Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Boyd County Louis L. Kibbe was born October 25, 1840, in Boyd County, Ky., and still resides at Catlettsburg. He is the eldest son of Marcus L. Kibbe, who was born in Carter County, Ky., May 10, 1815, and was a son of Amos Kibbe, a native of New Jersey, who settled in Greenup (now Carter) County, Ky., before the year 1800, and married Mary D'Attey, a descendant of the Huguenots. Marcus L. Kibbe settled near Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Ky., in 1835, and in 1836 married Miss Elizabeth H. Clark, a native of Scotland, and a daughter of John Clark, an early settler of Hocking County, O. Louis L. Kibbe, who was reared a farmer, enlisted September 12, 1862, served twelve months in the Tenth Cavalry, United States Volunteer army, and then entered mercantile business at Catlettsburg. December 23, 1868, he married Miss Elizabeth Williams, a native of Virginia and daughter of Marcus L. Williams; the result of this union was one child, Maggie. In August, 1886, Mr. Kibbe was elected sheriff of Boyd County on the Republican ticket, and is the present incumbent of the office. He is a Freemason, an Odd Fellow, and a member of the G.A.R.
