HIRAM ELLISTON, deceased, was born in Grant county October 15, 1828. His parents were of old Virginia stock. He was born and raised on a farm and was recognized as one of the sturdy and frugal yeoman of the county. He was an honest man, a model citizen, kind and indulgent father and a devoted Christian. He joined the Baptist church at old Ten Mile, in Gallatin county, in October 1851. He lived on his farm near Elliston Station until 1881, when he moved to Williamstown. In 1883 he purchased the old Alfred Kendall homestead and resided there the remainder of his life. By hard labor and practice of economy he accumulated an estate valued at $60,000. He was a partner in the firm of R. H. Elliston & Co., one of the prominent business houses of Williamstown. Mr. Elliston died January 23, 1901.
