"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 374. Used by permission. [Hancock] CLEMENT JOSHUA BRUNER: "Uncle Josh" Bruner, as he is affectionately known, was born on a farm near Hawesville, Ky., on December 29, 1866, and is the son of Rev. R. T. Bruner and Rebecca L. Bruner. His school advantages were rather poor in his early days and in his later days he attended three five months' terms in a private school and one term in the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville. His conversion took place in the fall of 1889 and he was baptized into the fellowship of the Pellville Baptist Church by his father. This same Church licensed him to preach in 1895, and on February 20, 1896, he was ordained by Elders J. S. Coleman, J. T. Barrow, R. T. Bruner, J. N. Jarnagin, W. H. Morton, H. V. Bruner, C. B. Coleman, and C. M. Corley. In his active ministry he has served the following Churches: Oak Grove and Poplar Grove in Blackford Association; Old Buck Creek, Richland, Curdsville, Delaware Creek, Yelvington, and Friendship in Daviess County Association; Woodward's Valley in Ohio County Association; Bethel, Hebbardsville, Cash Creek and Grave Creek in Ohio Valley Association; Athens, Ebenezer, Beulah, Bethlehem, Bronson, Otter Creek, and Pisgah in the state of Florida. He has been inactive for some time because of his advanced age. His home at present is in Pellville, Hancock County, Kentucky. From the year 1894 to 1897 he served as Moderator of the Blackford Association. His marriage to Miss Georgia Shaffer, the daughter of Thomas T. Shaffer, took place on November 1, 1899. No children were born to this union. The sadness caused by her death, in 1942, has left him a broken-hearted man of almost eighty years. His ministerial life and activities in the cause of the Lord have been a blessing to countless numbers who rise up and call him blessed.
