All of us have a "brick wall" somewhere in our research! It's that elusive ancestor that just doesn't seem to exist! I will be posting emailed queries sent to me by people who are searching for their "brick wall" ancestors. Please take time to look them over and if you have info that could help these folks, please let them know!

Please Note: When you compose your Brick Wall query, please make sure you include the family connection to Henry Co. Queries sent without listing a Henry Co. connection will not be posted. I apologize for this but I am receiving many queries with no obvious connection to the county. If you are not sure where in KY your ancestor was from, you can post a query here; http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyunknow/ ... Thanks

My grandfather, Richard VEST b 10/6/1882, Henry County, KY was the son of Andrew Jackson VEST and Nancy O'Nan BENNETT.  His father died in 1891 and his mother died in 1883. Richard told his family that he had ridden the Orphan Train and we do believe he did, even though so far no record has been found (and evidence points to his not being adopted out) so he ended up back in Henry County.  He had a guardian, James RODGERS and was listed
in the 1897 School Census for Blackwell in Henry County.  Richard told the family that his sister and brother rode with him.  On the 1880 census for Pleasureville, Henry County, Richard's siblings that were at home are
listed: Isaiah VEST, age 6 and Sarah Christina VEST, age 3. These children would have had to been the ones that rode the train with him. No one knows what happened to them.  Did they ride or did they die?  We
would like to have closure on them since this has been a brick wall for some time.  Can anyone help with this??? My e-mails are: chrisprofitt@insightbb.com or clprofitt@hotmail.com and I will gladly share information. Thanks, Chris Profitt.

Questions: Is there a cheaper way to get a copy of a probate record than renting the LDS film for Henry County? The reference I have is 1803-1824 FHL US/CAN Film 828254, Henry County KY Court Orders 3:1 and begins "At court held 19 Jan 1808, Sarah Stark widow and relict of Joseph Stark......" The children in the record fit the Joseph Stark I'm trying to research, but his wife's name should be Hannah. I've been in touch with some Stark researchers like Gwen Bjorkman and she wondered if someone had copied the record incorrectly, having not seen the original. (Joseph and Hannah Stark had a daughter Anna who married, 19 Jan 1812, Henry Co., Samuel Hayes. His father Samuel may have come directly from Ireland to Henry Co.) Would you advise renting the film or writing to the Henry Co probate Office (if so what address)? Many thanks for any suggestions or help you can share with me, Marti Lynes. malynes@comcast.net

have found nothing prior to his 1879 marriage in Buffalo Park, KS, to Anna GAY (b. 1859,Carter Co., KY). Then he shows up on 1880 AL census. His death certificate states his b/p New Castle, KY, parents b/p unknown.
On several census (1880 and later) he stated his b/p as Iowa & VA and his parents b/p as USA, VA, and Iowa.  His father-in-law was William GAY, son of Samuel GAY; both born in PA, both living in Carter Co., KY 1850 & 1860
Census. Bertram's mother-in-law was Mary Anna ROSS (b. 1828, VA?). My great great grandfather was John "Jack" Neff.  I have never been able to locate his parents.  On two separate censuses he claimed he was born in 1810 in Kentucky.  The nearest possibility we have been able to find so far is
that there was a Daniel Nave listed on the 1820 census for Newcastle, Henry County.  This Daniel Nave had two males in the household between 0- 10 years old.  One male was between 18-26.  One of the younger males
could be our John "Jack" Neff.  Daniel, himself, was listed as being over 45 years old.  Daniel Neff (who may have been the father of our John "Jack" Neff married Mary "Polly" Logan.  Two Logan families also lived in
Newcastle, Henry County Kentucky on the 1820 census.  Jas Logan was head of one of the families and John Logan was head of the other family. These two families living in the same proximity to each at the right time make a strong case.  I am hoping someone in Henry county can look at the records for that area between 1795 and 1820 and see if they locate any documents showing any actions by either of these families and especially anything showing any interactions between the two families. Thanks, Norman Neff, Gene1527@aol.com

Polly Logan 28 Sep 1795 in Franklin County, VA.  Daniel Neff died in Cass County, Indiana.  I have been unable to find any record of Daniel Neff, Polly Logan or John Neff anywhere in Kentucky.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks, Norman E. Neff, Gene1527@aol.com

La Compte

I am trying to find the parents of Frances La Compte who married Amos Jackson in Switzerland county, IN in l817.  Frances and Amos had about 9 children, one of which is my gr-gr-grandmother Sibbi Ann Jackson La Compte.  I find her only in the 1870 Ky census and to find her, I had much difficulty because of the spelling.Violet Toph (188?-1956) of Ripley county, IN a former school teacher and historian was related to this family and list Sibbi is buried at the foot of one of her brothers in Tanglewood Cem. just outside of Versailles, IN.  Sibbi's husband, though I've never found a marriage record, is Horace who I find in a leter census perhaps living with a daughter and her family.  Would sincerely appreciate any hint or
help, Don  Weber, dftague@aol.com

Sanford

Henry County, Nov. 1824 will was probated for Daniel Sanford.  Henry County, KY Will
Records, 1800-1821, pg. 314. Daniel arrived in Bourbon Co. in 1798 and then moved to Henry where he died.  According to KY Biographies of a grandson, Lewis Major Sanford, I think errors have been made by those publishers of the past who simply wrote what the client presented without factual documentation. Please help me. First, Charles Sanford born in Virginia in 6 FEB 1790, was actually Charles born on that date in Dartmouth, MA. Charles' father was Richard.  This Richard was born circa 1764 and died in MA circa 1806. The major discrepancy being the location of birth and death making it improbable that this is the correct Daniel. The correct Daniel would be the Daniel born in Westmoreland, VA.  He had a son named Charles.  He died in Henry Co., KY and his will was probated there, too. I think there is a perponderance of evidence showing that those early bio book publishers were given incorrect information by a family member. If there are still lines to the Sanford family, please clarify this information for me. A descendant of Daniel Sanford of Virginia who died in Henry Co., KY in 1824. Thank you, Brenda Pike, hiptub2@aol.com

LeCompte

Would like to connect with anyone working on the LeCompte family w/its various spellings.  My temporary interest is with Horace LeCompte and his wife Sibbi Ann Jackson. Horace's parents I'm not sure, but Sibbi's parents were Amos Jackson and Frances LeCompte who married in Ripley county, IN in 1817.  I do not know if Horace and Sibbi ever married as I have yet to find it.  The family of Horace and Sibbi LeCompte I have found in only one U.S. Census, and that is the 1870 Henry county, KY
census.  As I remember their children were Caroline, James, Frances Emmaline, Wm. and maybe a Susan.  The name LeCompte is so unusual and must be related to the LeComptes of Le Compte Bottom.  My great grandmother was Caroline Le Compte who married Simeon Tague on 1-4-1874 in Ripley county, IN.  They went to Nebraska in 1879 w/e sons and Simeon's parents.  My grandfather was their 4th son, Walter Rufus Tague. Caroline died 3-5-1880 leaving her 4 sons.  Simeon returned to Indiana and dropped the 4 boys hither and yond.  Would appreciate some light on Horace and Sibbi Ann Jackson LeCompte should anyone out there have any. Lundy / Barton

I am looking for any information on the parents of Polly Lundy.....James Lundy born abt. 1832 VA. and Jemima " Mimie" Barton born abt. 185?.
Here is one of the problems... In the 1880 census Mimie says she was born in Georgia her parents in South Carolina and gives her age as twenty five.  In 1910 while living with my grandparents,  she says she was born in KY so were her parents and gives her age as seventy six, which would mean she was born in 1833. I have been all over the census for Georgia and SC, but can not seem to find her, of course I have no Idea who her parents really are.

I think Mimie and parents might be from Henry County. I found  S.T. Barton living in Henry County alone with Wife Phoebe and daughters Mary Elizabeth, Sally and Mimie born 1858.   Mimie  was not a common name in KY in the 1800's,  the age is about right,  my mothers sisters names were Elizabeth and Sally. As you can see I have a long way to go to straighten this mess out.  I sure could use some help! Monfort / Montfort

I have been researching the ancestors of Israel Monfort/Montfort who was born 1812 in Henry, Co. I have found dozens of postings on the internet that say his father was John Calvin Monfort b. 1788 and mother was Nancy Agnes Mitchell, but there are no sources listed that I can verify this. I have a hand written note passed down through the family from the 1800's stating that his/her (the author of the letter) grandfather (father of
Israel) was named Joseph Monfort and grandmother was ____ Spicer. It's hard to imagine that he/she would mix up their grandparents' name, but so far everything points to John Calvin. I'm looking for any sort of vital
record for Israel or John Calvin to prove or disprove they are related. Thanks to anyone that has any information. Allison Basile, aebasile@comcast.net
