History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky, ed. by William Henry Perrin, O. L. Baskin & Co., Chicago, 1882. p. 557. [Bourbon County] [Clintonville Precinct] THOMAS HENRY CLAY, farmer, P. O. Clintonville, is a member of that branch of the Clay family which is descended from Henry Clay, who came from Virginia in early times, when Indians still roamed the trackless wastes of Kentucky, and settled in Bourbon County. His father is "Greybeard" Samuel Clay, so called to distinguish him from several other well known gentlemen of the same name in the County. Our subject was born July 28th, 1840, and was married in July, 1864, to Miss Fanny Conn Williams, daughter of Maj. George W. Williams, who in conjunction with Hon. Garrett Davis, represented Bourbon County in the convention which framed the present Constitution of Kentucky. The couple have four children, viz: Alfred, George W., Thomas H., Jr., and Nannie. Mr. Clay owns 3,000 acres of land and his place is known as "The Heights." He possesses the confidence of his neighbors and is noted for his energy and thrift.
