, Jr., (Martha), Louisville; three daughters: Brenda Heightchew and Carolyn Heightchew, both of Frankfort and Marie Shultz (Jim), Crystal lake, IL; one brother: Paul Dean Heightchew, Pleasureville; one sister: Roberta Clubb Adcock, Bethlehem; three grandchildren: Jaclyn Gannon, Leah Heightchew and Chris Heightchew; and one great- grandchild: Paige Gannon.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Delmar and Gayle Heightchew.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, march 19th, at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Don Hatton officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Catherine Sue Rupard Helburn, 98, died Sunday, March 28, 2010 in Lexington.  Raised in Clark County, she was the daughter of the late Lillie Tilton and Minor Rupard.  She was a retired teacher.

 

She is survived by her husband of 72 years: Jack; two daughters: Ann (Hank) Hancock, Frankfort and Betty (Ray) Larson, Lexington; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She was a former member of the Eminence Christian Church before joining Central Christian in Lexington.

 

Private graveside services were held Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Lexington Cemetery.  Rev. Jan Ehrmantraut officiated.  Millward-Broadway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Willie Catherine Shaw Herrell, 85, of Louisville, died Sunday, August 15, 2010, at the Masonic Home in Shelbyville.  She was born in Henry County, daughter of Alexander and Lizzie Clark Shaw.  She had worked as a cafeteria manager at Henry County High School and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by one daughter: Donna Herrell Barnes (Ed), Louisville; one brother: James Russell Shaw (Judy), Buckner; one sister: Rhelda Shaw Yount (Leo), Louisville; four grandchildren: Shelly Crawford (Steve), Lisa Thompson (Parkey), Mia Wilson, Craig Barnes (Stephenie) ; six great-grandchildren: Kayla Thompson, Jordan Cooley, Morgan Thompson, Micah Thompson, Logan Cooley, Colten Barnes, Lucas Armstrong; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Gayle Herrell.

James E. “Jim” Higgins

 

James E. “Jim” Higgins, 71, of Campbellsburg, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the Veterans Hospital in Louisville.  Son of the late James Michael and Gracie and Ann Schamel Higgins, he was a letter carrier for the U. S. Post Office for 20 years.

 

He was a retired U. S. Marine.  He faithfully served for 20 years and was wounded for his country.  He was a member of the VFW and the Henry County DAV.

 

He is survived by his wife: Jean Higgins, Campbellsburg; one son: Eric Stull, Clarksville, TN; five sisters: Ann Lord, Louisville, Katie Willham, Frankfort, Jane Clark, Oregon, Peggy Wills, Shelbyville, and Barbara Rickert, Colorado; one sister-in-law: June Higgins, Louisville; and three grandchildren: Jordan Gates, Garrett Stull and Karsyn Stull.

 

Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, July 24th, at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home.  Rev. Mike Howard, Rev. Don Clayborn and Rev. Harold Clayborn, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Betty J. Holcomb

 

Betty J. Holcomb, of Eminence, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Baptist Northeast Hospital in LaGrange.  Daughter of the late Ada Ethington and Estill Holcomb, Sr., Betty was formerly employed with Southern Molding and Eminence Speaker Corporation.  She was a member of Christ Open Dorr Fellowship Church.

 

She is survived by one son: Morris Allen Powell and his wife, Denise, Pleasureville; dear friend: Betty Ann Cuerto, Campbellsburg; two brothers: Leonard Russell Holcomb, Pleasureville and Everett Earl Holcomb, Eminence; six grandchildren and three great-grandsons.  She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Sister Linda Morgan, Pastor of Christ Open Door Church, officiated, assisted by Bro. Paul Harvey of Crossroads Lighthouse Church.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Iva Allnutt Jackson

 

Iva Allnutt Jackson, 77, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at her residence.  She was a member of the Buffalo Lick Baptist Church, the Christiansburg Homemakers and the Milestone Quilting Club.  She was the daughter of the late James Alfred Allnutt and Melvina Peyton Allnutt.

 

She is survived by her husband: Paul E. Jackson; two daughters: Paula Nave (Sherman), Versailles and Deborah Jackson, Southgate; one sister: Willa Dee Raines, Sarasota, FL; one brother: James Stanley Allnutt, Shelbyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her brother: Claude Carroll Allnutt and her sister, Martha Jane Burkhart.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27th, at Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Bro. Jeff Peed officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Velda Carter Hackett Johns

 

Velda Carter Hackett Johns, 81, of Henderson, formerly of Henry County, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at her home.  She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Temple and was serving as pianist at Calvary Baptist Church in Henderson.  Velda has also been a member of  and organist for the Bethlehem Baptist Church for more than fifty years.  She was retired from the Kentucky Department of personnel.

 

She is survived by her husband of 30 years: Charles E. Johns; two daughters: Karen Hackett Towe and her husband, Dennis, Bowling Green and Lois Hackett Downey and her husband, Michael, Valdosta, GA; three step-daughters: Kay Mulligan and Ellen Redding, both of Henderson and Ann Watson, Greenville, IN; one step-son: Tim Johns, Henderson; sixteen grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Hackett and her parents, Walter and Lora Grigsby Carter.

 

Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11t, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson.  Rev. Michael Eldridge officiated.  Interment was in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson.

Barbara Jones

 

Barbara A. Sharp Jones, 63, of Pleasureville, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.  Daughter of the late Allie and Ethel “Granny” Holmes Sharp, Sr., she retired from Eminence Speaker.  She was a member of the Drennon Christian Church.

 

She is survived by her husband: Bobby Jones, Pleasureville; one daughter: Donna Riley, Drennon; one sister: Betty Eddins and husband, Ronnie, Campbellsburg; three brothers: Allie Sharp, Jr. and wife Shirley, LaGrange, Vernon Sharp and wife Carolyn, and Jerry Sharp and wife, Betty, all of Lockport; and four grandchildren: Markie Pyles and husband, Jasper, Bobbie Tallent and husband, Shane, Melissa Riley, Brandon Riley; and one great-grandchild Kayleigh Tallent.  She was preceded in death by two brothers: Jackie Sharp and Glenn E. Sharp, Sr.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 14th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Bro. Shawn Golden, Pastor of the Campbellsburg Baptist Church, and Br. Corey Beatty, Pastor of the Drennon Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Cerisa Hawkins Jones

 

Cerisa Laine Hawkins Jones, 57, of Pleasureville, died Sunday, September 26, 2010, at the University of Louisville Medical Center.  She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Jo Hawkins.

 

She is survived by her husband: Paul Jones, Pleasureville and one daughter: Cristina Jones, Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 1st, at Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Don Burley officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery.

Sue Teters Jones

 

Sue Teters Jones, 76, of Brandenburg, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Medco Center of Brandenburg.  Mrs. Jones was born in Henry County on March 8, 1934, the daughter of Velvin G. and Mary Ettie Aldridge Teters.

 

She is survived by two children: Cherie Duhaime, Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada and mark Hazelwood, Brandenburg; three grandchildren: Vernon Dowell, Brandenburg, Justin Duhaime, Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada and Casey Hazelwood, Hardinsburg.

 

Graveside services were held at noon Saturday, July 24th, at the Port Royal Cemetery.  Rev. Larry Montgomery officiated.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Dorothea Sparrow Young; one daughter: Jo Brewer (Harvey), Austin; two sons: Louis Young (Cleo), Austin, and Alan Young, Pasadena, CA; one brother: Burnette W. “Bill” Young (Jane). Campbellsburg; one sister: Marjorie Brooks, Shelbyville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild, one brother: Charles Young and one sister: Helen Jones.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 18th, at Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. William Forquer officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.
