Bath County

JAMES DUDLEY DAVIS, a practicing physician of Bethel, Bath County, Ky., was
born in Scott County, Ky., January 3, 1850.  His father, Jonathan Davis, was
born in Clark County, Ky., has followed farming all his life, and now
resides in Scott County; he is a son of Elijah Davis, a native Virginian,
who came to Kentucky at an early date and settled in Clark County,
subsequently moving to Scott County, where he lived and died.  Jonathan
Davis married Miss Jane Laughlin, a daughter of John W. Laughlin, an early
settler in Kentucky from Virginia.  To Jonathan and Jane Davis were born
seven children, three daughters and four sons, viz: Elijah L., Sarah, M.
Ellen, John W., James D., Garrett F. and Carrie B.  Elijah L and M. Ellen
are deceased.  The parents are still living in Scott County.  James Dudley
Davis was brought up on the farm and received his education at the graded
schools in his native county.  In 1878 he commenced the study of medicine
and graduated with high honors from the Kentucky School of Medicine at
Louisville in 1880.  He then practiced his profession at Leesburg, Scott
County, until 1882, at which time he moved to Bethel, Bath County, Ky.,
where he has since been actively engaged in the practice of medicine.  He is
a member of the F.&.A.M. fraternity, is a Democrat in politics, and is a
member of the Christian Church.
