RESOURCES FOR YOUR RESEARCH

Appalachian Memories

After years of research, traveling and talking to relatives and acquaintances I have written a book entitled  "Appalachian Memories." It has biographies of Bird Owsley and his eleven sons and Cecil and Sarah Stewart Thomas of Knott County, Kentucky. Bird Owsley was a noted basket maker and craftsman. Birds’ wife, Susan Watkins Owsley, was a midwife in the early to mid 1900's. Greenbury Thomas was one of the first schoolteacher in Knott County and was a survivor of the Trail Of Tears in the 1830’s when he was nine years old.

If you would like a copy of “Appalachian Memories” the cost is $15.95 + $2.00 S&H.

COUNTY COURT RECORDS 1821 – 1835, FLOYD COUNTY , KENTUCKY

Floyd County was created by the Kentucky General Assembly on December 13, 1799 and took effect on June 1, 1800. County Court records from June 1800 through September 1808 were destroyed in a fire which consumed the first courthouse. Floyd County Court Books 1-4 are extant and were partially transcribed by Mr. Charles Wells in his book “Annals of Floyd County, Kentucky 1800-1826”. This transcription begins at the point where Mr. Wells ended and continues through October 1835. This book contains records that cover all or part of Floyd, Knott, Magoffin, Johnson, Morgan and Martin Counties . These records (Including 2 Maps) are a great resource for Historians and Genealogists alike!
