Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. DENNIS SULLIVAN. There is not a young man in Grant County more widely known or better like than plain, every day Dennis Sullivan. He was born in Ireland in the County of Cork, September 15, 1862, and was the youngest son of a family of three boys and three girls, born to Dennis and Mary Sullivan. All of the family, excepting one boy and one girl emigrated to the United States, and two of the family live in Grant County, Mrs. Cornelius Daily, of Blanchett, being a sister to Mr. Sullivan. Dennis came direct from Ireland to Grant County in 1873, and at first located on a farm and attended the Mount Zion common school. Later he moved to Williamstown and engaged in the marble business, with John Dunn as solicitor, agent, collector, etc., and remains in that business and at the same place after nearly 18 years. He has sold monuments all over this part of Kentucky and has been very successful in his line of work. November 26, 1889, he was united in marriage to Martha Clay, the eldest daughter of D. S. Clay. Two children have blessed this union. Dennis is Catholic in belief, and it was largely through his efforts that the Catholic Church at Williamstown was constructed. He is a strong Democrat and has a host of friends, all of whom are pleased to notice his steady advance in fortune.
