Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 2nd ed., 1885, Hancock Co. R. UNSEL, Hancock County, was born in Nelson County, Ky., near Bardstown, August 8, 1851, and is the son of William and Mary (Davis) Unsel. The father was born in Nelson County about 1820 and died in Meade County in 1866. He was a farmer by occupation, and a member of the Baptist Church. The mother was also a native of Nelson County, and died there in 1856. Subject is the second of a family of six children, of whom four are now living: D. C., Raish, Napoleon and Charles. Subject received his education in Meade County. He began life for himself at thirteen years of age, and worked around for different farmers in Daviess County. For five years he was foreman in a tobacco stemmery at Owensboro. In February, 1884, he settled in Hancock County, and in connection with D. C. Wright is farming a tract of land of 150 acres.
