He was born in Tipton County, Tennessee, on August 11, 1847. After securing what education he could he entered the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1877. The dates of his conversion and baptism and the time and place of his being licensed to preach are unknown. He was ordained by the Post Oak Grove Church in Lamar County, Texas, in June, 1873. This leads us to see that he must have moved to Texas before his twenty-fifth year. Immediately after his ordination he served the church at Honey Grove, Texas, from 1873 to 1881, not including the years 1877 and 1878 when he attended the Seminary. Our record of his pastorates is complete from that time until his resignation of the pastorate of the First Baptist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky, in 1893. His pastorates were as follows: Paris, Texas, 1882-1883; Sulphur Springs, Texas, 1884-1888; Honey Grove, Texas, 1888, Owensboro Kentucky, 1890-1893. In the year 1889 he served as a Missionary Evangelist in Texas. We are inclined to believe from information received that he pastored the church at Vicksburg, Mississippi, from 1893 to about 1900. He was also pastor of the church at Durant, Oklahoma, for a number of years. His death occurred sometime between the years 1915 and 1920. During his pastorate of the First Church in Owensboro he served the Association as Moderator in 1890 and 1891, and also preached the Annual Sermon in 1891.
