Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, Kniffin 1st ed., 1885 Reprinted 1972 by Kentucky Reprint Co., Murray, KY. Graves Co. T.J. JONES, of Graves County, is a native of Dickson County, Tenn., in which State his grandfather settled at an early day, being one of the first white men to locate in that section. Our subject's father, John Jones, was born in June, 1784, gained considerable distinction as a soldier in the war of 1812, rose to a high degree in the Masonic order, and died in November, 1832. The mother of our subject, Jennie (James) Jones, was born September 9, 1788, and died in March, 1856. Like the majority of youth in a pioneer community, T.J. Jones enjoyed but few educational advantages; yet he possessed good natural ability, which enabled him, as he grew up, to comprehend surrounding circumstances. He was married July 24, 1833, to Minerva, daughter of Daniel Underhill, and to this union were born ten children, eight of whom are living. On the 20th of March, 1850, he came to Kentucky and one year later settled on the large farm which has since been his home. May 31, 1862, Mrs. Minerva Jones departed this life, and in 1867, Mr. Jones married Mrs. F.O. Lovelace, from whom he separated. On the 5th of December, 1878, Mr. Jones espoused Mrs. S.F. Irvin, daughter of Thomas W. Pitt, of Virginia, a relative of Sir William Pitt, of England. Among other offices, Mr. Jones has filled those of constable, revenue collector, deputy sheriff and high sheriff, and in 1871 was elected to represent Graves County in the lower house of the legislature, which he served until 1873.
