His father was born in Virginia, immigrated to Kentucky in an early day, and settled in Henry County. In 1838 he moved to Fulton County, Ky., and was engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death. When J. T. Shaw was about the age of twenty-one he returned to Henry County, where he has since resided, except two years he spent in Indiana. He owns 178 acres of fine land near New Castle, and has always been engaged in farming and stock raising. He also dealt in tobacco at one time. He was married March 12, 1851, to Miss Charlotte Carr, of Henry County, daughter of William and Sophia Carr. Four children blessed their union, two now living: Mildred, born June 24, 1858, and George D., born September 5, 1860.
