HENRY McKINLEY BROWN: H. M. Brown was born at Fordsville, Ky., on 
July 24, 1896, and is the son of Charles W. and Missouri Belle Brown.  
His family moved to Owensboro while he was quite young and he 
attended the public schools of this city.  After graduating from the 
Owensboro High School he felt the call to preach and was licensed by 
the Hall Street Baptist Church on July 28, 1920.  His conversion had 
taken place at the age of 10 and he had been baptized into the 
fellowship of the Third Baptist Church by Dr. W. D. Nowlin in the 
year 1906.
     In preparation for the work of the ministry he attended Bethel 
College at Russellville, Ky., for two years.  At the call of the 
Hopewell Baptist Church he was ordained to the minstry [sic] on 
September 28, 1923, by a councl [sic] composed of Elders J. J. 
Willett, R. W. Mayer, J. A. Bennett, W. W. Williams, B. F. Jenkins, 
and O. W. Yates.  He served the Hopewell Church from July, 1923, to 
July, 1927, and again from July, 1930, to December, 1933 and Newman 
Church from August, 1926 to August, 1927.  At other times he served 
the Dalton Church in Bethel Association and Bethlehem Church in 
Blackford Association.  A throat ailment finally caused him to cease 
the work of the ministry and go into the field of accounting where he 
has served for the past several years in the employ of the Anglo-
American Milling Company in Owensboro.
     He was married to Miss Willia Roberts on May 28, 1917, and to 
this union was born two sons.  The first, Joseph A., died in infancy, 
the second, William M., is now in the U. S. Army Air Corps.  Mrs. 
Brown was an accomplished pianist and a great asset to her husband's 
efforts.  Their membership is now with the Hall Street Church where 
they continue in active participation in the Church's activities.
