BOUNTY LAND WARRANT

Private in Captain William Walker's Kentucky Militia.  Henry Asbury enlisted 01 Nov 1812, and was discharged 25 Dec 1812.  His numbers were old war invalid file 1630, and O W I C 363, soldier's original 9703, and certificate 7281.

Section 7

The residence of the soldier in 1843 was in Hillborough, Highland County, Ohio.   1851-1855 Highland County, Ohio, 1869 - 1871 in Somerford, Madison County, Ohio.  He applied for pension in Highland County, Ohio 13 Feb 1843 and made declaration that he formerly belonged to the company commanded by Captain Walker of the 3rd regiment of Kentucky Militia commanded by Colonel Miller in the regiment of the United States, that his name was placed on the list of the roll of Kentucky from where he lately removed.  He now resides in Ohio and intends to remain in Ohio.

Samuel L. McCarty made affidavit for the soldier, Henry Asbury, in Jefferson County, Kentucky on 27 Aug 1818 before a J P and stated that he was lieutenant and paymaster in Captain William Walker's Company of the 3rd regiment of Kentucky commanded by Colonel Nicholas Miller, that on or about the 10th of Sep 1812, near Louisville, Kentucky.   Henry Asbury who was a private in the company and regiment aforesaid while in service of the U. S. and in the line of duty was wounded by a rifle, accidentally.  He was wounded in the right ankle and that he was paid monthly pay to the 25th of Dec 1812, at which time he was discharged.  This affidavit was made before John Bell, and Woodrow Pope, the former being a J P of said county and the latter being clerk of the said county.

Section 8

P. Pendell and W. H. Prichards, surgeon, made affidavits in Lexington, Kentucky on 20 Oct 1818 that they had examined the wounds of Henry Asbury and that he had received a gun shot wound in his right leg just above the ankle and they rated his disability as one half.   Their affidavits were made before James C. Rodes, clerk in Fayette County, Kentucky.   Henry Asbury applied for pension in Madison County, Ohio on October 1868 before S. A. Hume, clerk of the court, age 78,  resident of Madison County, Ohio and wishes his pension to be payable there.   Henry Asbury applied for a pension in Madison County, Ohio again on 18 Jan 1869 and made declaration similar as previously stated and stated he was a resident of Somerford, Madison County, Ohio.   Also, John H. Kennedy and David Haskell, residents of Madison County, Ohio made affidavits of acquaintance with the above named soldier and to their belief in his statements.

Henry Asbury applied for increase of pension in Madison County, Ohio on 12 Apr 1870.  He stated that he believes that he is the oldest war pensioner in the United States, that he was pensioned on 11 Feb 1819 and drew pension from 26 Dec 1812.  He asks for return of his old pension and stated that he wished to keep it, as a relic.

Section 9

In reply to his request for an increase of pension the commissioner of pensions wrote that in order to be granted an increase of pensioner he would have to prove that his degree of disability had increased.   Henry Asbury who served in Captain William Walker's Company of the Kentucky militia and whose ratio of disability was rated one half, was inscribed on the pension roll of Kentucky agency to commence on 26 Dec 1812, certificate of pension was issued 11 Feb 1819.
