Historical Sketches of Kentucky by Lewis Collins, Maysville, KY. and J. A. & U. P. James, Cincinnati, 1847. Reprinted 1968. Fayette County. ROBERT WICKLIFFE, Sen., one of the pioneer lawyers of Fayette, is still living near the city of Lexington, in a green old age. He has represented the county for many years, in both branches of the legislature of Kentucky, and has discharged an active and conspicuous part in all the leading questions that have agitated the State for nearly or quite half a century. When the State was rocked as with an earthquake, by the discussions on relief and new court questions, Mr. Wickliffe was among the most active and efficient champions of the constitutional judiciary. He is universally acknowledged to be one of the ablest land lawyers in the State; and has, by his industry and devotion to his profession, amassed immense wealth.
