Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. FAYETTE BROOKS was born March 24, 1854. He is the fourth son of J. A. and Elizabeth (Stanley) Brooks, and was born in Fayette County, but reared on a farm in Jessamine County. He was married, November 13, 1878, to Miss Annie Fain, of Jessamine County, daughter of Larkin and Zorada (Kersey) Fain. Her father was born in Jessamine County, August 9, 1809, and was a farmer and stock raiser. He was constable for fourteen years, was a justice of the peace ten years, and was deputy sheriff under Andrew McCampbell during the war. He was also elected to the Legislature in 1854 by the Democratic party. He was a Master Mason, and had been Worshipful Master four terms. He also belonged to the Ion Lodge, No. 301, Little Hickman, and died October 5, 1875. Her mother, Zorada, was born in Garrard County, Ky., August 22, 1815, and is still living. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks have had six children born to them, four living: John L., October 8, 1879; Alphie, March 21, 1882; Herbert, March 14, 1884; and an infant, November 29, 1886. They are members of the Methodist Church South. He is a Master Mason, and at present Worshipful Master of Ion Lodge, No. 301. He owns eighty-five acres of land in Sulphur Well District, seven miles south of Nicholasville, where he is engaged in farming and raising stock, making a specialty of mules. His father, John A. Brooks, was born in Pittsylvania County, Va., the eldest son of Thomas and Nancy (Covington) Brooks. Fayette's paternal grandfather was born in Caswell County, N. C.; was a farmer until 1860. He then went to the war, and has never since been heard of. Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks was born in Virginia, the daughter of L. W. and Tabitha (Walters) Stanley.
