RICE was born near Union, Boone Co., Ky., January 10, 1826, and is the second of a family of five children, born to Edward and Annie (Utz) Rice. Edward Rice was born in Woodford County, Ky., June 15, 1795, and was a son of Benjamin Rice, who emigrated from Virginia to Kentucky at an early date, settled in Woodford County, and afterward moved to what in now Kenton County, where he lived and died. Edward Rice was a farmer, and followed the same all his life. He was in the war of 1812, and died November 21, 1878. His wife, Annie Utz, was born in Virginia, near Fredericksburg, December 17, 1805; she came to Kentucky with her parents when quite small, and was married about 1819. Columbus T. Rice was brought up on the farm, and received his education at the common schools. He has followed farming all his life. May 14, 1850, he was married to Sallie A. Norman, a daughter of Benjamin and Margaret (Conner) Norman, of Boone County. To this union two children has been born, viz: Benjamin L., born March 2, 1851; Mary A., born November 16, 1858. Mr. Rice is a member of the Baptist Church. Politically he was formerly a Whig, but is now a Democrat.
