Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Boone Co. ROBERT M. JONES was born in Boone County, Ky., February 20, 1841, and is a son of Oscar F. and Susan (Grant) Jones, also natives of Boone County. Robert M. Jones moving to Covington in 1858, and in 1861 went south with Capt. Maderia's company, and a part of the time was with Morgan's command. In 1865 he returned to Covington, and worked as a clerk with E. Simmons, in a dry goods house, and afterward, in 1868, accepted a position with E. Casey, on Lower Market Street. In 1871 he moved to Big Tunnel, Ky., remained there until March 1887, when he bought a grocery of James W. Miller & Son, on Madison Avenue. January 25, 1869, he married Miss Ella Grant, of Grant's Bend, Ky., daughter of William S. Grant, who was born in Kenton County, in 1807, and Lydia Grant. Our subject's grandparents, on his mother's side were natives of Kentucky; on his father's side, Virginians.
