Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. F. M. SHELTON, one of Henry County's prominent fine stock breeders, was born in Henry County, Ky., July 20, 1834, a son of Nat and Ann (Ross) Shelton. His father was born in Scott County, Ky., and was a son of David who was born in Culpeper County, Va. He is a son of Thomas, who was born in Scotland. Our subject's mother was a daughter of Zack Ross, of New York, who was a Revolutionary soldier. Our subject lived in Franklin County for several years and was deputy sheriff for two years. He also taught school for about one year. He was married in March, 1866, to Lucy Gaines, of Franklin County, daughter of Anderson Gaines, of Franklin County. Four children blessed their union: Salin, Lee F., Mary W. and John F. M. Our subject owns 150 acres of fine land near New Castle. He is now making a specialty of fine stock, and among his blooded horses is "Bay Star," a beautiful bay, star in slip, one white foot, black mane and tail, sixteen hands high, and is three years old.
