Used by permission. [Daviess] BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SWINDLER: This consecrated brother, who went home to glory some few years ago, was born in Kanawha County, Virginia, May 27, 1848. When only a boy he came to Kentucky and settled with his parents in Daviess County. While here he made a profession of faith and was baptized into the fellowship of South Hampton Baptist Church by Elder James M. Dawson, at the age of seventeen. At the age of twenty-two he was married to Miss Ella McLain of Russellville, Ky. To this union was born four sons and two daughters. South Hampton Church licensed him to preach in November, 1867, at the age of nineteen. He attended Bethel College and upon his return was ordained a minister of the Gospel by the Hartford Baptist Church in September, 1874. At about the same time he assumed the care of Bethlehem, in Muhlenberg County. His pastorate from first to last were Bethlehem, 1875-1877; Calhoun, 1875-1881; Station, 1875-1881; Mt. Liberty, 1876-1880; Buck Creek, 1878-1883; Brushy Fork, 1880-1881; Sugar Grove, 1881-1887; South Carrollton, 1882-1884; Greenville, 1883-1885; Bethabara, 1884-1888; Curdsville, 1884-1887; South Hampton, 1885-1387; Walnut Street (Church went to full time in 1889), 1888-1890 At the meeting in 1891, suitable resolutions were offered by Rev. John A. Bennett in regard to the past nineteen years of service in this Association of Bro. Swindler the resolutions were unanimously adopted. Bro. Swindler went to the Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Covington, Ky., after a short pastorate at the Falmouth, Ky., Baptist Church. He later served the churches at Owenton, Carlisle, East Hickman, Union, Petersburg, and Sand Run, all in Kentucky. At the time of his death which occurred on February 5, 1924, he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church at Latonia, Ky. His interment took place at the Highland cemetery near Latonia. During his stay in this Association Bro. Swindler served as assistant clerk from 1881 to 1884. He also preached the annual sermon before this body in the years 1880, 1882, and 1889. His activities in behalf of all the work of the denomination were notable. For several years he was the leading spirit and Moderator of the North Bend Association, serving as Moderator in the years 1895 to 1899 and again in 1901 and 1903.
