JOHN CARR, born in Galway County, Ireland, June 15, 1834, is the youngest son of Patrick and Mary (Martin) Carr. He left Ireland for America by himself, was six weeks crossing the ocean, landed at New York, went to work on a farm in Madison County, worked about six months, then went to Clermont County, Ohio, and worked on a farm until September, 1861, when he enlisted in the Fourth Ohio Cavalry, Company B, serving until July 15, 1865. He held the offices of corporal and sergeant. He was married in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 11, 1865, to Josephine Boland, a daughter of John and Mary (Carr) Boland, natives of that city. To this union there have been born four children: Bettie, February 8, 1869; Annie D., August 8, 1871; Nellie G., February 26, 1874; and John M., August 6, 1876. Soon after he married he was employed by the Adams Express Company, and given charge of the wagon that ran on the Danville and Nicholasville Turnpike, and remained with the company for thirteen years. He bought the farm, on which he now lives, in Sulphur Well District. Mr. and Mrs. Carr and all the children belong to the Catholic Church. Mr. Carr is a Republican.
