Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. JOHN McCOY is the eldest son of William McCoy. He came into this world on the 20th day of February, 1881, and is not but a little more than 20 years old, but possesses business qualifications as great as many a man ten years older. There are four children in his father's family, equally divided, two girls and two boys. The father is a farmer, and like him, John was reared on a farm, and early learned the rudiments of farm work. He went to school at the village school at Dry Ridge, and always showed great promise, being studious and quick to learn. After completing the common school course at Dry Ridge, he entered the Verona League Institute and took a course under Miss Nannie Hamilton, graduating there last year. His education is complete, and he is able to take charge of the affairs of any bank or other institution that requires pluck and brains for its management. August 1, 1900, John began work in the People's Bank at Dry Ridge as clerk, under J. N. Lemmon, cashier. Mr. Lemmon is warm in his praise of John, and says he can run the affairs of the bank just as well as he (Mr. Lemmon) can.
