Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. J. C. BROWN. One of the most progressive young business men of Grant County is J. C. Brown, an Owen County boy, who has found a permanent abiding place in Grant. Mr. Brown is but 30 years of age, but has accomplished many of those things which go to make up the success of life. He is the son of T. H. Brown and Eliza C. Brown, and was born in Owen County, Kentucky, December 8, 1870. His early life was spent on his father's farm and his education was that which could be acquired at the common schools of the neighborhood. After a brief season as a farmer and for a time in engaging in other occupations in Owen County he came to Grant in the summer of 1898 and purchased the drug store that had lately belonged to W. C. Johnson. For more than a year he conducted it as a first-class up-to-date drug store and then sold out to James A. O'Hara & Co., who are yet in charge of it. Mr. Brown, upon his retirement from the drug business, accepted employment at a good salary from the Cincinnati Leaf Tobacco Warehouse Company. He is now their local agent soliciting shipments and advancing money to the farmers and shippers. November 15, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Scott, one of the most charming young ladies in Williamstown, the daughter of Dr. J. T. Scott. Mr. Brown is one of the leading young business men of Williamstown destined to make his mark in the business world.
