Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. WILLIAM S. TERRY was born in Barren County, Ky., May 16, 1847, in the same house where he now resides. His father, John Alfred Terry, was born June 24, 1804, in Botetourt County, Va., where he grew to manhood, and from whence, at the age of eighteen years, he removed with his mother to Kentucky and located in Barren County, where he died September 8, 1853. He was a son of Stephen Terry, who was born in Scotland. John Alfred Terry married, November 28, 1828, Sally, daughter of Edward and Keziak (Renick) Young. She was born August 17, 1807. To them were born James E., Laura E. (deceased), Sally D. (Douglas), Robert A. (deceased), John L., Powhatan E., Theophilus B., Ellen T. B., David C., William S. and Peter D. Mr. Terry had some assistance in beginning life, but principally by industry and frugality, and in spite of being crippled by a fall from a mule when a young man, he has become the owner of about 120 acres of well improved and productive land.
