Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. EDWARD T. IRWIN was born in Louisville, Ky., October 24, 1852, the youngest of a family of three children born to Joseph and Mary (Riley) Irwin, natives of Pennsylvania and Indiana. He was reared and educated in Louisville, and about 1870 commenced the study of medicine with Dr. A. B. Cook, of Louisville, and graduated from the Kentucky School of Medicine at Louisville in 1876. After that he practiced medicine a short time in Louisville, but later abandoned the profession. He was then appointed constable of Louisville under Dick Burk, and served about two years; then followed railroading for some time, and in 1885 moved to Henry County, purchased his present farm of 170 acres, three miles from LaGrange on the L. C. & L. Railroad, called the "Cedars" and turned his attention to agricultural pursuits and stock growing. February 19, 1880, he was united in marriage with Dora Oliver, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and two children have been born to them: Stephen E. and Edward. Mr. Irwin is a member of the K. of H.
