SMITH was born in Henry County, Ky., August 28, 1849, the first of a family of ten children born to Hon. Alexander B. and Susan E. Smith, of Henry County. He was reared on the farm, and has devoted his attention to agricultural pursuits since boyhood. He settled where he now resides in 1873, and has 367 acres of valuable land. February 15, 1871, he married Virginia A. Vance, a daughter of Robert W. and Virginia R. Vance, of Henry County. To this union were born five children--three daughters and two sons: William B., Roy, Susan V., May Vance and Katie B., the latter two being deceased.
