POWER, a native of Bracken County, Ky., was born in 1834, and is a son of Robert and Nancy (Byer) Power, of English extraction, whose parents settled in Cincinnati about the time of the breaking out of the Revolutionary war. John R. Power was reared in his native county and received his education at Augusta College. He commenced trading in leaf tobacco when about twenty-one years of age, and has been interested in the same ever since. He is unmarried, and is politically a Democrat.
