COLTHARP was born September 29, 1834, in Humphreys County, Tenn., and in 1843 came to Graves County, Ky., where he has since resided. His father, Samuel Coltharp, of Tennessee, was born in 1797, and died in 1839; and his mother, Martha Griffith, of North Carolina, was born in 1809, and died in 1851. Their offspring are: James N., William J., Samuel F., Enoch and subject. Mr. Coltharp's educational advantages were limited, but he has greatly improved himself by reading. He was married November 26, 1857, to Miss Mary E., daughter of James and Caroline (Yates) McNeely, of Graves County, and this union has been blessed with the following named children: James O., Samuel E., Callie, Minnie (deceased), Mattie and Serena. Subject is a farmer, owning 225 acres of choice land, highly cultivated. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and in politics a Democrat.
