Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. S. M. SMITH. The establishment of S. M. Smith's is the only one of the kind in the north end of Grant county. The young and enterprising proprietor is fully conversant with the business, having been interested in different branches, including the building and constructing business for the past seven years. He was born in Frankfort, Ky., in 1876, where he attended the common and high schools until he was eighteen years of age, when he entered into the employ of Tague's planning mills in Frankfort, as bookkeeper and shipping clerk, which position he held until the firm quit business, after which he entered the contracting and building trade, and has built more nice buildings throughout the State of Kentucky than any other man of his age. Later he traveled in Kentucky and Tennessee in the interests of several large lumber concerns. Settling in Crittenden in the fall of 1900, he opened up a yard and has been stocking up with a full line of everything suitable for this section. He may always be found in his office, and with his experience and stock is able to fix up any sort of a building, and our people will do well to see him before making their purchase. He is carrying the very best material and selling at the very lowest market prices. Smith = Frankfort-Franklin-KY TN http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/grant/smith.sm.txt
