Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. ROBERT LEE CONRAD. One of the most progressive up-to-date farmers in Grant county, and for that matter in northern Kentucky, is Robert Lee Conrad, of near Dry Ridge. He is a son and the youngest child of Jacob Seldon Conrad and Katharine Renaker and was born in Grant county and educated at the Dry Ridge common schools and the Williamstown select High school, under the professorship of Elden C. Crabbe. Mr. Conrad is a vigorous shoot of the old Conrad stock. He started out in the world with no money and an orphan, his father having died when he was quite small. He now owns 300 acres of the best land in the county. Delightful rolling blue grass hills and valleys, every acre of which would be cheap at $100.00 per acre. He devotes most of his time to fine stock raising, and in the sheep industry has long since taken the lead. He has a large flock of royal bred South Downs, and every season sells the choice bucks and ewes for fancy prices to breeders all over this part of the state. He also handles fine cattle, mules and horses, and in season buys and ships to market a goodly number of spring and summer lambs and many carloads of wool. Lee is a hustler and if he keeps on in the next ten years as he has in the last ten will be one of the rich men of the county. Mr. Conrad has never married, but enjoys life just the same. He owns his father's old farm and lives in the old house where he and all of his brothers and sisters were born. Every winter he goes to Florida, and with his mother and step-father spends a few months basking in the sunshine and flowers of the sunny South. He puts in his time hunting and fishing, and has become an expert nimrod and Izaak Walton. In politics he is a Democrat and one of the very pronounced convictions, always ready to assist his part with money or labor. He is liberal with his means and a fine citizen generally. He belongs to the Improved Order of Red Men and always is to the forefront in works of good deeds and matters of general improvement for his people.
