On July 8 of the year 1831 in Shelby County in the state of Kentucky the affidavit of Captain Benjamin Roberts was given.  The said deponent stated and swore that he said pensioner had served in the capacity of a Lieutenant in his, the deponent's company, in the regiment under the command of Colonel George Slaughter and the deponent also stated that he and the said pensioner had enlisted together.

On August 9 of the year 1832 in Logan County in the state of Kentucky, the said pensioner at the age of 78 years appeared in open court and stated that he had first volunteered to serve in the first company of Minute Men from Culpepper in the state of Virginia in the company under the command of Captain Robert Patton for a tour of six months duration.  He stated that in the fall of the year 1779 he was appointed to serve in the capacity of a Lieutenant in the company under the command of Captain Benjamin Roberts and under the command of Major George Slaughter and in the regiment under the command of Colonel Crockett.  He stated that he had marched from Culpepper County in the state of Virginia to the Falls of the Ohio River.  The said pensioner also stated that he had again volunteered in the year 1780 to serve in the campaign and under the command of Colonel George Rogers Clark and he stated that on that tour he was appointed to serve in the capacity of a Captain and he served for five weeks.  Then in the latter part of the year 1780 the said pensioner became sick and he was sick and was furloughed by his uncle, Colonel George Slaughter, as aforesaid. 

Section 63

On May 4 of the year 1847 in Christian County in the state of Kentucky, the affidavit of John F. Bell was also given.  The said deponent stated and swore that Mrs. Mildred Slaughter, the widow of the said pensioner, had died on August 1 of the year 1842 and he stated that she was truly the widow and relic of Lieutenant James S. Slaughter.

The said pensioner himself, James S. Slaughter, was on the Kentucky Roll of Pensions at the rate of $100.00 per annum and his certificate of pension for that amount was issued on July 15 of the year 1833 and it was then sent to Henry Northup at Louisville in the state of Kentucky.
