JONES was born August 27, in 1829, in Carroll County, Tenn., where he grew to manhood and resided until 1873, when he came to Graves County, Ky., his present place of residence. His father, Etheldred Jones, a native of Wake County, N.C., died in 1841, at the age of forty-three years; he was the son of William Jones, a revolutionary soldier. Subject's mother was Winifred Woodard, of North Carolina. To herself and husband were born William, James, Maria (Green), Laura (McAdow), Cornelia A. (Sneed), subject, Theophilus, Julia A. (married first to Rose and then to King), and Emily (Thompson). Subject was married January 7, 1855, to Miss Amanda, daughter of James B. and Patsey (Ensley) Wright, of Henry County, Tenn., and to them were born Charles Y., James H., Sarah A. (Shelby), Martha A. (Highfield), Robert F., Willie A. and Edwin. Mr. Jones is a farmer, having 140 acres of good land, in a fine state of cultivation. Having a limited education himself, and realizing the advantages of learning, he is endeavoring to furnish his children with substantial reading matter for their mutual advancement. He is a Free Mason, and an accepted member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
