Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. V. S. METCALFE was born in Covington, Kentucky, April 30, 1871, and with his parents moved to Grant County the year following, locating on a farm three miles east of Dry Ridge, where he has since resided. Mr. Metcalfe was united in marriage to Miss Minnie M. Abernathy, daughter of A. C. Abernathy, of the Mt. Zion neighborhood, Jan. 15, 1891. To this union four children have been born--three boys and one girl--Roy Lee, Guy Blaine, Mary Ethel and Paul Abernathy, all of whom are living and lend additional charm to a home filled with sunshine and joy. Mr. Metcalfe is a consistent member of the Dry Ridge Baptist Church, an active member of the order of the Red Men at Dry Ridge. In politics he is and has been an ardent Republican and devoted much time to the welfare of his party in national, state and county affairs. He is numbered among the sturdy yeomen of this section, and as a stock raiser his success has been gratifying indeed. For five years he has ranked high as an auctioneer, and his business in this line has increased so rapidly that it almost requires his undivided attention, which speaks well for his ability to "Cry" sales of personal property and real estate. His services as an auctioneer are in demand all the time and it would not surprise us to one day see his name in the list of the big fellows whose sales run into the thousands.
